hello! ya girl jess here, speaking on behalf of the admin team. iâm guessing this rp has slid off of most peopleâs radars since its thriving run in the summertime and â admittedly less successful, but still pretty rad â revamp in mid september as thescenehq. so, let me refresh your memory:
WITHTHEBANDHQ (later THESCENEHQ) started life as the idea of my friends bibi, corrie & i. we brainstormed a little on google docs for a little while. why am i telling you this & showing you proof? because i want anyone and everyone who reads this to realize that we started off with no idea what we were doing. maybe thatâs because we had nothing to take inspiration from. nothing to pluck ideas from and pass them off as our own. because as far as we are aware, withthebandhq was the first rp of its kind.Â
the small & humble idea quickly grew into a reality due to just how freakinâ pumped we were over it! we set out with a basic premise â appless, oc, set in LA and based around the concept of new, underground musicians on their road to fame â but included some unique aspects we hadnât really seen in other rps before: each band had set spots for people to apply for, each band had a concept and its own âinfluencesâ with youtube links so people could get a feel for what each band was about, etc. the aspect of competition was a prominent theme within the rp as we created âbandslamâ: an online music blog that talks trash on the musicians, who have to grin and bear it to ensure their inclusion in the annual bandslam battle of the bands.
if all of this sounds familiar then great! you might have been a part of our little group in the past, or you might have seen us around. but thereâs also the possibility youâve come across @undrgrndrp.Â
while withthebandhq closed on august 31st, and its revamp thescenehq closed on october 8th, undrgrndrp just hit the tags on october 21st. thatâs why weâre posting this sooner than later, just to make yâall aware of this information as soon as possible. not to deter you from joining it, not to try to influence you to send hate. just to provide you with some info we found to be pretty interesting.Â
undrgrndrp has all of the aspects we felt were unique to wtb / tshq. rival bands with set spots to apply for, with each of the bandsâ info written out in basically the exact same format. the same premise of competition and fighting for the top spot / to âmake itâ as musicians. there are a couple of differences, such as the fact that their rp is set in a small town as opposed to LA, and they are not an appless group. but for us, thereâs not enough setting this apart from our roleplay that makes it seem like anything less than a copy. undrgrndrp deny theyâve taken any inspiration from other rps, but we think differently.
it doesnât matter whether our group is closed or not. what matters is that my friends and i put a lot of time and effort into making something unique and exciting for the rpc to enjoy and we arenât being credited for coming up with the idea. what if we wanted to bring the group back someday, when we collectively have more time to admin an rp? would we have to deal with people thinking we were the copycats?
make your own decision. itâs up to you. do what you will with this info. but i have one piece of advice: know that some rps arenât always as âoriginalâ as they try to convince you they are.
