Everything is terrifying, but humans are so strong.Â
Societies at my university are doing food bank drives. Italians are singing on their balconies and cheering health workers that go by. My university originally wasnât going to close so lecturers took matters into their own hands and cancelled their classes, and now the university IS closing. When the government response isnât strong enough, people are cancelling mass gatherings themselves and isolating to limit the spread. One of my friends is streaming to her self-isolating friends. My mum is going back to work tomorrow in an NHS reception. The Australian Grand Prix got cancelled and now 10,000+ people are watching an esports game version of the race on Twitch and making memes about it. All over the world, people are trying to cheer each other up.
My biggest problem with apocalypse movies, with zombie tv shows, has always been the way it portrays a world post-disaster. When humans were living in caves and hunting for survival, they drew art on the walls and told stories that were passed down in oral tradition. When London closed for the plagues, theater troupes would go around the country performing for the smaller villages instead. The human drive to create, to entertain, to adventure, to see and do new things, has always been and will always be unmoved by a crisis.Â
So yes people are panic buying, yes employers and governments are being selfish and cruel. But more than ever this has highlighted that, that is not what humans are. Itâs something weâre pushed to be by this society, actual cruelty is an outlier.
Iâve been clinically depressed for a long time, so it feels bizarre to say: I love humans. I am overflowing with how much I really, truly, love us. Humans are silly, tender, hopeful, and social creatures. Even something as small as a long train journey, delayed and late at night, is enough for humans to take up solidarity. No matter what happens, what state the world is in, what alterations we have to make to our lives, we will never escape being recognizably, inherently human. Thank god.Â
So many idiots have masters degrees maybe I could be the next
My adaptation of the God of Arepo short story, which was originally up at ShortBox Comics Fair for charity. You can get a copy of the DRM-free ebook here for free - and I'd encourage you to donate to Mighty Writers or The Ministry of Stories in exchange.
Again it's an honour to be drawing one of my favourite short stories ever. Thank you so much for the original authors for creating this story; and for everyone who bought a copy and donated to the above non-profits.
the stars and the universe love you

Okay Walter White was actually pretty funny as a character bc he was so toxic that seasoned drug lords were like I cannot work w this man I have to put my mental health first

I see a lot of talk about how neurodivergence evolved and stayed in the gene pool because it was somehow âusefulâ to our ancient ancestors. While I donât necessarily disagree with this theory, I would like to propose an alternative. A theory that we already have physical evidence for. Humans just love each other and care for each other. Donât you think that a species that cared for itâs people while they recovered from broken bones, or nursed their elderly well beyond their âusefulnessâ would leave a member out because they didnât make eye contact, or couldnât stay focused on a particular task, or whatever other trait you associate with neurodivergence? I really donât.
Sure, maybe it was useful to have someone around who didnât mind making arrowheads all day, or who knew absolutely everything about all of the local flora and fauna, or who keyed in on every little distraction. At the end of the day, though, these people werenât kept around because they were useful, they were cared for because they were loved.
i would make an excellent goon. iâd be like âon it bossâ and then iâd fuck it up instantly.
More âwtf are humans, please leave the rest of us beâ stuff:
Human reactions to fear!
No, Iâm not talking about screaming or freezing in one spot and pissing yourself. Iâm talking about the weirder, more specific-to-only-humans fear reactions.
Like singing.
Idk how many of you have watched people play horror video games, but a surprising amount of people start narrating whatâs going on in a sing-song voice.
Imagine being an alien, walking in a horrific, dark tunnel with these weird gangly creatures, youâre all scared out of your wits and then one of them starts fucking singing.
In a dark cave. While everyoneâs terrified.
â ⍠~We are all gonna fucking die, this is terrible and I wanna go hooooome~ ⏠â
Maybe we canât become one but.. I will always be here to hold your hand

Shoutout to students who specifically don't take online classes because they can't focus outside of a classroom environment but now have to take their classes online anyways and are seriously strugglingđ
