Ophelia couldnât remember a time that she had been this happy, especially in the last few months. Her favorite holiday was finally here and the Christmas spirit was alive and well inside her. Things were going pretty well with her parents, she and Ellie hadnât really ever been closer and her and Callum finally seemed to be back on track. She even had a few friends around town. All and all it seemed like she was ready to start the New Year in a good place.
The holiday lighting was her favorite day of the season. For as long as she could remember she would head into the center of town to see the light displays and the tree. Even with all the darkness in Baberton, things still got light around Christmas town. Businesses all around town would fix up their window displays and it all culminated with the lighting at night. She hoped her sister and Callum would make it. She really wanted them to meet.
Just like the past few years, Ophelia volunteered to help set up the lights and while she wasnât the best on a ladder, her artistic eye seemed to be greatly appreciated by the other volunteers. Besides, everyone was always in such a good mood and people brought hot chocolate and biscuits. It was just a fun time.Â
Ophelia was on the roof of one of strips of stores when she received the text. She had been receiving more and more from this âaâ person and she was starting to wonder if she should mention them to Callum, She frowned slightly at the message but tried not to let it ruin her mood. She was determined to have her happy ending, especially today.
Hearing footsteps behind her, she didnât think too much of it. People had been on and off the roof all day, bringing new strands of lights and snacks and such. As she knelt down to grab another bundle of lights, she chuckled softly to herself, no matter how much you try to keep them neat, they always seemed to tangle. That was when she felt the hand on her shoulder.
The hand gripped her hard and she started to panic but there was no time for her to scream as a strand of lights was wrapped around her throat and she started to choke. Her gloved hands provided little relief as she tried to claw at her attacker and she could feel things starting to get fuzzy.Â
She couldnât be sure of what was happening next, it all seemed to happen very quickly but it felt like someone was tying her up, almost like a noose around her neck. Somewhere in the back of her mind it seemed like people were counting down but she never got to hear âoneâ.
As her body was thrown over the side of the building, swinging from the momentum, she saw the lights come on. Her last thought before she faded to black was how pretty the lights truly were.
âOh really? Youâll show me?â She asked, toying with him and hoping she was at least slightly seductive. She kissed him back and followed him. âShould we keep it simple and get a pizza?â
Callum smirked. âYes- I will show you.â He said, still leading her back through the forest. âI vote we worry about food later.â He said, giving her hand a light squeeze.
âWhy is there something else you were thinking that we should do?â She teased, giving him a look. She got a slight chill as he moved his hand down her back. âGood.â
âI guess youâll see when we get back.â He teased back, taking her by the hand. âCâmonâŠâ He muttered, kissing her once more under his set up before leading her back out of the forest.

âWhat do you have planned for the rest of the evening?â Ophelia asked, running her fingers down his arm. âAre you mine all night?â
âThis was kind of it-â He admitted, looking at her with a small smile. âBut yeah- Iâm yours all night⊠Why?â He asked, his smile shifting to a smirk.
âNo, itâs not a problem.â Ophelia smiled, giving him another kiss. âI donât forsee myself getting tired of it anytime soon. Donât worry.â
Callum smiled brightly when she kissed him. âGood- Because as long as you put up with me, youâll be getting surprise dates.â
Ophelia nodded, her eyes sparkling from all the lights and her happiness. âI donât think Iâll ever be able to thank you for this.â She admitted, hugging him tightly.
Callum laughed. âYou donât have too- Youâre my girlfriend⊠This is just another date night. One of the many we get to have.â
Ophelia nodded, her eyes sparkling from all the lights and her happiness. "I don't think I'll ever be able to thank you for this." She admitted, hugging him tightly.
Ophelia laughed again, shaking her head. It was nice to just feel relaxed for once. She felt like it had been so long since she just let herself have fun. There had been so many thoughts swimming around her head the past few months. âYouâre amazing.â
Callum smiled, taking this pause to kiss her softly. âI love you so much, Ophelia.â He muttered against he lips.
âBaby, youâre still a dork. Itâs just now youâre my dork.â Ophelia giggled, looking up at the lights as they danced. âThis is pretty magical.â
âYouâre damn right I am.â He grinned, honestly he couldnât be happier in this moment being here with her. âI spent most of last night planning it.â He admitted.
Ophelia laughed again, shaking her head. It was nice to just feel relaxed for once. She felt like it had been so long since she just let herself have fun. There had been so many thoughts swimming around her head the past few months. "You're amazing."
âIf only we could sing, we could duet.â She teased, softly swaying to the music before taking his hands and dancing with him. âItâs a shame we never went to any dances together in school.â
âWe didnât talk when we were in school.â He pointed out, wrapping an arm around her waist and dancing with her.Â
