Hello there, I am a 23 year old that is interested media formats that were prevalent before and around the time that I was born. I am using this blog as a means for me to share what I learn.

A close up image of a Laserdisc in the Constant Angular Velocity format. A CAV laserdisc can hold up to 54,000 still images or frames (approx. 30mins of video) per side. What is so amazing about the CAV format is that it allows one to see the entirety of the analog video signal. Each block is a single scan line with the horizontal blanking interval being the gaps in-between them. This uniform pattern appears so clearly due to the fact that a CAV laserdisc holds one frame of video per revolution.

Differences in the phosphor triads of a Magnavox CRT color Television (top) and a Sony Trinitron (bottom). The Trinitron perfectly shows how the phosphors are not actually pixels from them being completely unobstructed in the Y-axis. The Phosphors are what enabled analog television sets to produce a color image, they are what the red, green, and blue electron beams are able to hit producing a color image on the screen.

A wonderful example of a lens reading the “Pits” and “Lands” of an optical disc. The pits will move the beam away from the light sensor. These pits are what create a signal by constantly changing the amount of light that the sensors will recieve
