You wake with a groan, body screaming in protest as you drag yourself from sleep. You crack your eyes open, taking in your surroundings through the exhaustion weighing down every sore muscle in your body.
Youâre home. Good. Thatâs good.
You feel bruises. Newly stitched cuts. Your head aches like it recently came in contact with concrete. Or a fucking sledgehammer.
Bad. Well, not great, but manageable. Youâve felt worse before. Woken up in much worse places in much worse conditions. Comes with the job.
And finally, you feel a warm arm beneath your head. A familiar chest against your cheek. Calloused fingers skating lovingly over your jaw.
âAdrian.â You mumble, a quiet acknowledgement of his presence and a way to alert him to your consciousness. He tenses, like heâs nervous, and oddly enough remains quiet even as he wraps his other arm around you and pulls you closer to him. You bury your face in his chest, squeezing your eyes shut with another miserable noise. âI just had the weirdest dream ever.â
The feeling of something offâŚthatâs probably just a remnant from said dream. Still, he would usually be rolling on top of you by now, always careful of injuries but always trying to be as close to you as possible. Heâd be peppering you with kisses and questions, or even getting almost immediately distracted and talking about everything from ideas about what the dream could mean (before heâs even heard it) to the fact that he saw a bird pick up a squirrel outside of your window while you slept.
âYou okay?â You find yourself asking, beginning to pull back to look up at him. He doesnât let you, though the movement isnât aggressive in any way. He just pulls you carefully but firmly closer, warm lips trailing gently from your temple to your ear like heâs trying to cherish the contact. A hand slides over your back, so strangely familiar but lacking its usual level of energy. Adrianâs hands always wander, always searching for more contact like he canât figure out how to be still unless heâs committing some lethal act. His touch never really stays in one place this long.
âMhm. Iâm okay.â He hums, pressing another sweet kiss to the skin beneath your ear. And that odd feeling of something off remains. His voice is soâŚcalm. So soft and sweet as his lips brush over your earlobe. As his fingers trace again over your jaw. âWhat did you dream about?â
âI wasâŚâ Youâre so confused, so thrown off-kilter by his strange mannerisms - well, one could call them very normal mannerisms for a boyfriend, but not for him - that it takes you a moment to start putting your thoughts together. âI was at Chrisâs. Followed him through a doorâŚâ
-
âChris? What the hell is this? Why are you-â
Chris whirls around, startled and maybe just a little panicked when he sees you standing behind him, your eyes already scanning the massive room. So heâs been sneaking through some portal and into a mansion? Why?
âHow did youâŚâ he trails off, shakes his head like heâs trying to figure out exactly what to do. Rewriting plans and searching for an explanation now that heâs been caught. âWhy the fuck did you follow me?â
You raise your hands, defensive and a little peeved at his hostile tone. âYouâve been acting weird. Adrianâs worried, and you know how he gets.â Heâs at work now, probably annoying the shit out of his coworkers with his stress. You came to confront Chris and maybe find some answers before your boyfriend gave himself a migraine wondering if his best friend suddenly hates him. Or worse, replaced him somehow. âPlus, you werenât exactly secretive when you walked in here. Or alert. I think I could have been wearing squeaky clown shoes and you wouldnât have noticed me.â Your eyes scan the room again, and he grumbles something about nosiness and being left the fuck alone before he pulls you the rest of the way through the door, closing it behind you. âWhere are we?â
âIâll show you. JustâŚjust donât tell anyone. And stay quiet, okay?â
You make a gesture like youâre zipping your lips shut, and follow him deeper into the house.
-
Your eyes open.
The memory of the dream is vivid. A little too vivid.
âAdrian?â You ask, confusion beginning to lace through your tone. His hand moves to your hair, fingers carding through the strands as he shushes you gently, like heâs trying not to frighten you. Like heâs worried youâre about to bolt.
âSâokay. Just a dream. Iâm here.â
His tone is too soft. Too gentle.
You start to pull back, but the fingers tighten gently in your hair, and before you can spare a second thought his mouth is on yours.
Kissing you at random times is not unlike Adrian. The possessive grip on your hair, the way his other hand moves to wrap more tightly around your waist, those things arenât unlike Adrian either.
But thereâs something about the way heâs kissing you - slow and hungry like heâs trying to relearn the way you taste. Like heâs holding you to him - preparing to keep you from running away. ThatâsâŚdifferent.
You respond instinctively, because itâs Adrian. If somethingâs wrong, off in any sort of way, it will always be your first instinct to comfort him. To assure him that youâre there. Youâre not going anywhere, and youâll fix whatever might be wrong. Together. Always.
You kiss him back. Match his possessive grip with your own. Your hand moves up to his hair, and you have a brief moment to wonder if itâsâŚshorter than it was earlier today, before heâs making a hungry noise and rolling on top of you.
His hand slides up from your waist, beneath your shirt, fingers brushing over the skin of your stomach as he deepens the kiss, blunt teeth scraping against your lips only to be soothed by his tongue in a movement so practiced and familiar that the doubt in your mind begins to fray at the edges.
And, despite how increasingly difficult itâs becoming to think when heâs kissing you like this, memories begin to trickle back.
-
âDude, do you see what I mean? Best. Dimension. Ever.â Another group of people wave at Chris as you walk beside him, some screaming with awe and excitement. He waves back, grinning from ear to ear and looking at you like you might match his joyous expression. You frown instead, wary gaze roaming over the utopian-esque streets.
âSomethingâs weird, here.â
âYeah. Itâs fucking better. Everything doesnât suck here.â He says it like itâs obvious. Your frown deepens.
âI wouldnât call this-â you gesture to his outfit, the stupid patterned shirt straining over his chest like he bought it a size too small just to show off his muscles, âan improvement. You look like a grade A douche.â
He frowns down at his outfit, opening his mouth like heâs going to defend it.
âBesides, everything doesnât suck back home. Weâre justâŚall in a rut, I think.â
âOh yeah? You and Adrian really seem like youâre in a rut.â
âHey, weâre just as pissed by the lack ofâŚgratitude, I guess, as everyone else.â
âIf you get it, then you can see why this place is so much-â
The explosion knocks you off of your feet.
-
It wasnât a dream. Itâs a memory. That explosion. Trying to orient yourself enough to help Chris in the ensuing fight.
You remember that. Remember getting knocked down. Hitting your head on the concrete hard enough to make you see stars.
So how the fuck are you home now? How are you lying in bed with Adrian on top of you, kissing you like heâs fucking drowning with his hands sliding over your skin and his fingers tangled in your hair to angle your head so he can kiss you even harder?
Your fingers curl against his back, nails digging into what feels like a tight t-shirt. Youâve never seen him wear anything like that before. Heâs always in baggy (and admittedly dorky) clothes that do wonders to hide his impressive physique - to be âextra special carefulâ to hide his identity.
Think. Think. Think.
-
Chris is fighting. Youâre on the ground. People are screaming. Your head is still spinning. You just need to get your bearings, and then you can get up to help. To keep fighting. To keep helping.
The man above you prepares to deliver a blow, and you manage to knock your foot into his side hard enough to send him sprawling. The movement makes one of the fresh injuries on your side scream in protest. You groan. Your head is killing you. Your vision is swimming.
And then youâre being lifted. Dragged away. At first, youâre pretty sure itâs Chris. But you just saw him run up the stairs, so howâŚ
You fight for consciousness, head spinning as you look up to meet the eyes of the man holding you.
âAdrian?â Your voice sounds distant to your own ears.
And then you black out.
-
âAdrian.â Youâre breathless now, from shock and dawning realizations and the feeling of his mouth still moving hungrily against your own.
âYes.â It comes out as a breath against your skin, his lips trailing down over your jaw to leave searing kisses along the line of your throat. The word isnât an answer, necessarily. It sounds a lot more like a plea to say his name again.
His hand comes down, sliding lower so he can hook your thigh over his waist. He bites down into the hollow of your throat hard enough to make you gasp, mind swimming until-
Until itâs not.
This isnât Adrian.
You push your knee down, only to bring it back up to slam into his side. He makes a noise of surprise, and you use the distraction to smash your elbow down against his shoulder. You roll to the side, giving yourself room to bring your knee up again, knocking him over the side of the bed and onto the floor.
You roll off to the other side, and you settle your feet on the floor just quickly enough to watch him jump back up with an almost inhuman grace. Your Adrian has that, too, despite his usual awkwardness. The trained instincts of a killer.
And there he is.
His shirt is tight, like you thought. His hair is shorter, too. Not by much, but enough that there isnât the usual shagginess to his curls. Heâs not wearing his glasses.Â
Most unnerving of all is that heâs not speaking. Not filling the silence with borderline nonsense or even fixing you with that goofy and almost manic grin of his. His eyes are dark, but sharp as they look at you like heâs fighting the urge to leap over the bed and kiss you again. You watch as his tongue peeks out from between his lips, like he can still taste you on them. His gaze falls to your mouth.
âStay back, doppleganger.â You threaten, raising your hands in an imitation of a cross like youâre warding off a vampire.
He backs up, hands raised in surrender, and watches you.
âIf the next words out of your mouth are âthe power of Christ compels youâ-â
âWho the fuck are you?â
He raises an eyebrow, hands still raised. âYou know that already.â
âDo I?â
âBaby, sweetheart, let me explain.â
Adrian Chase doesnât call you sweetheart. He barely ever calls you baby. Babe, sure. Plenty. More in a âbabe, look at this spider!â or âbabe, seriously, I know this. Ask me again if owl eyes are orbs or tubes. Youâre gonna be so impressedâ sort of way than anything else. He also calls you every possible nickname that your name can be turned into, from just the first letter to even just the last one. Itâs weird. Itâs cute. Itâs him.
This guy, the one with the spotless room and the folded Vigilante suit in the chair in the corner and the pictures on the walls that are of you and your boyfriend but not, this guy is not Adrian.
Your eyes scan the photos. Thereâs a picture of the two of you at a fancy restaurant, holding hands and smiling at each other in the cheesiest way youâve ever seen. Where that picture is in your own apartment, there's a photo of you on Adrianâs back, both of you drunk and laughing your asses off as Chris shakes champagne over two of you and Economos throws up over the edge of the roof in the background.
This little pocket of life looks so normal. So weirdly domestic where your beloved little life is all chaos.
âWhere am I?â
âHome.â
âTry again.â
He frowns, looking down at your hands still raised in the ridiculous T before you, then back up at your face. âWanna put that down?â
âNo.â
âHome. But in another dimension.â
âWhere are your glasses?â
His eyebrows raise again, hands still up in surrender like heâs placating you. Like you may as well be holding a gun in his face.
âBedside drawer.â He gestures his head towards said drawer, and then points to his own face without lowering his hands. âContacts.â
You just barrel onto the next question. âWhat the fuck was all that about?â You gesture to the bed, where you were just lying. Just wrapped in his arms with his lips crushed against yours.
He follows your gaze. âWhy did I kiss you?â
âIf you wanna put it that simply.â
âBecause I love you.â And his eyes soften, though the hunger doesnât leave them. âAny version of you.â
You canât help the twist in your heart. The way your steely gaze must falter beneath the intensity of his own.
âSo whereâs this version of me, then?â
And then his gaze really does soften, sadness and pain creeping into his features like a poison, and he doesnât have to say it. You know before the word leaves his lips.
Summary: after coming to the realization that your lab partner is Spider-Man, you find yourself getting a little too involved with his endeavors. This is part 2 of Spidey. I highly recommend reading that one first before this one, as it does reference stuff that happened in part one!
warnings: some blood and gore mentioned at the expense of Steve. Cussing. No use of Y/N. Fluff. Maybe some angst?? If you squint really hard. The fact I havenât written anything in over a year yassss.Â
word count: 6.6k
authorâs note: me when I promised yall this AGES AGO (a whole year!!) and then never wrote it đ I was having a HORRIBLE time last year and couldn't find the time to write literally anything at all. I still have people asking me for part two of this, so here you go!!! Thank you so much for all the love on part one. I hope you love this one just as much. <3
Youâre sitting on your bed in your dorm room, anxiously chewing on your fingers as you and Robin, who is mirroring your anxious action, watch the news on your shared TV. âFormer OSCORP scientist, Doctor Otto Octavius, has declared his plans for the city in a new sinister clip of him fighting with the neighborhoodâs now well-known hero, Spider-Man. Though it is unknown when these plans will take place, it is important to know that authorities are watching this case closely, and there is no reason to panic.âÂ
Itâs been a few months since your first encounter with your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, which also marks a few months since you started speculating that your lab partner, Steve Harrington, is the masked hero. Itâs between semesters, a cold winter chill frosts the window to your dorm, and the heater is running rampant in the corner of the room. You havenât seen Steve much during the break, and you honestly canât remember the last time Robin saw him either. Truthfully, you would do anything to not have to worry about Steve, no, Spider-Man, right as the new semester is starting.
As the news anchor speaks, Otto Octavius is shown throwing Spider-Man up against a building after yelling loudly into the camera about how he plans to destroy the beloved city. You can see Robin jump out of the corner of your eye, her eyes welling up with tears. Before you can say something to her, Spider-Man is shown quickly getting up before swinging away, clearly badly injured.Â
âWhat the hellâŚâ Robin whispers to herself before quickly reaching for the remote and shutting the TV off. She looks over at your hand in your mouth, your fingers completely destroyedâ hers the same. In the back of your mind, you knew why she was this upset. Was Steve really the one out there in that mask? Was he really the one who was just thrown against that building? But also, maybe she was just scared. After all, your city was just promised to be destroyed. You were scared. Scared for your family, scared for the future. Usually, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was fighting your everyday robbery, not some criminal mastermind who now has mechanical octopus arms coming out of his back. The city had never seen someone so dangerous, so⌠threatening. Just watching him speak was enough to make your stomach turn.Â
Robin runs her hands through her hair, holding back the tears that are still building up in her eyes. âR⌠hey.â You walk over to your friend and take her hands into yours. Both of your clammy hands are holding onto one another for dear life. âItâs gonna be okay.â You give her a small smile, one she returns fondly. âYeah, right, of course. The⌠city will be fine.â She nods her head as she takes a deep breath. You nod along with her before there is a loud, frantic knock at the door. You give Robin a confused look as she makes her way to the door, swinging it open to reveal two younger boys that you have never seen before. âWhere is he??â The one with curly hair says, almost yelling, the curls being squashed underneath his baseball cap. Robin stutters and then looks back at you, then back at the two boys. âHave you been watching the news?â The other one exclaims, his deep black hair swooping to the side.Â
You furrow your brows as you take a step towards Robin. She looks back at you, then back to the boys again. She starts to stutter, seemingly not able to find any words to say to you or the boys in front of her. âI- um, yeah! Of course I have! Have I seen who? That creep Dr. Octavius, no! Why would I?â You canât see it, but her eye twitches at the boys, hoping that they will catch on to what she is doing. You peek your head into view, where the boys can now see you too, and the one with curly hairâs eyes go wide. âOh!â he exclaims. âYouâre right, Robin, this perhaps isnât a good time. Mike and I will be back later, yeah?â Robin just nods before slamming the door and turns around to face you, a smile on her face.Â
âWhat the hell was that?â you ask, arms crossed over your chest. âNothing!â Robin says as she steps further into your dorm room. âJust some kids that Steve and I know. Donât worry about it.â You bite your bottom lip, thinking. âRiiiightâŚâ you whisper at her as she sits across from you on her bed. She seems nervous. Not the normal kind of nervous that you're used to seeing from her. âRob, is somethingâŚâ You search for what to ask. She stands up and runs her fingers through her hair, her eyes refusing to meet yours. â...wrong?â You finally finish your sentence. She shakes her head a little too quickly in response as she looks back at the door before sighing. âUm, Iâm so sorry but I uh, I think I need to go.â Your face distorts into confusion, and she is already up and gathering her stuff before she can even finish her sentence. âGo?â She nods and looks back at you sympathetically. She freezes for a moment before going to open the door. âThe kids! I-I should make sure they get home okay.â You nod. âYeah, okay, no problem. Iâll call you if anything else crazy happens on the news, yeah?â Robin walks over and hugs you. âIâll be back later.â She states before barging out of the dorm room.Â
You are now left in silence. The only thing making noise is that damn heater in your room. The only thing providing even an inch of comfort in this moment. You sigh and crawl into your bed, snatching the TV remote off of Robinâs nightstand, flicking the TV back on. Whatâs going on at OSCORP is being published on every single channel, and you just canât seem to get away from it. You decide to turn the TV off and do your pre-semester homework, hoping it will take your mind off it. You open up your biology lab, and the article you have to read is titled, âGenetic Engineering: An Oscorp Study.â You groan and throw the book onto the floor, running your fingers through your hair. âOf courseâŚâ
You throw your body against the bed, completely defeated. You stare up at the ceiling, eyes growing a bit heavier with every passing moment. Youâre about to just take a nap when another loud bang is heard at your door. You prop yourself up on your elbows as your eyebrows furrow. Another kock. You sit up straight, hair a bit of a mess after it had just been squashed on your pillow. Another knock. âJesus, Iâm coming!â You yell towards the closed door and hop out of your bed, making your way towards it. One final knock is heard from the opposite side of the door. âOh my god, R, did you forget your keys or something?â You say with a laugh and swing the door open, your smile dropping immediately. âSteve?â His name falls from your mouth, your tone light in disbelief. You look him up and down, his eyes are bloodshot, and he has scratches covering almost the entirety of his body. Your biggest worry, though? Is the huge black eye hidden by his glasses, and the fact that he can barely stand and is using your doorframe to hold himself up. âOh my god, are you-?â You canât even find the words. You notice his hand slipping off the doorframe, and you immediately grab his arm, pulling him up and locking your arm around his. âCome on, come sit down.â He almost protests, seeing now that you're alone and Robin isnât in the dorm, but he obliges, following you towards your bed. He holds onto your shoulder for extra security as he pushes himself up onto your bed, his eyes closing tightly as a âmmmâŚâ falls from his lips.Â
âI-Iâm sorry, I just had nowhere else to go.â He whispers. You shake your head, grabbing a water bottle from your mini fridge. âTake your glasses off.â His apology goes in one ear and out the other for you. Your mind is fogging with worry. He starts to take off his glasses and winces from the pain of them slightly touching his eye. You walk over to him, concern drenches your features as you bring your hand up to his chin, tilting his head upwards so you can see his face better. You gently put the water bottle against his eye and shake your head again. Steve smiles up at you and scoffs. âWhat? Worried about me?âÂ
âShut up.â You whisper, taking a step back now that he has taken over, holding the water bottle against his eye. You walk over to your desk, opening it drawer by drawer, looking for the first aid kit you stuffed away somewhere when you first moved into the dorms, growing more and more agitated every time itâs not in the last drawer you opened. âCalm down over there, princess. Iâm fine.â You canât help but shake your head again, a natural response to almost everything Steve does. As youâre searching for the kit, your mind continues to race, worry clouding your thoughts. Do I tell him I know? What if Iâm wrong and he just laughs in my face? Hey! Youâre Spider-Man, and Iâve known for months! Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. You finally find the first aid kit and walk back over to Steve, sitting next to him on the bed. You open up the tiny bottle of peroxide and put it on a cotton ball. Steve whines at the smell of it. âOh, fuck, for real?â âBrace yourself, itâs gonna burn.â Steve winces in pain as you press the cotton ball on all of the cuts on his face. With each pat of the cotton ball, he pulls his face further away from your touch. âStop movingâŚâ You sigh into a whisper. Steve watches you intently as your hand now cups the back of his head so he canât pull away any further.Â
The only thing you can hear is the sound of Steveâs irregular breathing and the sound of your own heartbeat. You think for a moment about asking him what happened. Maybe in this vulnerable state, he would finally feel comfortable enough to talk to you. You decide to take the chance, breaking the silence with a deep breath to stabilize your own breathing now. âCare to explain how any of this happened?â You ask, voice low so as not to disturb the boy who most definitely has a concussion. Your hand has now slid down to his neck, still holding him still. He responds with only a shrug, and you frown. âRight.â You sigh and grab the ice pack out of the first aid kit, cracking it to activate it. Steve gladly takes it from your hand, swapping the water bottle out for something colder and more effective. You take the water bottle from him, opening it so he can now use it for its intended purpose. âThank you.â, he says softly, his hand slowly reaching to grab it. His fingertips reach the back of your hand, the feeling of his touch making your eyebrows raise only for a second. His eyes meet yours, his touch still lingering. The smallest trace of a smile appears on the corner of his mouth as he finally takes the water from you.Â
You watch him closely as he takes a drink, one hand still shielding his bruised face with the ice pack. You want to cry seeing him like this, especially knowing that he is lying. Everyone around you is lying. Your heart stings at the thought. Does everyone know but me? Your throat tightens with sadness, defeat drenched on your face. He looks over at you and sighs, removing the ice pack and putting his glasses back on. âNo crying over little old Stevie, okay? I just⌠had a skateboarding accident.â He looks away from you when he says that last part. A lie.Â
All you can do is nod before you take a deep breath and sigh. âMmmhmm, skateboarding.â You canât even look at him anymore as you play with your fingers in your lap before standing up and running your fingers through your hair. âWhat?â Steve asks, confused by your seemingly nervous demeanor. Your chest rises and falls visibly as you pace in front of Steve. His eyes tracked your movements, eyebrows starting to raise at each passing moment. âYou're freaking me out.â He finally says, about to stand up. âNo, Steve, youâre freaking ME out!â You exclaim, now looking down at him as he relaxes back onto the bed. âI told you, Iâm fine!â He raises his voice slightly at you, but he immediately retracts it as his head starts to pound. âStop lying to me!â You yell, your voice now also ringing in Steveâs ears. He looks right at you, dead in the eyes. âLying? Iâm not lying!â He yells back, now ignoring the pain in his head. He starts to stand up, groaning as soon as his feet touch the floor. You go to grab him, but he dismisses your touch, almost pushing you away, a direct contrast from the moment you had with him just seconds ago.âI donât know why I came here,â he mumbles under his breath as he waddles towards the door. âYeah, whatever, run away like you always do, go save the world, Spider-Man!â It slips out of you before you can even think to stop it, and a whisper of a gasp leaves your lips. Steve stops in his tracks, hand frozen on the doorknob, before he slowly turns to face you. He licks his lips and then takes a deep breath. He says nothing for a moment, eyes burning into yours.Â
âWhat did you just say?â He has a smile on his face, though not joyful. Itâs filled with annoyance and rage. You canât help but scoff as you throw your arms in the air in disbelief. âYouâre insane.â He says to you before opening the door and making sure to slam it on his way out. You are once again left alone, standing in the middle of your dorm room. The silence is sickening, deafening. A tear falls down your cheek as you gather your thoughts, not able to understand what is happening. You decide youâve had enough for the day as you crawl into bed, forcing your mind to shut off as you drift off to sleep.Â
â
Your alarm blares in your ear as the Monday sun rises, initiating the start of the new semester. You groan as you lean over and shut it off, and you notice Robinâs figure underneath her comforter. You sigh, grateful to no longer be alone, but also irritated that you canât talk to her about anything. Especially not after Steveâs reaction, his blatant shut-down of your accidental slip-up has left you second-guessing yourself more than ever before. Swinging your legs over your bed, you stretch and try to shake off the rotten feeling that the conversation you and Steve had the night before has left you with. Maybe it was just a dream. You try to convince yourself, even though the image of Steveâs black eye is burned into your memory. You finally get yourself out of bed, trying to be as quiet as possible to not wake Robin, but she turns over and her eyes flutter open anyway. âHey, Dingus.â She whispers, her voice coarse and rough with sleep. âHi.â You give her a small smile through the mirror as youâre sitting on the floor in front of it, doing your makeup for the day. âSorry to run out on you like that yesterday.â You shrug, putting your mascara on. âNo worries.â She sighs and stands up, coming over and sitting down right next to you on the ground, legs criss-crossed. She leans over, head resting on your shoulder. âWe are gonna have a movie night tonight at Steveâs parentsâ house, care to join?â You lean your head onto hers, you guys looking at each other through the mirror. You hesitate for a second before taking a deep breath and sigh. âSure, why not?â You smile and pat her on the knee before standing up and grabbing your book bag. âSee you later then?â You say with a smile, and she nods, a yawn stopping her from replying with words.Â
You start to make your way to class, and the feeling of being outside is almost nerve-wracking due to everything that's been going on in the city. You try to ignore it, but you're trapped in your thoughts. A sudden brush on your arm takes you out of it, making you jump. You turn around and see Steve standing there. Your eyes sweep over his figure, the same way they did when he was at your door, but this time his eye wasnât swollen, and the cuts and scratches have faded to light lines. His posture is also better. He isnât bent over in pain, and he no longer needs any kind of support to stand.
He notices the hand over your heart and laughs. âScare you?â You squint your eyes at him before turning around, not saying anything back. He jogs towards you, grabbing your arm once he catches up again. âLook, Iâm sorry, okay?â He says, and you canât help but notice the way the light is hitting his sun-kissed hair, or how his glasses are slipping down his nose before he pushes them up with his middle finger. You shake your head, ignoring those thoughts, and sigh. âThank you for helping me yesterday. I shouldnât have run out on you like that.â You scoff at his statement as you look up at him. âNothing new.â You shrug as you pull your book bag up your shoulder and try to avoid eye contact with the boy in front of you. He ignores you and runs his fingers through his hair messily, and you canât help that your heart skips a beat. âDid Robin tell you about movie night tonight?â You nod and shield your eyes from the sun with your hand as your face is now turned upwards towards him. âGood. I wanna make it up to youâŚlast night, I mean.â You laugh softly and look at your watch. âWell, Iâll be there. I, uhâŚI need to get to class.â You scrunch your face up and point behind you, motioning towards the English building. He nods and starts walking backwards. âIâll see you later, princess!â He shouts before turning around, his skateboard now on the ground as he runs off to⌠whatever it is that Steve Harrington has to do today. Is it economics? Or is it saving the world?Â
â
You find yourself a few hours later, knocking on the big double doors of Steve Harringtonâs family home, nervously waiting for someone to open the doors as rain pours down all around you, enveloping you underneath your umbrella. Your hoodie being the only thing providing you with even an ounce of comfort from the chilly night. You are finally greeted with a sad smile from one of the boys that you saw just yesterday at your dorm. âOh, hi!â He says, moving so you can walk past him inside. âIâm Dustin, by the way.â He says as he walks in behind you. You give him a warm smile and introduce yourself back, quickly closing your umbrella in order to not leave a mess on the polished wood flooring. The boy finally moves in front of you to guide you to the living room, where everyone else is. You were expecting to see smiles, hear laughter, and see popcorn everywhere, as a horror movie played. Instead, you walked into silence, everyoneâs eyes glued to the news that was playing on the screen in front of them. âWh-whatâs going on?â You ask anxiously, Robin turns towards you, and bites her bottom lip anxiously. âDoctor Octavius, heâŚâ She stops in her tracks and motions for you to come sit next to her. You take another look around the living room as you set your bag down on the table beside you, finding comfort next to your best friend on the couch. There are six kids spread across the floor on sleeping bags, one that you now know to be Dustin, and three other people your age sitting on another couch across from you. Nancy, Jonathan, and Eddie, people you have met many times before, whether it be with Robin or at a frat party. They all give you a small wave before gluing their eyes back to the TV.Â
âUm, whereâs Steve?â You ask. Everyone, including the kids, directs their attention towards you now. On the TV, Spider-Man is shown swinging from building to building, desperately trying to save anyone he can as Doctor Octavius destroys any building he comes into contact with. âHe, um-â Nancy starts to say, but Jonathan finishes for her, âis just stuck in traffic, is all, he was coming fromâŚthe city.â You look at all of them in disbelief, âThe city? Is he okay?â Nobody answers you as their eyes avert back to the news. You couldnât take it anymore.Â
âWell, Iâm not sitting around here. If heâs stuck in the city, Iâm going to go get him.â It no longer mattered to you whether Steve was Spider-Man or not. Regardless of whether he was the masked figure swinging from building to building on TV or if he really was in the city, stuck as an innocent bystander. You stand up from your position on the couch and grab your things from the coffee table recklessly. Robin stands up and blocks you from moving any further. âWe canât do anything! All we can do is wait.â You shake your head as you start to walk towards her. âYeah, maybe thatâs all you can do.â You spit out at her. Nancy softly grabs your wrist and tries to protest, along with the rest of the party around you. âYou putting yourself in danger isnât going to help anyone. Especially not Sp-...â Another of the younger kids with auburn hair starts to argue before stopping in her tracks. âSteve.â She finishes. âI know you all think Iâm oblivious to what is going on, but Iâm over it.â Your voice rises, unable to control your anger any longer. âIâm leaving. And if I get hurt, thatâs on me.â You rip your wrist out of Nancyâs grasp and bump shoulders with Robin, making your way to the front door, completely abandoning your umbrella now. Â
You make your way towards your car, rain now drenching the entirety of your body. You march furiously to the driverâs seat, emotions running wild. Your eyes well up with tears but at the same time, youâre angry. But, most importantly, youâre scared. You open your car door, slamming it shut behind you as you shiver from the intensity of your now soaking wet hair and clothes. You know Robin is right; there truly is nothing that you can do, but you donât care. You know thatâs Steve out there fighting for his life, for the cityâs life, and you want to be there for it. There was no room anymore even to believe that you were speculating. Steve Harrington is Spider-Man. And you knew it. Regardless of how Steve acted the other night, you werenât ignorant of what was going on around you. The paranoia from Robin, all of his friends deathly worried about Spider-Man at all times every single day.Â
As you make your way towards the city, your heart is beating a million miles per hour. Cars are piled up in traffic on the other side of the street, trying to escape the uncertainty of the city. It feels like the apocalypse, and you're driving right into it. Nearing the city, more and more sirens are heard. The night sky is lit up by the fires that are devouring beloved buildings, smoke clouding the stars.Â
You make it to the city, stepping out of your car as you realize thereâs truly nowhere to go. Police lights are lighting up every street corner while the sound of ambulances blares from every direction. The rain is making it impossible to see the aftermath of what Doctor Octavious had done. You blink raindrops from your eyelashes, trying to make sense of where you should go. Your heart beats out of your chest while the only smell filling your nose is smoke. You stand still for a moment, head turning in every direction before deciding to make your way further into the destruction. You run closer to the buildings that you know were being shown on the news, but itâs quieter than you expected. All of a sudden, you hear coughing from a nearby alley, and you run towards the sound. Maybe someone needs help, you think to yourself as you make your way down the alleyway. The figure is leaning against the wall, desperately trying to catch their breath as they slide their body down to sit. âHey, are you alright?â You say, still not able to make the person out in the darkness and the rain. You put your hand over your eyes to try and block the rain from your view. âMiss, no! ItâŚitâs not safeâŚâ the person exclaims, not able to see you either. You are finally right in front of them, a street light providing the tiniest bit of visibility as you gasp. âOh, shit.â You say, leaning down beside them, Spider-Man. The masked figure finally looks at you and jumps. âWh-what are you doing here? You canât be here!â He exclaims, almost scolding you. It would have sounded more assertive if he had been able to catch his breath.Â
You look down at his hands covering his torso, your hand immediately going up to your mouth as you gasp. âOh, my god.â Your hands now meet his, uncovering the huge gash that was taken out of him. You press firmly on the wound, trying to stop the bleeding. âWe have to get you out of here.â You say to him, scared for his well-being. You knew whether or not this was Steve, although you were 99% sure it was; the person in front of you was in desperate need of help, and you were suddenly glad to be here. âNo, we need to get YOU out of here! YouâŚyou shouldnât be here!â You shake your head as you notice how hard he is trying to breathe, his chest rising and falling too quickly for someone who is getting an adequate air supply. âYou need to take off your mask, you canât breathe.â You state, hands never leaving his torso. He scoffs. âNice try, princess.â The nickname rolls too easily off his tongue, as he winces in pain when a strike of thunder makes him jump. âI canât get either of us out of here if you canât breathe enough to even walk. The rain is pouring hard enough that no one will see. Please, youâre bleeding too much.â You beg him to listen to you. Youâre almost screaming because of how loud the rain is pouring down, thunder crashing all around the two of you. âGod, youâre stubborn.â He sighs, finally reaching up and pulling his mask off his face.Â
Itâs like time freezes, seeing the face of Steve Harrington appear in front of you. I knew it. Thereâs a moment of uncertainty between the two of you as your eyebrows raise in shock. You know it isnât the time to scold him. Tell him you knew it all along. You take in the state of him, the rain washing all the blood off his face as he tries to take a deep breath, the air finally satisfyingly filling his lungs now that the mask is off. âOkay, fuck, we need to get out of here.â You say as you stand up and grab his arm, lunging it over your shoulder, while you press him up against the wall to stabilize him as you start to take off your jacket. He smiles and lets out a small chuckle. âNot exactly how this fantasy usually goes in my head.â He says, and your face scrunches up in disgust. âYouâre unbelievable. Put this on, try to cover your suit.âÂ
âI thought you said it was dark enough not to be seen?â He says, annoyingly, as he pulls the jacket over his body. âYeah, well, can never be too safe.â Steveâs hands move back to his wound, putting as much pressure on it as possible as his blood soaks your jacket. âThe hospital is probably packed, you-â You start to say as you start to walk towards your car, Steveâs body hanging onto yours for dear life. But, before you can finish, Steve interrupts you. âNo! No hospitals!â Steve exclaims before aching in pain. âJust take me to my house.â You shake your head at him as you guys reach your car, and you gently place him in the passenger seat, quickly making your way to the driverâs seat and putting your keys into the ignition. You canât help but notice the white Converse on Steveâs feet (the ones you know all too well), covered in mud, soaking the mat on the passenger seat floor. âSteve, youâre bleeding out!â You yell at him. âOh my god!â He groans and rolls his eyes. âJust, please. I promise it will be fine.âÂ
The drive back to Steveâs house is excruciatingly painful for the two of you. Your clothes are soaking wet, and you canât stop shivering. Steve is sitting in your passenger seat, blood soaking anything that he touches as he starts to drift off. Your heart starts beating rapidly as you see Steveâs eyes start to close. âHey! Harrington! Open your fucking eyes!â You take one hand off the steering wheel to hit his knee to hopefully bring him back to reality. âShitâŚâ He groans as he tries to hold consciousness. Youâre starting to average thirty miles per hour over the speed limit, and the closer you get to Steveâs house, anxiety completely takes over.Â
Finally, what feels like a lifetime later, you pull into Steveâs driveway. You quickly unbuckle your seatbelt and make your way out of the car. When you open the passenger seat door, Steve looks horrible. Now that the rain has lightened up, you can truly get a good look at him. âOkay, come on.â You pull him out of the car and put his arm over your shoulder, walking the two of you up to his door. You bang your fist harshly against the door before moving to the doorbell, ringing it about ten times, before Robin swings the door open. She gasps in horror at the sight of Steve and grabs his other arm, putting it around her shoulder as you both walk him towards the dining room, laying him on the table. Once Steve is lying down, itâs like everyone around you knows exactly what to do but you. They all move around hectically, though never running into each other once. It seems like routine to them. Jonathan yells for a bottle of alcohol while Eddie cuts part of Steveâs suit off of him. You stand and watch in horror as everyone, even the kids, start patching Steve up. âHey, cute girl! Get him some water, yeah?â You hear Eddie say from the table, his hands covered in Steveâs blood. All you can do is nod and move towards the fridge. You quickly walk back over with the cup of water and see Nancy stitching up Steveâs wound. He is lying on the table, squirming from the pain as Robin and Jonathan try to hold him still. âThis is worse than usual!â Nancy exclaims without letting her eyes leave her stitching.Â
âIâm fine, just hurry up!â Steve lifts his head to look down at her as she goes to finish the last few stitches. His hand now finds yours, squeezing it to try and numb the pain from his torso. The veins in his hands are popping out due to the force he is using, while the veins in his neck are strained. âOkay, done,â Nancy says, looking up at Steve with worry, and everyone else mirrors her action. All eyes are on him as Steve lets out a breath of relief and chuckles under his breath. âSee? Totally fine.â He huffs out, his breathing finally slowing down as he comes down from the adrenaline rush.Â
âWhat the fuck, dude?!â The boy with black hair exclaims, whom you think you heard someone call Mike, amidst all the chaos. Steve props himself up onto his elbows, still groaning in pain as the new position tugs on his stitches slightly and laughs, âItâll heal by tomorrow, trust me.â He says back to him, his eyes now finding yours. âLook what youâve gotten yourself into.â He wishes that he could be mad at you, mad at himself for not being able to protect you from all of this anymore, but truthfully, heâs grateful. Grateful he no longer has to lie, but especially grateful that you saved him in that alleyway.Â
âCare to help me to my room for some new clothes?â His eyes are still only on you. You donât say anything at first, still frozen in panic, in confusion. You blink rapidly and nod before reaching for his arm to help him up. âYeah, of course.â He winces in pain as he starts to sit up, everyone reaching for him as he does. A laugh comes from Steveâs mouth again. âJeezâŚ,â is all he can say as he stands up, using your body as an anchor. Your footsteps are almost too loud for the boy with multiple concussions. You donât say anything else to him, afraid even your voice may cause him to flinch in pain as you walk him up the stairs to the bedroom. His feet follow yours one step at a time, your hand wrapped tightly around his arm, scared he might fall if you let go for even a second. Once you guys make it up the stairs, he points in the direction of his bedroom door, and your stomach flips. Iâm going into Spider-Manâs room. No, Steveâs room.Â
Steve pushes the door open and allows himself to let go of your body, limping over to his dresser. You sit on the edge of his bed and wait for him to say something first. It feels like forever goes by until he clears his throat and waddles his way over to you, sitting right next to you on his squeaky bed, a fresh shirt and pants bundled in his hands. âAre you okay?â He whispers over to you. Your eyes meet one anotherâs, yours glossing over with tears before you sniffle them away. âMe? Y-yes, of course I am. I canât say the same for you, though.â You point down to his torso, his Spider-Man suit torn to shreds, showing every inch of his body that is suffering from the attack. He shrugs, and his demeanor changes; his eyes not even threatening to leave your gaze. âIâm sorry Iâve been lying to you.âÂ
Itâs like a breath of fresh air to hear those words come out of his mouth, and you choke out a laugh, wiping your eyes.âI just want you to know I knew it.â You smile shyly at him, and he nods. âI know. How long?âÂ
âSince last semester, when we were still lab partners. When we made our pinky promise in Rob and Iâs dorm room, I figured it out.â He shakes his head, confused. âHow?â You laugh again, this time slightly louder, as a smile is smeared on your face. âSome super hero advice for you, Spider-Man, if youâre gonna call your damsels a certain nickname, donât call them that when youâre uh⌠out of uniform.â His eyes light up, a click switching in his mind. Golden brown orbs are no longer meeting yours as his head dips down in embarrassment, a smile now on his face as well. âPrincessâŚâ he nods in understanding. Your face scrunches up in amusement as you nod back at him.Â
It falls silent again for only a moment until Steve speaks. âI just wanted to protect you.â A serious tone now overtakes the conversation. âI donât need protecting.â He shakes his head at this. âI donât know what Iâd do if you got hurt. I was so worried when I saw you in the city tonight.â You take his hand in yours, and he flinches slightly at your touch, but relaxes almost just as quickly. âIâm not going anywhere.â You reassure him, his eyes now looking into yours again. Your eyes canât choose a place to look, examining all his scars and bruises before moving your hand up to cup his face, your thumb rubbing softly over his cheek to not disturb any of his wounds. âAre you this sweet with all your lab partners?â You whisper to him and he laughs, âNo, just the really cute ones.â Your eyes sparkle in response, a smile prickling at your lips. âAhhh, I see. Me too.âÂ
A soft knock is heard at the door, and you drop your hand from Steveâs face as you both clear your throats. Robin walks in and sighs, âYour parents are in the driveway, you, uh, might want to change. The kids will distract them, so donât worry for now.â Steve throws his body onto the bed and groans. âGreat.âÂ
âYou got him?â Robin asks you, starting to peek her head out of the room. You nod, âI do.â You help Steve sit back up so he can unzip his suit, revealing the true damage to his body, and your eyebrows furrow. âNo staring, perv,â Steve says with a smile as he pulls a baggy white t-shirt over his head, and you help him into a pair of pajama pants. You roll your eyes at him playfully as a bunch of loud voices are heard through Steveâs window, and you both look at each other with confusion plastered on your faces. You get up and look outside, and all the kids are yelling at Steveâs parents, getting in their way so they canât come inside. You laugh and make your way back to the bed next to Steve. âThereâs your distraction.â You say with finger quotes in the air. Steve âaahsâ in understanding. Before you sit back down on the bed, you see his glasses thrown on his nightstand, and you reach over and grab them. âSoâŚyou can swing from building to building and heal in 24 hours butâŚyou donât have 20/20 vision?â You tease, twirling them in your hand. He nods and turns pink from embarrassment. âI kinda just wear them still cause they make me look scholarly at school.â You laugh and put them gently on his face. âSuch a shame. I think theyâre pretty hot.â The shade of pink on his cheeks turns an even deeper red as he smiles at you. âYa know, I wasnât lying about thatâŚfantasy from earlier.â You shake your head and playfully hit him on the shoulder, not too hard to disturb his healing bruises.Â
Summary: You get stuck with Steve Harrington as your lab partner in your college biology class but he never seems to show up to class or make time for important homework assignments.
Imma call this aaaaa âpeople who love to bicker but actually love each otherâ fic because reader and Steve arenât mean enough to each other to be considered enemies. :p ALSO! I will GLADLY write a part 2 of this so lemme know đĽ°

You sat in the cool air of your dorm room, focused on the biology homework in front of you as your roommate Robin was quickly flipping through channels on the TV to find something to watch. â-and Spider-Man!â, you hear quickly before the channel is changed again and your eyes are adverted to Robin. âHey! Go back!â You say excitingly as Robin shrugs and goes back a few channels. âOkay, stop!â Your eyes light up as J. Jonah Jameson is going on another rampage about the cityâs new hero.
âWhat⌠this?? I hate this guy.â You shake your head and laugh. âNo, not the news guy! Spider-Man!â Robin rolls her eyes and smiles slightly, like she knows something that you donât. âEw. You know, there could be a complete weirdo underneath that mask and you wouldnât even know it.â You shrug and go back to doing your homework. âDoesnât matter to me.â
âOh suuuureâŚâ Robin says under her breath. âHuh?â You say with your eyebrows furrowed not actually sure of what Robin had said. âWhat? Oh, nothing!â She smiles and quickly fills her mouth with a handful of popcorn so she canât talk anymore.
A few hours later Robin had left the dorm room to go take a shower and you hear a quick, melodic knock on the door. You sigh and stand up from the comfy spot in your bed and shuffle yourself to the door. As you approach the door you hear the sound of small items hitting the floor, followed by a mumbled, âoh, shit, fuck⌠SHIT!â You swing the door open to reveal Steve Harrington dropping a bunch of boxed candy and bags of popcorn on the floor. His fit frame bent down, picking up everything quickly. âSorry Iâm late, Robin, I got caught up with Spi- OH!â He jumps slightly before finally gathering himself and looks up at you, his smile dropping. âItâs you.â He stands up straight and shrugs, and scoots past you into your dorm room.
âYeah, come right on in!â You say with a scoff as Steve lays all his stuff on Robinâs bed. âHm⌠finally here to do our biology lab, Harrington?â He scoffs and starts pulling out a bunch of movies from his backpack. âHell no. Itâs horror movie night for Robin and I.â His back stays turned away from you as he talks, your eyes burning into the back of his head the whole time. Your arms cross over your chest as you lean your back against your bed. âSoooo, lemme get this straight, you donât show up for class, you never show up to our study sessions, and now you canât even help with the lab that YOUR name is gonna be on⌠even if you didnât do any of it?â He shrugs and finally turns around to look at you. âYeah, sounds about right.â He takes a step towards you. âLook, Iâm sorry. Iâll figure out how to be included in the lab somehow, okay?â Your eyes narrow at him as you process what heâs saying.
âNo you wonât.â You say flatly. Steveâs eyebrows furrow at you, his eyes looking a little bit shocked. âWh-what do you mean?â You roll your eyes again before grabbing some of your stuff and a blanket. âYou say that every homework assignment. Iâm tired of picking up the slack for you.â You slug your backpack over your shoulder before walking towards the door. âItâs almost midnight! Where are you going?!â Steve says as he slightly raises his voice, annoyed with you. âTo finish our lab, ya know? The one thatâs due inâŚ8 hours.â You look at a fake watch on your wrist before opening the door, revealing Robin only a few feet away from your dorm room. âHey, idiot, where are you going?â Robin says with a smile as you walk right past her. âEnjoy your movie night.â You say to both of them as you make your way to the library.
As you reach the library, you couldnât help but feel as if there were eyes on you the whole way there. It was a Sunday night on a college campus, lots of kids were finally returning to their dorms after a weekend of partying, but there was no reason to feel unsafe. You shake the feeling before finally finding a study room to finish your lab in peace. Thankfully you get super focused, not allowing your mind to wonder about the interaction you had just had with Steve or about the anxious feeling you had felt only a moment before. Only an hour later, you finished your assignment and smiled. Though, as you look at the top of the page where your name was written in nice, neat handwriting, you freeze for a second, tapping your pencil on the table as you think before sighing, and quickly writing, âSteve Harringtonâ, right next to yours.
You quickly close your notebook before you can change your mind and shove it into your backpack. The anxious feeling suddenly comes back as you realize youâre the only one in the library. You shake your head and quickly grab your things and start to make your way back to your dorm. Before you can make it to your dorm building you hear a whistle and freeze. âHey, pretty thing!â Someone yells out and you continue walking. âOh, come on, I just want to talk!â The voice is getting closer and closer to you as your feet start to move as fast as they can. Unfortunately, you werenât walking fast enough as there is now a very drunk college boy walking parallel with you. âWhat? A guy canât compliment a girl anymore?â He takes a slug of his drink before turning towards you. âHm, thanks but Iâm not interested. Have a good night.â He scoffs. âCome on! It wonât hurt to give me the time of day.â âIt mightâŚâ you mumble under your breath before feeling a tight grip on your wrist. âWhat did you say?â He says between gritted teeth. âN-nothing!â Your voice gets louder but before he can respond, another voice is heard from above.
âNow is that any way to treat a lady?â Both you and the man, whoâs grip on you loosens, look above you to reveal a figure perched up on a light post. The voice is sarcastic but playful as he shoots his hand out and releases a silk like substance from his hand, throwing the man away from you onto the ground. You stay frozen in your place, not sure if itâs out of fear or confusion. âWha-?â You canât even finish your sentence as the perched figure stands and jumps down besides you, your eyes going wide. âS-spider-man?â Your eyes light up as a smile appears on your face.
âOh! Seems I have a fan?â The tone of the masked man is fun yet comforting, and it reminds you of honey. âDonât get too close.â He says with a laugh as he walks towards the drunk boy who is still plastered on the ground. The masked man makes his way to the boy and webs him to the floor before crouching next to him. âNow, letâs use our big boy words and tell the girl youâre sorry? Okay?â The boy quickly nods before shaking and looking over at you. âS-sorry.â He looks over at Spider-Man, whoâs shaking his head at him. âHm⌠one more time. Like you mean it.â
âIâm really sorry, maâam.â The boy looks back at Spider-Man for approval. âMuch better.â Spider-man pats him on the shoulder before standing up, âEnjoy your time outside tonight!â He says as he looks down at the boy still webbed to the ground before turning his attention to you.
âDo me a favor, princess?â You nod your head, mouth slightly agape as you stand in shock still. âGo get to your dorm safely.â He points behind you as he walks backwards, never letting his back turn from you until you start walking away. You clutch your books to your chest before quickly turning around again to see if he is still there. Your heart is beating so fast that you can feel it in your throat, but you still manage to yell a clear, âSpider-Man?â In his direction. He turns back around and looks at you, walking backwards again.
âThank youâŚâ you say with a small smile. âAnything for you.â He yells back before swinging into the shadows. As soon as you turn around to walk into your building, you bite your lip and smile. âOh Robinâs gonna love this.â You mumble underneath your breath.
As soon as you open the door to your dorm room, you feel an anxious energy flood over you. Your smile fades as you look over at Robin pacing back and forth and chewing on her nails. As she makes eye contact with you, her eyes light up. âOh my god, youâre okay! I meanâŚâ she puts her hair behind her ear. âOf course youâre okay, why wouldnât you be okay? You were just at the library. At the library⌠in the dark! And Iâm really scared of the dark so⌠in reality Iâm just projecting my own fears!! Iâm just being silly.â Robin laughs nervously as she sits on her bed. Staring at you with an awkward smile.
âOoookay.â You say with a small laugh as you sit on your bed thatâs across from her. Your smile grows bigger as you two sit in silence. âOh, god, what??â Robin says with an amused but also grossed out tone. âIsawSpider-Mantonight.â You say under your breath super quickly. Robin squints her eyes at you. âI canât hear a word youâre saying.â She says as she leans her head in closer to you. âSpider-Man. I just saw him⌠right now. He⌠he talked to me, Robin.â Your voice grows louder and louder as you speak, excitement spilling from your body.
Robin rolls her eyes as she lays back into her bed, slamming her back into the mattress. âOh Jesus Christ, thatâs whatâs got you all riled up?â If only you could see the smirk on her face. âRobin, he saved me from this super creepy guy⌠and then called me princess.â Robin sits up from her parallel position and looks at you. âEw.â She frowns.
Now it was your turn to roll your own eyes as you laugh and throw one of your pillows at her. âWhatever.â She laughs now too and throws one of her pillows back. âIâm happy for you, idiot.â She smiles as she lays down and pulls her blanket over her body. âNow go to bed and dream about your little spider boy.â She giggles and lays her head on her pillow, you mirroring her actions. âOh I plan on it.â You mumble and fall into a deep sleep, every dream including the masked man who saved you tonight.
When you wake up in the morning, you quickly check your phone to see what time it is, and it immediately puts you into a panic. âShit!â You say as you throw your blanket off of your body and pick up a pair of dirty jeans off of the floor and tug them up your legs. âWhat⌠are⌠you doing?â Robin grumbles as she covers her face with her pillow. âMy stupid lab is due today and class starts in likeâŚ10 minutes.â You scoff as you pull a t-shirt over your head. âAnd lord knows Steve isnât gonna show up and present anything so if Iâm late that means both of us are going to get zeros.â Robin groans as she turns over in her bed. âGood luck.â She says as she throws a thumbs up over at you. âMmhmm⌠thanks, R.â You quickly run your fingers through your hair as you shrug with approval and grab all your things, making your way quickly out of your dorm and to your class.
You had never walked faster to a class in your life. Your feet were moving a million miles a minute as you approached your classroom. That is until you hear a voice from beside you. âYou look like youâre in a rush.â You stop in your tracks as you look at the boy and scoff. âWow, decided to show up today, huh?â You look up at him, Steve. He shrugs and puts his hands in his pockets. âDecided I had enough time for you today I guess.â Your eyes squint at him for only a moment before you scoff. âOkay, Harrington.â
You shake your head as you quickly dig through your backpack and pull out the notebook that had your lab written in it, slapping it in Steveâs hands. âReview that as we walk.â You say as your feet start moving towards your classroom again. âYou have a lot to catch up on. Come on, looks like we are both in a rush.â
Steve quickly follows behind you as he looks down at the lab in his hands, a smile forming on his face. âYou know you really donât have to give me credit for any of this⌠you shouldnât.â You shrug as you look up at him. âYouâre smart, Steve. I know you are. You just⌠are occupied. Itâs okay. Iâll cover for you.â You smile up at him as he looks down at you with a glimmer in his eyes, the sun hitting off of the rim of his glasses perfectly.
âWe could make a deal? Iâll do the next lab by myself. I promise.â You canât help but laugh at Steveâs words as you shake your head. âYeahhh not holding you to that promise, Harrington. Though, I do appreciate the offer.â Steve stops walking for a second, softly grabbing your wrist. âNo, Iâm serious, please, let me make it up to you.â Your eyebrows furrow as your eyes meet his, seriously considering his offer. âFine. Pinky promise me, Steve Harrington.â Steve rolls his eyes as he holds out his pinky. A sweet smile on his face as a curl falls down into his face. âPinky promise.â He slightly whispers as you two lock fingers. As your fingers lock and your eyes meet one anotherâs, you feel a flutter in your chest. It feels like time is frozen until you both get knocked out of whatever trance youâre in with each other when Steve looks down at his watch thatâs on the hand that is currently interlocked with yours. âOkay but seriously we should probably get to class.â You release your hand from his as you nod quickly. âMhmm, yeah. Class.â
As you and Steve are waiting for your turn to present, you can see Steve getting antsy. His leg shakes up and down as he chews on his thumb nail, his eyes staying in one place, his face showing that though his body is in the classroom, his mind is not. âHeyâŚâ you whisper over at him. âRelax. Weâre gonna do fine.â Steve looks at you confused. âHm? I know that.â He shakes his head and goes back to chewing on his nails, his eyes darting down at his watch over and over again. You start to grow nervous that Steve might walk out on you right now. It wouldnât be the first time. Finally, your names are called to present your lab and Steve sighs in relief, quickly standing up.
You guys present your lab almost perfectly, besides the fact that Steve could not slow down his speech, making it known he was in a rush. As soon as you said the last word of your presentation, Steve darted out the door. You smile at your professor awkwardly and then to your classmates. âThank youâŚâ you say quietly as you make your way back to your seat. The seat next to you now uncomfortably empty.
As soon as class is over you close your books and make your way to your dorm. You are incredibly thankful that you have no more classes for the day as you walk through campus. You can feel your throat start to close as tears brew in your eyes. Just once you wanted Steve to actually care. So many missed homework assignments, so many missed presentations, and now, finally when Steve shows up, he reminds you once again that none of this matters to him. Did you matter to him? Why would you? Heâs Robinâs friend. Youâre just his lab partner. You somehow wished you were more. After almost a whole year of being put on the back burner by Steve Harrington, you still expected more from him. Wanted more from him. You quickly wipe the tears that fall down your cheeks before a voice is heard from above.
âHey, princess!!â The voice yells down. You jump slightly before looking up and seeing your favorite masked hero looking down at you. âWhy the long face, sweetheart?â You laugh softly, wiping your tears clean off of your face. âI think you have better things to do than help a girl with her feelings.â You yell back with a smile. Spider-Man quickly jumps down and takes up the space right next to you. He shrugs, âmy job comes with many responsibilities.â He starts to count on his fingers as he speaks. âBeating up bad guys, helping old ladies get their cats out of treesâŚhelping old ladies cross the street, OH and watching pretty girls walk home.â One of your eyebrows goes up as your face contorts into amusement.
âOh so I have a stalker now?â Even though the man has a mask on, you can feel the worry on his face as he gasps. âWhat? No⌠no! Thatâs not what I meant! You know thatâs not what I meant!â He says awkwardly and in a panic as he puts his hand on his head. âI just mean⌠you know, you never know what could happen because of that⌠creepy guy the other night.â He leans his back on the wall of the building you guys are standing next to, trying to be slick and cover up what he had said. You canât help but laugh as you step closer to him. âWell then I guess Iâm honored.â As you look at the masked man, you canât help but feel a longing for him. You want to know his secrets, what he looks like. His favorite color and favorite movie. You want to know him. Not Spider-Man, but the man in the mask. Your smile fades as you look toward your dorm building.
âWell, I shouldnât keep you. Itâs uh, itâs sweet of you to check on me.â You start to walk backwards, making your way to your dorm. Spider-Man sighs as he throws out his hand and swings back up to the light post he was on only minutes ago. âDonât be a stranger.â He yells down. âHow could I be??? Youâre stalking me, remember??â You yell back at him as he shakes his head and laughs. âIn your dreams, princess!â He yells one last time before swinging away. Oh if only he knew.
You spend the rest of the day longing for another interaction with Spider-Man. Just from the two small interactions you had, he made you feel like you mattered. As you sit cuddled up in your comforter, you can hear laughter approaching your room before Robin walks in with Steve. âOh, sorry dingus number two! I didnât know youâd be home yet.â You sigh as you sit up and look at them both. âNo problem.â A small smile forms on your lips as Steve looks over at you. He waves and scratches his neck nervously. Robin looks at you both and rolls her eyes with a loud groan. âOh get over it already you two. I can not have my two best friends be this awkward with each other all the time. Itâs killing me!â She grabs a few popcorn bags and walks towards the door again. âIâm going to the lounge to make this. You twoâŚâ she points at you both back and forth, âwork this out right now. Sheâs joining us for movie night tonight.â Steve looks at Robin with furrowed brows and slumped shoulders, almost begging her not to leave. Like they both know something you donât and they are communicating with their minds.
Robin tilts her head at Steve and he rolls his eyes with a quiet, âokay, fine, fineâŚâ leaving his lips, his hands going up in surrender. Robin quickly makes her way out of the dorm room, slamming the door behind her. You canât help but laugh at her dramatics, Steve joining in right after. âAwkward? Pft⌠we arenât awkward.â Steve says as he leans against Robinâs bed, arms crossed over his chest. You smile at him and roll your eyes before pointing between the two of you. âOh, this isnât awkward?â He shakes his head with a smug smile. âNahâŚâ he laughs before sighing and looking down at the ground. âIâm sorry⌠about earlier. I wish I could make it up to yo-,â
âDonât worry about it.â You quickly cut him off, not wanting to get upset, but Steve shakes his head. âNo, I am worried about it. Iâm sorry.â You frown slightly at him before speaking. âI just want to know why, Steve. I know Iâm just your lab partner, butâŚâ you shake your head at your own words. Steve squints slightly at you, wanting you to keep going. âBut what?â
You scoff again. âNothing. Seriously. You have better things to do, I understand that.â Steve frowns back at you now as he glides his hand through his hair. âI just wish I could explainâŚâ you shrug at him. âThereâs nothing to explain, Steve. You have your life, I have mine.â Steve pushes his glasses up his face before sticking his hands in his pockets. âWhatever you say, princess.â You smile as you look down in your lap, but suddenly a voice in the back of your head repeats the word princess back to you. Itâs not the word, itâs the way he said it. Itâs not mocking you, itâs sweetâŚlike honey. You freeze, mouth going slightly dry as your head shoots up to look at him, eyes going wide in shock. The nickname, of course youâve heard it before.
âWhat?â Steve says with a small chuckle, noticing the way you're suddenly studying his face. The chuckle that leaves Steveâs lips suddenly sounds familiar to you. Heâs busy all the time because he is Spider-Man. A voice says in your head before you shake it away. âNothingâŚnothing! Weâre good, Steve, I promise.â Your mind is still running wild. You try your best to hide your thoughts, not wanting to look crazy. Steve smiles and holds out his pinky, just like earlier. âPinky promise?â You take a deep breath before locking fingers with him again. âPinky promise.â You smile and just as youâre about to say something else, Robin barges in the room with two bowls full of popcorn, she smiles wildly as she looks at your fingers interlocked. âAwwww⌠dingus one and dingus two just needed some alone time!â She says as you and Steve both roll your eyes and let go of each otherâs hands. You look over at Steve one more time, his curly hair dangling in his face, his glasses perfectly framing his face, and you canât help but smile.
Maybe your connection with Spider-Man ran deeper than just having a crush on a masked superhero. Maybe heâs been in front of you this whole time and youâve never realized it. Whether your sudden realization was real or not, Steve Harrington had his secrets, but so did everyone else. Maybe youâd never know who was behind the masked hero, but suddenly, it didnât matter.

It was a very cold night in Hawkins, Indiana. Christmas lights filled the streets with warmth and you and your friends were in nothing but a giving mood. You, Nancy, Steve, Jonathan, Robin, and Eddie had big plans to surprise the party with a Christmas gift exchange.
âDid everyone bring presents? I brought a few extra just in case Eddie forgot.â You hear Nancy say from the living room as you continue to whisk together cake batter.
âWH- do you have no faith in me Nancy Wheeler?!â Eddie says back as he walks in with a big box full of presents for everybody and starts to place them neatly under the tree. You laugh as you lick some batter off of a spoon to make sure youâve made the cake just right.
âHey, Stevie, come try this for me?â You say as you put a small amount of chocolate batter on a spoon for Steve. As soon as the spoon touches his mouth, his eyes light up and he kisses his fingers like a chef would. âMagnificent as always, Y/N.â He says with a smirk as he reaches down and gives you a quick kiss on the cheek.
âNeed any help? You know Iâm a wizard at decorating a cake.â Steve leans against the counter and crosses his arms. âNuh uh, big boy, thatâs my job.â Robin nudges him as she walks into the kitchen. She knows just as well as you do that Steve always ruins the cake. Steve pouts jokingly and makes his way to the living room. âFine Iâll do the manly thing and light the fire.â He says in a mocking voice as he brings himself to the living room where the fireplace is.
You and Robin mock him behind his back and giggle to one another as Jonathan snaps a candid picture of you two with your hands covered in fondant. âOh my gosh, oh my gosh.â You say suddenly frantic and everyone turns to look at you.
âDID YOU CUT YOURSELF?!?â Eddie and Steve say at the same time and you laugh. âNo, no!â You nod your head over to the counter. âThe decorations. The kids should be arriving any minute now. All of you up, up, up!â Everyone quickly moves from their current places, except you and Robin whoâs still covered in food coloring and frosting.
Steve is helping Eddie hang up streamers over all the windows and Nancy and Jonathan quickly blow up red and green balloons to put around the house. âOh, Steve. I also need you to pop the waffles in the toaster for eleven, please!â You say as you and Robin finish up the cakes. âYou got it, hun.â Finally, the house is ready for a wonderful Christmas party.
And, just in time too as the doorbell rings and you all open it to the party yelling a big, âMERRY CHRISTMAS!!!â To all of you. They all make their ways into the house and you can see their eyes light up from the way the house looks and the amount of presents under the tree. Max and Eleven immediately run into the kitchen to look at the cake you made and start thanking you like crazy. Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will start play fighting with Steve, Eddie and Jonathan and itâs like a mad house inside.
Jonathan steps away from the fun to take some more candid photos of everyone. Max and El smile and hug each other for their photo while all the boys continue their madness. You canât help but stand and just take it all in. Your eyes meet Steveâs for just a second as he takes a breath from the boys. He mouths, âI love you.â And your heart skips a beat. The smile on your face lighting up the room even more than the Christmas lights were. âI love you too.â You mouth back as Steve sighs.
âOkay, okay. Enough. How about we get these presents open??â All the kids take this as their cue to grab their blankets and find a seat on the floor near the fireplace. All of you older kids grab all the presents and pass them out to everyone. Everyone looks so grateful just to be here. Will is the first one to say something before they start opening their presents. âYou know- you guys didnât have to do all of this.â You all give each other a smile before turning back to the kids. âWe wanted to.â Robin exclaims as she takes your hand and gives it a tight squeeze.
âYou guys deserve to feel like kids.â You say as you lean into Steve and he kisses your head.
âOh my gosh, the suspense is killing me just open them already!!!â Eddie says as the kids start ripping into their presents. Gasps and cheers happen all around us as everyone starts exclaiming thank yous over one another. Max runs up and gives Steve and you a huge hug since you guys bought her a brand new skateboard she has been asking for. âThis is so sick! Thank you so much!â Will is especially thankful when he notices how much everyone notices how much he still loves D&D. âThank you. I- I really love it, really.â He says to everyone. Everyone is smiling. Real genuine smiles that come from the warmest feeling of happiness.
It suddenly dawns on all of you how long it has been since youâve felt this happy. Thereâs absolutely nothing to worry about right now. No demogorgans, no upside down. Itâs justâŚChristmas. And you all are surrounded by the people that matter the most to you.
The night slows down after everyone opens their presents and you decide to put on a Christmas movie and eat as many sweets as you can. Steve and you make your way to the kitchen to cut the cake.
âIâm really happy, ya know?â Steve says quietly, this is a conversation just for your ears.
âMe too.â You whisper back. Your eyes meet his and you look at him with nothing but love. Before you can say anything too gushy, Steve smiles as he looks up. Mistletoe.
You roll your eyes and he smiles down at you. âCanât skip out on a mistletoe kiss, Y/N, thatâs against the rules.â He says softly and with a laugh as he dangles it above your head. You look over to make sure nobody is looking and then back at Steve. âNo, I guess I canât.â Your voice is like honey as it leaves your lips and Steve leans in and kisses you passionately.
Applause. Everyone in the living room is clapping and cheering. Before you can pull away from the kiss, Jonathan is quick to take a picture of the kiss between you and your boyfriend. Your face turns bright red at the audience you thought you didnât have and Steve laughs.
Between all the commotion, Steve looks down at you and pulls you close. âMerry Christmas, pretty girl.â
Summary: You just canât seem to hold your liquor correctly and your best friend Eddie Munson is just too out of it to help you. Steve Harrington notices your wobbly walk and canât help but to grab your arm to help hold you steady. Just some fluff.

It was a late night of drinking at none other than King Steve Harringtonâs house. You donât quite know what possessed you to show up to this party, knowing damn well that the sight of Steve makes you gag, but it was finals week and this was the best way to take the edge off. A few hours into the night after being way too sober, you find yourself tapping your foot against the floor, eyes wandering and decide to get yourself another drink. âHey, Eds.â You shake eddieâs shoulder to try and get his attention but Eddie was already out of it for the night. High as a kite.
Eddie shakes you off of him which makes you roll your eyes and sigh as you stand up off of the couch you two were sprawled out on and make your way to the kitchen. On the counter there is an absolute mess of alcohol to choose from. You sigh and pick up a few trying to decide what would be the easiest to choke down. âDisgusting.â You whisper to yourself as you pick up a bottle of straight vodka.
âHating on the choices, are you?â You hear a voice say from behind you which makes you roll your eyes. Steve. âYou have horrible taste.â You say with a small smile. Okay maybe I am a little drunk already, you think to yourself as you allow your smile to fade away quickly.
âToo pussy to take a shot of vodka?â Steve asks jokingly. Your eyes narrow as you look at him and then the bottle. âOh is that a challenge?â A small chuckle leaves your lips as you speak before Steve grabs the bottle from your hand, your fingertips gliding against one anotherâs for only a second. Your eyes never leave his face.
Steve pours two shots for you guys and says a small âcheersâ before choking back the hot liquid. To your own demise, you gag slightly and Steve laughs. âOh come on, seriously?!â He says still slightly laughing at you.
âYou canât look me in the face and tell me that thatâs not disgusting??â You say as you wipe the remnants of the liquid off of your lips and notice Steve staring. âOkay your turn. Pick one.â He says as he waves his hand towards the other alcohol.
As you overlook the liquor in front of you, Steve canât help but look at you. Heâs never really talked to you like this before since you always seem to immediately shut him down. He likes you. Heâd never admit it to anyone, especially himself, but he likes you.
âOkay, this one.â You say as you start pouring two shots of fireball. âBold choice.â Steve says confusingly as he watches you pour the shots. Steve puts his in the air for a cheers, âto new friends?â He bites his lip nervously. âDonât push it, Harrington.â You say as a smile accidentally creeps up onto your lips. You both shoot the hot liquor and surprisingly, you donât gag. You actually kind of like it. âMmmâŚâ you say under your breath as you finish the shot.
âYeah? That one better?â Steve asks you. His voice sounds like honey as he speaks after taking the spicy shot. âMuch.â You say as your nose scrunches up.
âHere.â Steve says as he mixes you a drink with the fireball in it. âItâll definitely take the edge off.â You take the cup from him, your fingers touching softly once again. âThanksâŚâ you say, a bit confused by this conversation with him. Someone you never felt youâd ever get along with. âIâm gonna go, uh, find Eddie. Nice chatâŚHarrington.â You turn around and curse at yourself for being so awkward. Is it the alcohol finally kicking in or is Steve Harrington actually⌠attractive?
As you sip on the drink Steve made you, you slowly start to notice the effects the alcohol is having on you. Having a dealer as a best friend means your usual choice at a party would be weed, which evidently made you a lightweight with alcohol. As people dance around the house and play drinking games around you, you find your vision growing blurry and canât quite think straight. You try to shake Eddie awake again but heâs still out of it.
âShitâŚâ you whisper to yourself as you stand up off of the couch but it seems like gravity wants to pull you right back down.
You finally catch your balance and start to make your way into the kitchen for some water but it seems like itâs miles away. Your body is just not functioning correctly. As you are about to fall over, a pair of hands find your arm, balancing you. You hum slightly as you look over at the person who caught you. âYou againnnn?â You groan in your drunken state when you notice itâs Steve. âI think I just saved your life, so maybe be more thankful, yeah?â He says jokingly with a laugh as he strengthens his grip on you to ensure you stand up straight.
You giggle, âWhat a humble soul you are, Steve Harrington.â You pull your face slightly in towards his, your drunken eyes scanning all over his slightly sober, caramel ones.
âI donât⌠feel good.â You say honestly in broken words as Steve starts walking you somewhere. âYeah I can see that, come on.â He pulls you into the bathroom near the kitchen and locks the door. âSit on the cold tile, itâll help.â He says softly as he helps you slowly sit on the floor. âIâll go get you some water, stay put.â
Steve quickly rushes out of the room and youâre left on the bathroom floor being the most confused youâve ever felt in your life. Is this real? No. This must be some drunk dream. Are drunk dreams a thing? You laugh to yourself on the floor, everything in the room spinning around you.
When Steve walks in, he sees the giggly expression on your face and cracks open the water bottle he brought you. âOh great, sheâs gone crazy.â He says with a laugh as he sits on the floor with you, handing you the water. A quiet, âThanksâŚâ leaves your lips as you lean your head against the wall, Steve sitting criss crossed in front of you.
âDoes it always feel this horrible?â You ask with a pout.
âNo. Just sometimes. Do you need any food?â
Just the thought of food makes you gag. âSorry⌠no, definitely not food.â You say. The world wonât stop spinning and you feel sicker and sicker every second that passes.
âItâs okay. We can just sit here until you feel better.â Steve smiles at you and you feel the world stop spinning for only a second.
âYouâre a mystery to me, Steve Harrington.â You match the smile on his face.
âGood.â Steve says as he puts the water bottle back in your hand. âSober up quickly. I just know sober you would never be here with me right now.â
This takes you aback. Even in your drunken state. âWh-whatâs that supposed to mean?â Your broken words come out slowly as you sip on the water.
Steve laughs as he runs his hand through his hair. Butterflies. You shake your head at your thoughts.
âI donât think you like me very much.â He looks at you still smiling, but his tone is slightly different than usual.
âThatâs not true.â Your face contours into a pout. Youâre so drunk you canât even try to think about how to respond. âI-I like you⌠youâre, cool, I guess.â You shrug your shoulders. Steve laughs again.
âOkay, maybe not a conversation for you to have right now.â He says as he stands up and grabs some anti nausea pills from the medicine cabinet. âTry and swallow these. Youâll feel a lot better, I promise.â
You nod and take them quickly so you donât make yourself more sick. âYouâre a good person, Steve Harrington. I donât know why Iâve never seen it before.â
Steve squats down to your level and pushes a piece of hair behind your ear. âMaybe I can show you when youâre sober, too.â
Summary: After the night of Tinaâs Halloween Party, Steve Harrington rarely stepped foot into parties. When you ask Steve to come to your 18th birthday party, he refuses, and you spend the whole night only thinking about him. (Kinda but kinda not based on 5 Seconds of Summerâs song âYou Donât Go to Partiesâ).

A/N: I have tried to post this FIC for DAYS! Iâm hoping that today is my lucky day and itâll finally post :( happy reading!
You and Steve Harrington met your freshman year of high school and were inseparable until your Senior year rolled around. Steve became distant from you, it was like you were watching him become a whole new person from afar and it broke your heart. Was it Nancy Wheelerâs fault? No, no it couldnât be. Nancy was too kind to change the Steve you used to know into the âKing Steveâ that now rules the school.
Though, this new Steve Harrington always intrigued you. He always seemed to have played the part of a mean popular kid, instead of actually being one. It was like he was an actor on stage whenever he was around his friends, begging for it to come to an end and that curtain call was near so he could be applauded for his performance. You could see right through his facade.
You watched the argument play out between Steve and Nancy the night of Halloween at Tinaâs party. Her demanding to keep drinking as Steve begged her to stop. You watched them from a distance, just as you had been for the past year. You watched as Nancyâs girl next door white sweater got covered in red punch, as she ran for the bathroom upstairs with Steve following close behind. You didnât eavesdrop, it was none of your business what they were going through.
When Steve walked out of the bathroom, you grabbed his wrist and Steve flinched at your touch.
âWhat the fuck? Can I help you?â Steve spat at you, he was drunk and confused. You could tell he wanted nothing to do with you, yet you made it a point that you wanted to talk to him, âAre you okay? Iâve never seen a tear leave King Steveâs eyes before.â Steve rolled his eyes at you, âThatâs because you donât actually know âKing Steveâ,â he scoffed and your face softened. He was right, you didnât, not anymore. âThen show me.â Steve let out a chuckle, only allowing air to leave his nose as a slight smirk appeared on his face. He dragged you into a nearby room and sat you two down on the bed.
You were shocked to have been sitting so close to him. You could feel his breath on your face and the tears welling up in his eyes were shining in the dim lighting of the room. âAre- Are you okay, Steve?â Steve was looking into your eyes and you could see the conflict behind them. âLove sucks,â Steve started whispering, âWhy does it hurt so bad?â Your heart clenched. Truth is, you loved Steve. Maybe you allowed him to distance himself from you when he started dating Nancy. It hurt too bad to watch him be with someone that wasnât you. âLove doesnât suck, Stevie. It- fuck, sometimes it has to hurt so that you know that love is still there. Itâs what makes youâŚfight for it.â You pulled your hand up to Steveâs face and wiped the thick tear that was falling down his cheek, âWhat happened to us?â Steve said between his drunk whimpers.
You scoffed, âLove.â
It had been a few months since that night. Steve makes it a point to make eye contact with you in the halls, though never says anything to you. You want to say something. Maybe rekindle the friendship that you two once had, but you just couldnât. You had hoped you would bump into Steve at another party. Where your drunk minds could spill everything that you wanted to say to one another. But Steve hasnât been at one party since Halloween. You would sit on the couch in the living room of every house, foot tapping nervously on the floor awaiting the entrance of the King of Parties, and he would never show.
Your birthday was coming up and you hoped and hoped that Steve would show up to your birthday bash. You were popular enough for people to pass out fliers for your party, and with a little confidence, you walked up to Steve with the bright pink flier and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and his eyebrows furrowed, confused by your presence.
âH-hi.â You choked out, Steve looked at you then at the flier in your hand then back up to your eyes. âHey.â That was all he said back. You cleared your throat as you handed him the flier, âI wanted to give this to you. Myâ-
âYour birthday is coming up, I know. Youâll be 18. Sick.â Steve interrupted you. You nodded your head hopeful that this means you two could spend time together at your party, but Steve retaliated by shaking his head. âIâm sorry, I-I canât go.â Your stomach dropped. Why not? Steve started walking away from you and you scoffed. âYou canât whine about Halloween forever, ya know? Get over it, Harringtonâ You spat out at Steve. You had never talked to him like that. You watched as Steve stopped in his tracks, he stood there for a second as your heartbeat fastened, and you felt like you were going to pass out.
Steve didnât know how to react. He fought with his inner conflict, trying to decide whether he should fight with you or not but he thought that the look on your face when he told you no was enough pain to leave you with, and he began to walk away again.
You felt enraged and for the first time ever, you felt like a heartless monster.
It was finally your birthday night, and you tried everything to forget about Steve not coming to your party. You were sitting on your vanity chair, applying a beautiful face of makeup as you could feel yourself holding back tears.
âI can see those tears brewing in your eyes from a mile away, you better stop.â You heard come from behind you when you saw your best friend Robin walk into the room with a bouquet of flowers. âHappy Birthday my sweet friend,â Robin said as she came and hugged you from behind in your chair.
This allowed you to take your mind off of Steve. You met Robin not too long ago in your Math class. She was a year below you and really was a genius, though she would never admit that. Robin and you got close because she was open with you about how much she didnât like Steve, and your friendship brewed over late-night talks about the boy. You told her everything. How close you were and how you think you were in love with him. She would always make disgusted faces at you because of it, but she was there for you nonetheless.
âIf you are crying over Harrington Iâm going to shove these flowers right up your a-â You stopped her before she could continue. âRobin, please, I donât cry over that boy anymore. Iâm just feeling a little overwhelmed about tonight.â You lied right through your teeth, though it was a good enough one for your friend to believe you. She sighed and sat down on the edge of your bed. âThere is nothing to worry about, Y/N. You look great and youâre going to have an amazing time tonight, okay?â You nodded your head at her, stood up, and was ready to take on the night.
Robin was right, you were having a great time. That was until 3 a.m rolled around and everyone was still partying. You were exhausted and no longer drunk. You sprawled out on your couch and watched as everyone continued dancing, partying, and playing games. You caught a glimpse of Robin in the hallway wobbling around, trying her hardest to dance with a girl that she met that night, and smiled. Suddenly, that smile started to fade as you wished a certain someone was there so you could be drunkenly dancing with them. His deep, caramelly brown eyes looking down at you as his soft pink lips sing along to the song playing. You just wanted Steve. You continued laying there, hoping for a miracle. You watched the door, imagining that Steve would be walking in at any moment. This is stupid, you thought to yourself. You knew Steve didnât go to parties anymore, why would he miraculously show up to yours?
You gave up and walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water. As you turned on the facet, you couldnât even hear the water running because of an uproar that started happening in your living room. People were cheering and hollering, even clapping. They must have finally finished that game of beer pong, you thought and sighed as you leaned up against the counter to take a sip of your water.
You could see your best friend trying her hardest to make her way toward you, she had the biggest smile on her face. You were expecting her to tell you she just had the best hookup of her life or something, but instead, Robin tripped over her words and said, âCome here, you have to see this!â She grabbed your hand and dragged you into the living room. There was a huge crowd in there and you could hear people saying âSteve?â, within it. You thought that you were hallucinating until you finally made it through and saw Steve playing the endless game of beer pong. You stood there in shock until Steve turned around. He smiled at you and looked back at his beer pong teammates, âSorry guys, I have some business to take care of.â He said and he started walking toward you, extending his hand out for you to take. You hesitated at first but felt Robin nudge you. If she approved, then you definitely did, so, you took Steveâs hand as he dragged you down to your basement, giggling like a little girl.
âWhat are you doing here?â You questioned through laughter. He shrugged his shoulders and had a slight smirk on his face, âCouldnât miss my sweet girlâs birthday could I?â Your heart skipped a beat at the nickname that Steve had always used for you. You hadnât heard it in a while. This moment felt like a fever dream, you were so happy to see Steve that you almost forgot how late it was.
âQuite a late arrival donât you think?â Your smile faded a little, and Steve noticed this. He sighed and grabbed your arms, âI know, I know. To be honest, I stared at that little flier you gave me all night, deciding whether or not to come. I decided it would be better to show up late than not show up at all.â You nodded, agreeing that it was indeed better.
âWhy have you disappeared, Stevie? I thought that partying was your thing.â He tilted his head up and stared at the ceiling then back down at you, âHeartbreak does that to a person, Y/N.â Heartbreak. Thatâs when you realized. Nancy broke Steveâs heart the night of Halloween. You hadnât seen them together since that night and the whole school was talking about Nancy always being in Jonathan Byerâs car. You wished you couldâve been there for Steve the past few months and didnât know what to say. You just hugged him, the tightest hug you could give. His embrace felt like a warm blanket. He grabbed your head and rubbed his hands through your hair, he missed your touch. âIâm sorry.â You said into his chest. He let out a chuckle. âHey, sometimes love has to hurt,â He copied your words from the night of Halloween. You removed your head from his chest and looked up at him as he cupped your cheek. âBut ours doesnât.â And with that, he pulled you to his face and kissed your lips as softly as he could, cherishing the moment. When he pulled away, he looked into your eyes, and whispered, âHappy birthday, sweet girl.â

A/N: THIS CHAPTER TOOK FOREVER BUT ITS MY FAVORITE ONE đđ if you would like to be a part of the tag list, lemme know! happy reading! <3
Steve was nice enough to walk me back to my car once I was calmed down to drive. He was so⌠gentle with me. The walk was silent, but not uncomfortable. It was similar to the silence I have with Eddie at times. Itâs just peaceful. When we got back to my car, Steve grabbed my arm. I flinched a little bit, I wasnât used to his touch. âYouâre gonna be alright, yeah? The kids are hanging out at the school. Dustin says they have AV club every day, so Iâm counting on them being there,â I nodded, âIâll be fine, Steve. The school is not too far. Iâll honk at you if there is a problem.â He gave me a soft nod before letting go of my arm. âOkay, Iâll see you soon. Follow close behind!â He said while walking away towards his car. âYou act like I donât know where the school is!â I yell out to him, but all he did was wave his hand at me signaling a âyeah yeahâ without even turning around. I sighed as I entered my car. I sat there for a minute, allowing myself to zone out and just think for the first time since I ran out of the locker room. I felt as if life wasnât real. I remember feeling this way the night that I got my dreadful scar, and somehow the feeling was stronger. I wanted more time to gather my thoughts but Steve started honking his horn, indicating he was getting impatient with me. I blinked rapidly to come back to reality, let out a heavy sigh, and put my car into drive.
As I drove to school, following the tail of Steveâs lover (his car), I thought about what these kids that Steve was bringing me to had to do with any of this. I knew that Will Byers went missing last year, he was the talk of the town, you had to be living under a rock to not know that he was gone. But somehow, he has even more people talking about him now that he was found alive and well. I remember the headlines in the newspaper: âThe body of missing child Will Byers found in the local quarryâ were plastered everywhere. And then, last year on the night that we battled the demogorgan, he was found. The town didnât know how to explain it and letâs just say Hawkins isnât the nicest to outcasts. I hear the words âzombie boyâ being thrown around every day to describe the young boy, and it breaks my heart. Iâve talked to him a few times. There were many days that I would be hanging out with Nancy and hear her younger brother Mike and his friends down in the basement of their house. It was a comforting sound. The laughter of a group of friends who were like brothers. It was nice.
I missed the days that Mike would hug me goodbye when I would leave the Wheelerâs home. He would pull my arm down so my ear was at his level and whisper âI wish you were my sister too,â and it always tugged at my heart. I grew up without siblings, so seeing those boys meant everything to me. I hadnât seen them for over a year and couldnât stop thinking about how awkward this conversation at the school might become. Like, âHey Mike, how are you? Hope all is well, oh this scar? Super cool, huh? Oh, also I have powers now!â Yep, sounds like it's going to be a great conversation.
All of these thoughts allowed my drive back to the school to go quickly, and I was parking next to Steveâs car in no time. As I turned off my car and got out, Steve followed and did the same.
âSee Stevie, I made it here with no scratches,â I said in a sarcastic tone, mocking how worried he was about me driving only a few moments ago.
âHm, no new scars either?â Steve said as he looked over my face and body. My face dropped as I rolled my eyes, âDonât push it, Harrington,â I said as I closed my car door and began walking towards the school and Steve followed my lead. âHey you know Iâm only joking Y/N,â he looked at me with sympathy behind his eyes, âMmhmm,â was all I could mutter out before Steve interrupted me.
âBy the way, I do remember you taking me home last night,â my head shot up to look at him as I stopped in my tracks thinking that earlier he was lying just to get a reaction out of me, Steve could tell I looked offended, âbu-but only in pieces. I started remembering when I was driving into the woods. Itâs allâŚreally blurry but I remember you giving me a blanket? Did you do that?â I nodded. âOkay, yeah, so I do remember. JustâŚnot a lot,â he seemed almost ashamed for not knowing what happened last night but I couldnât blame him. I knew this would happen, and yet I still got upset. Part of me wanted him to know every detail of what happened last night to see if what he was saying was true, and so, like word vomit I said âYou called me beautiful,â his eyes widened, âohâ he whispered under his breath. Ew. I hated this. I wasnât trying to have a sentimental moment with him, I had enough of those with Steve Harrington for one day, but I needed him to know. I needed to lighten up the mood. I started walking again, letting him know everything was fine, âYeah you started crying like a lilâ baby, said sorry multiple times about calling me scar face at the party, and uh told me I was beautiful,â Steve started laughing, âyeah that uh, sounds like intoxicated me for sure,â I started laughing with him, âletâs just say even though it wasnât for you, it was quite the memorable night for me,â
âOh yeah I bet! Not every girl gets the luxury of a night alone with the one and only. AND I called you a term of endearment? Phew, Nance better not find out,â he said in his cheeky little voice that he did as he put his hands up in surrender. I was about to come back with something snarky when I saw a young girl with beautiful auburn hair sitting outside the AV club room. She stood up super fast when she saw us approaching the door, âDo you know them? Those stupid boys?!â She asked us frantically. Steve and I looked at each other, eyebrows furrowed, then back at the girl, âIf you mean Dustin and the other dummies then yeah, we are here to talk to them,â Steve said to the girl. She looked irritated and sighed, âWell good luck, they wonât let me in and if they let you in I swear,â Steve scoffed and knocked on the door and the boys voices behind the door fell silent until a âWHAT MAX?â Came out of one of their mouths. Mike. I could recognize that voice anywhere.
âWhat? No. Look, itâs Steve. I have Y/N with me, we need to talk to you guys,â Steve was yelling through the door to ensure the boys could hear him. âY/N? As in Y/F/N Y/L/N?â I heard Mike question through the door before all three of us outside could hear the boyâs panicked fidgeting, and within a few seconds the door flew open and revealed an anxious looking Dustin as he fanned us all into the room and was muttering lots of âquickâs and âhurryâs. After we all scurried into the room, Dustin slammed the door behind us, and locked it as quickly as he could. Steve walked in first and went around the table that was in the middle of the room. He was standing across from me, along with Mike and Will. We all stood in a circle around the table, but Dustin was standing behind me in order to guard the door.
âAmazing timing, douchebag. Just so you know, we only opened that door for Y/N, not you, Harrington.â Mike spit out at Steve. Steve made a face to indicate that he was offended as he took a step back, âOuch Wheeler, so much pent up anger in such a little body.â Mike squinted his eyes and put a fake smile on his face to mock Steve as I stepped in âWe arenât here to fight,â I looked at Steve and then back at Mike who now looked like a dog with its tail between their legs, âLook, something is happening and Steve thinks that you guys are the only ones that can help me.â They all looked at me, Dustin and Will looked concerned as Mike looked at all of his friends before saying âW-well what is it?â I looked at Steve, he could feel how nervous I was from across the table that was between us, he nodded his head at me, indicating an âitâs okayâ. I took a long beat before looking back at Mike and saying âWe think I have powersâŚâ Steve scoffed at my lousy confession âTHINK? No, no. This girl almost just killed me with that shit. We know she has powers.â He said as he looked at me and pointed at my hands. Lucas was the first one to speak up as he rolled his eyes, âOh, come on. Y/N you have nothing to do with any of this. And, if you did have powers, where were you last year when we all needed help?â Mike looked upset that Lucas would question me and he hit Lucas on the arm and said, âShe wouldnât just lie, Lucas. Give her a chance to explain herself. Maybe she could show us?â Mikeâs sentence ended as if he was asking me to show them at this very moment.
âNO,â Steve and I both yelled at the same time, âI-I mean⌠no I canât. I quickly tried to calm my voice, âI canât risk hurting you kids, plus I donât even know how to use them. The feeling only comes at certain times. I-I donât know how to control it.â I admitted while looking back and forth at all the eyes on me in the room. Will looked at me with soft eyes filled with sympathy and said, âWell, thereâs gotta be something that triggers them, right? What does it feel like when you feel them coming?â This made me think for a minute until my eyes shot up to look at Steve, and then back at the kids. Steve looked confused at my sudden eye contact with him. âItâs always when Iâm around um, Steve.â I didnât want to say it, but it was the truth. My powers were only triggered when I was around, or thinking about Steve Harrington. âThatâs disgusting.â I heard Dustin say from behind me. âNo, no not in that way, gross. Itâs when he pisses me off. Look, the first time I ever felt like that was last night. Iâve felt tingles in my fingertips before but nothing more. I took Steve home last night because he was drunk, so drunk in fact that he called me Nancy and thatâs when I felt the tingles for the first time. But, they went away quick enough for me to not think anything of it,â I went on to tell them all the other times that Steve riled me up enough to trigger a reaction like that, and then told them about what happened in the woods. âRed? Just like, exploded out of you?â The auburn haired girl questioned, âLike-Like the Scarlet Witch in X-Men?â Dustin said with so much amusement in his voice that I couldnât tell if he was excited or mocking me. Lucas scoffed. âNo way, the Scarlet Witch isnât real, and she is way too powerful to exist.â
I looked over at Mike to see if he had anything else to say. âEl was powerful too, ya know? We didnât believe her at first, we canât make the same mistake with Y/N.â All of his friends looked at him, at Steve, and then at me. Everyone was staring at me until the weird box that the boys had on the table started moving. âOh, shitâ Dustin said as he went to grab it but Lucas smacked his hand and shook his head aggressively at him. Steve stepped forward, âWhatcha boys hiding in there, huh?â
âNo-nothing!â They all said in unison as the girl holding her skateboard rolled her eyes. Mike picked up the microphone on the table and held it up like a weapon as the box fell on its side. âDonât hurt him!â Dustin said. Him? âOnly if he attacks.â Mike responded. âGuys, what is in that box?â I questioned as Steve came from around the table to stand by my side. âJust open it already!â Lucas yelled. âYou idiots, what is in there?!â Steve asked affirmatively, demanding an answer. Dustin rolled his eyes, grabbed a little remote from the table, and opened the box to reveal a slimy, tiny looking creature. âHolyâŚshit.â Lucas, Steve, and I all said in unison. The creature started to crawl towards Dustin and in front of the 7 pairs of eyes in the room, sprouted an extra set of legs. âOh, shit!â Lucas screamed as Mike went to hit the tiny monster with the microphone. But, he missed and the creature started running towards the closed door. I donât know what came over me, it wasnât Steve this time but suddenly all the kids' attention left the creature, as they all looked at me. Steve grabbed my shoulders and stepped in front of me to hide me from the kids.
âY/N, your eyes, stop.â I started to blink rapidly to try and get it to go away but that thing was still in the room with us and I was terrified. It was like my arm had a mind of its own as it flew upwards towards the door, and the same red glowing ball of energy that hit the tree in the woods earlier, came out of my palms and caused the door to the AV club to fling open, allowing the creature to escape. âY/N, snap out of it, look at me.â Steve shook me a little bit as I blinked one last time, looked at him, then at the kids in the room with me and just whispered âIâm so sorryâŚâ but the boys had already started running towards the creature before I finished getting my words out. âWhat was that?â Steve asked, still holding onto my shoulders. âDart!â Mike yelled, annoyed. âAnd because you brought her here, he escaped.â Mike was never hostile towards me, it was a terrible feeling to see him upset with me. âWell, why did you attack him?!â Dusting argued with Mike. Mike ignored his question as he yelled a quick, âCome on!â to his friends and we watched them all split up to look forâŚDart.

warnings: just some cussing here and there, nothing bad though. sick reader, sappy steve. I think thatâs it :)
A/N: I wrote this cause Iâm sick right now and would kill to have a hug from Steve Harrington. Hope you all enjoy, happy reading. :)
It was a cold winter day with cloudy skies and was forecasted to rain all day long. This was a day that you would usually take advantage of. Cuddle up by the window with your favorite blanket, hot chocolate beside you with your favorite book in hand. But no, not today. When you woke up, you felt like complete and utter shit. You would usually be okay with feeling a little under the weather, but this time was different. Your family members had already left for the day, leading their busy lives and you knew you couldnât call your parents and ask one of them to come take care of you. So, you took a lucky shot and called the local video store, Family Video, to see if either of your beloved best friends were working and if they could point you in the right direction of the other. It was rare that Steve and Robin both worked the same shift on a weekday, so you were hoping that today was one of those occasions.
As the phone rang, you whispered under your breath that you hoped Robin was the one who picked up. As much as you loved her and enjoyed her company, you wanted the comfort of Steve Harrington more than anything at that moment. To your surprise, as if the universe answered your prayers, you hear a very bored voice pick up the phone, âThank you for calling Family Video, Iâm Robin, how can I help you?â Oh thank god. âRobin, itâs me, Y/N,â you could immediately hear the tone in Robinâs voice change and you could hear her smiling through the phone. âDingus number two! How are you? You donât sound like yourself. Everything okay?â She questioned you as you could hear concern behind her excited tone. âNo, actually. I woke up this morning and I feel so sick. I donât know, I think I have a fever? Iâm home alone and I was hoping that you or Steve werenât working so you could come help me?â I could hear her giggle over the phone, âOh donât sound so helpless yet Y/N, yeah Iâm working but Steve is off today! How about you call him at home? Iâve got customers staring me down like theyâre gonna kill me if I donât help them soon.â She said between her teeth. You let out a heavy sigh of relief. âY-yeah, Iâll call Steve, thank you, Robin, love you.â Your voice was soft, thankful that this phone call went exactly as you wanted it to. âNo problem, feel better, yeah? IâLL BE RIGHT WITH YOU, okay I gotta go, I love you too. Byeeeee.â You heard your phone line beep, indicating that Robin ended the call and you started dialing Steveâs number.
âHello?â A very groggy voice comes from the other end. âS-Steve? Itâs Y/N, did I wake you?â Steveâs voice changed when he heard your voice the same way that Robinâs did only a few minutes ago. âHey, you! I may or may not have been asleep still,â he sighed, almost embarrassed that he was sleeping. You laughed. âItâs okay, Stevie,â before you could finish what you were saying, Steve interrupted you. âAre you okay? You sound sick.â He must have heard your voice that is currently much deeper than your natural voice is. Tears started to form in your eyes as you realized how sick you actually felt. âN-no. Are you busy today? I feel like shit, I donât think I could even get up to get water right now.â Steveâs heart cracked with every word you spoke, âHey, hey donât cry, itâll only make it worse. Thereâs no way Iâm gonna let my girl dehydrate okay? Iâll be there in ten and donât cry anymore!â You heard the phone hang up and sighed, you felt at peace knowing Steve was going to be by your side soon.
Knock knock knock. Steve got to your house in a perfect 10 minutes and waited at your door in the rain until you managed to get out of bed. His palms were wet holding a bouquet of flowers for you that were from his momâs garden. He couldnât tell if it was from the rain or how sweaty his palms were at the moment. You made him so nervous. After all these years, King Steve just couldnât get over how in love he was with you, though heâd never admit it. Robin and Dustin have tried countless times to trick him into a confession, but he has never given in. He loved you too much to allow himself to ruin the relationship the two of you already had. He couldnât imagine a life without you in it, even if that meant you couldnât be his. You finally opened up the door and felt like you looked pathetic. Steve smiled at you and you heard the smallest âoh, babyâ leave his lips as he walked inside and pulled you into a hug. The hug was so warm, it was everything you needed. When he let go, you missed his touch instantly and then you saw the flowers in his hands. âOh, Stevie, theyâre beautiful! A shame I canât smell them right now.â You pout, wishing your day with Steve was under different circumstances.
âIâll put them in a vase, you go sit down and get under a blanket, I can see your goosebumps from a mile away.â Steve said as he pointed to the couch in your living room. You nodded your head in agreement and walked towards the couch. But, as you did, Steve couldnât keep his eyes off of you. The way you wobbled and moved so slowly in order to make it to the couch. Why arenât you helping her? Steve cursed himself out from under his breath as he quickly filled up a vase with water and plopped the flowers in it. âDo you need anything before I come sit down with you? How about that water you mentioned on the phone?â Steve asked as he peeked his head around the corner, with all your might you were able to push out a âyes please.â and Steveâs head disappeared from behind the wall and in only a few seconds he was back with a glass full of cold ice water.
Steve sat the cup down on the coffee table in front of you before he found his spot next to you on the couch. You started to sit up to make room for him but he shook his head, âNo, no baby, here, lay your head on my lap.â You gladly followed his directions and got comfortable on Steveâs lap and his hands found your hair immediately and started brushing his fingers through it. âThank god you came Steve, I almost called the kids. I was desperate.â Steve chuckled, âThe last thing you need right now is a bunch of boys running around your house. Can you even imagine Dustin trying to help someone thatâs sick??â You laughed with him, âNo, but I think Will and Max could manage. Maybe even El. Oh what Iâd do to have powers like that girl. I couldâve just used some cool telekinesis to make myself a glass of water.â Steve let out a tiny laugh, the one where only air comes out of your nose,
âBut then I wouldnât be here.â Your heart skipped a beat. He was right. As much as you didnât want to be a burden to your friends, the company of your best friend was like no other. âThank you for coming, Steve, I really needed this.â He smiled down at you âanything for my girl.â Steve Harrington knew exactly how to give you butterflies, and you did the same to him. He thought you looked ethereal right now in his lap and wished that he could take a picture of you. Though, he didnât really need it because every moment like this with you sticks into that boyâs head. He wanted to tell you how he felt about you right then and there, it would be perfect, he thought to himself, but when he opened his mouth to speak, you beat him to it. âYouâre so good to me, Stevie,â he couldâve shed a tear at your words, âI truly donât deserve it.â Steve shook his head, âNo, Y/N, you deserve the world.â You two stared into each otherâs eyes for a few moments until Steve accidentally said it, the forbidden words that should have never left his lips
âI love you,â he froze. He didnât mean to say them, âlike, like as friends ya know, like love ya, cause we have known each other so long and you and Robin say it to each other andâ- You were smiling the biggest, cheekiest smile ever and cut your best friend off, âI love you too, Steve.â And with just those words, Steveâs body finally relaxed under you, âYou-you do? Like in the way you love Robin? Or a, I donât know, a different way?â You managed to push yourself up off of Steveâs lap so you were sitting next to him, face to face, faces closer than they ever have been before.
âOh Steve Harrington, if I wasnât so sick I would kiss you right now just to shut you up,â You said through laughter. Steve looked at you in shock and you were waiting for him to say something as you grabbed his hand and interlocked your fingers with his. âYes, Steve, I love you in a different way.â And there was the confirmation he needed, he didnât care that you were sick, he cupped your face in his hands and crashed his lips onto yours. The kiss was eager, but soft at the same time. He was trying to be as gentle as possible with you, but you could feel how long he had been waiting to do this. When he finally pulled away, you were able to catch your breath. âGreat, now youâll be sick.â You said, Steve rested his forehead on yours, smiled and said, âI donât care.â

A/N: hi!! Iâm so so sorry this took so long to get out. I was on a lil vacay for thanksgiving. I hope you all love this chapter, I know I do. If you enjoy, please let me know if you would like to be tagged in future chapters. happy reading <3
I had no idea where I was going. After what Steve and I saw in the mirror, I ran to my car, and left school. I had never ditched school before, but I had to get out of there. What if it happened again? And if it does happen again, when? Whatever it is. What the fuck was happening to me. I started to sob uncontrollably as I drove into the woods. I parked my car in the middle of nowhere, and flung the door open as I ran out of the car. My lungs craved fresh air as I started to hyperventilate from the panic attack that I had induced myself into. I dropped to my knees, and as I did, I felt the prickly feeling of the needles from earlier, but it was everywhere. My nerves were on fire. I leaned forward to place my hands on the ground to gain some balance, my arms felt weak and I almost collapsed to the floor, and when my hands hit the ground, all the dirt and leaves from underneath my palms were pulsed away as a glowing ripple of vivid red energy expelled from underneath my hands. I froze in place just staring at my hands on the ground. Did I do that? I slowly leaned back up as I turned my hands over to stare at my palms. I started shaking. My eyes were peeled open with shock and tears were still streaming down my face, âPowers,â I heard from behind me. I turned around so fast I couldâve given myself whiplash.
There stood a girl, around the age of the youngest Byer and his friends staring at me. âW-What?â Was all I was able to stutter out. âLike me,â I was so confused. Who is this? The little girl walked towards me, held her hand out for me to grab, and I took it as I stood up. âYouâŚYouâre not scared?â I asked. This small gesture made me feel at peace. I was finally able to take a deep breath, It felt like she was my guardian angel. âNo,â she shook her head. I cracked a smile at her. âSchool,â she said and I titled my head to the side âSchool? Are you looking for the school?â She nodded. I donât even know how long I had been driving, we could be miles away from the school. âI, uh- I donât know how far we are but the school is in that direction,â I pointed to where I came from as she let go of my hand, she smiled and said âBye,â and she started walking in the direction that I pointed. I watched as the curly-headed girl made her way to the school. I felt a strong breeze against the back of my neck, and in only a moment my whole body was covered in goosebumps. A feeling I had grown used to this past year. I sat back down in front of the uncovered earth spot I had made moments ago, listening to the sounds of the woods. It was the first time I had felt calm all day. I looked back down at my palms and my gaze blurred. I zoned out looking at the hands I didnât recognize only a few minutes before. I heard a twig snap next to me and when I looked to see what it was, of course, it was my favorite person in the whole world looking back at me.
âGod, what do you want, Steve? Havenât you done enough?â I started getting teary again. Steve shook his hands and his head at me âNo, no, no donât cry, pleaseâ. He got down to my level and sat with me, but I scooted away. âOkay, I deserve that,â I looked at him, âWhatâd you do, follow me here? Wanted to make fun of the freak some more? How about you call me scar face one more time?â Steve was shocked. âWhat, NO, no. I mean yes, I followed you here, but no not to make fun of you,â I looked away from him in fear that my eyes were going to look different again, and crossed my arms so I could tuck my hands away. We sat in silence as I waited to see what he was going to say. I wanted to be mean and tell him to fuck off, but there was a voice in the back of my head reminding me of all the nice things he said to me when he was drunk, and that he was nice enough to come check on me at this very moment. And then, my thought-filled brain decided to blurt out, âPlease just tell me why you hate me so much, Steve. Why would you rather have me bleed out on that terrible night last year than put me in your car? Why do you make fun of my scar every chance you get? I-I just want an answer,â I still wasnât looking at him, but I could still sense that Steveâs body tensed up. âY/N, I donât hate you. You just, God, now that I am saying it out loud, it isnât even you,â I finally looked up at him, âNotâŚme? What does that even mean Steve?â I said it with more annoyance than was intended, but I always seem to have this tone with Steve, so I guess itâs a habit. âLook, when Nancy and I first started dating, it was like you were always the topic of the conversation. It was Y/N this, and Y/N that. I could never just have a conversation with my girlfriend. And, before Barb went missing, Nancy always canceled on me for you. No matter how hard I tried to ignore it, it seemed like you were always in the background of our relationship, and I never was able to get close to Nancy because of you. I never meant to start being mean to you, but I could tell you didnât like me and that made me even madder. Like I should be the one that hates you, not the other way around,â I probably looked like a deer in headlights, all I could do was stare at him. I was too in shock to respond. And then, I laughed, and I couldnât stop. Steve frowned,
âWhy the fuck are you laughing, I just poured my heart out to you,â
âOh, Stevie, that is the same reason that I donât like you,â I watched as his frown turned into a smile, and he was trying to fight his laughter from escaping, but he let the laughter win. We both were just sitting on the ground, laughing with one another.
âThat is so stupid,â we both said. And, it was. We both were just jealous of one anotherâs relationship with Nancy Wheeler. Comical, was all I could think because of where Nancy and Iâs relationship stood now. Steve and Iâs laughter faded as Steve looked me in the eyes and I could see the seriousness behind his eyes. âOkay, I am not trying to be mean, I seriously just want to know, whatâŚwhat happened back there in the locker room?â I could tell he was choosing his words very carefully to not make me upset. I sighed and stood up off the ground, after dusting the back of my pants off I looked at him, âYour guess is as good as mine, Harrington. One minute Iâm feeling these, I donât know, tingles? Throughout my body and thenâŚyou tell me there is something wrong with my eyes,â I could feel myself growing anxious thinking about what had just happened and could feel those very tingles start to flow through my body.
My voice starts to rise, âAnd then, suddenly looking in that mirror-â I pointed towards the direction of the school but as I did, a bright orb of red left my hands and hit a tree next to me, I took a step back and I could hear Steve scurrying on the ground behind me, âHoly shit,â he says and he starts to walk towards me. I hugged my hands into my chest trying to hold myself together after seeing what just came out of me. Steve looked soâŚconcerned. Why doesnât he look scared? He should be terrified of me right now. I am terrified of myself. His eyes softened as he approached me with caution and grabbed my shoulders. He could feel how tense my body was as tears started streaming down my face.
âHey, hey, hey, youâre okay! I got you, youâre fine,â I wasnât fine, I was terrified of my own body, âSteve, I am NOT OKAYâ I uncrossed my arms as I flung them open and the scarlet-colored energy that left the bottom of my palms earlier left my whole body, and flung Steve to the ground. He started groaning from the pain of falling on his back and thenâŚnothing. Steve was just lying on the ground, limp. I killed him.
âOhâŚoh my god,â I ran to Steveâs side as I sat down beside him, âSteve, STEVE,â I was shaking his whole body as hard as I could, What am I gonna do? I canât tell anyone what happened here. But that girl saw me here. She is gonna tell the police she saw me at the scene of a murder. âpleaseâŚplease be okay,â I whispered underneath my breath between weeps. After a few seconds of no movement, I became desperate and yelled, âSTEVE HARRINGTON, PLEASE, wake up!â and the boy beneath me started laughing. I just stared at him with a blank expression on my face. No way this boy was making a sick joke at a time like this. âFuck you, you jerk!âA chuckle escaped at the end of my sentence as I shoved his shoulder. âOh my god, I got you so good, Y/N! You were actually worried about me,â Steve continued to laugh as I wiped the tears off of my face. He stood up off of the ground and held a hand out for me. âShut up,â I said with a smirk as he picked me up from the dirt. Thank god the boy wasnât actually dead, the last thing I needed was to become a murderer. âI thought I actually killed you, Steve,â he chuckled, âyou canât get rid of me that easily Y/L/N,â
I enjoyed this moment with him, but once our laughter died down, I realized that maybe I could have killed him just then. I donât know how to control whatâs happening to me, my smile faded as I spoke, âSteve, Iâm scared,â I crossed my arms over my chest again as I looked at him. This caused his smile to fade too, âyou donât need to be scared, look I think I have some kids that you need to talk to,â I tilted my head, confused why he is mentioning kids, âYou know Jonathonâs little brother and his friends?â I nodded, âWell, they have a lot more to do with what happened last year than what Nancy and I led on, I think they could really help you,â Honestly, at this point, I could take any help that I could get, even if it is from twelve-year-old boys. âOkay, yeah, lead the wayâ.
