Compilation of information on Valve's unreleased upcoming game Deadlock! Formerly titled as Neon Prime and before that Citadel. I put everything under the cut because it is long and I don't want people to see leaks/spoilers that they don't want to (if Valve actually uses this game).
This is most known information and I will update it or do additional posts as things come out. Things are rapidly being leaked and found so I may be slow on updates but either way I hope you all can get the jist of what's happening.
Sources as always are linked in the text. My primary sources are Gabe Follower on Twitter, Tyler McVicker's Youtube video and Tyler McVicker's Discord server discussions.
Valve's in-development game Neon Prime has allegedly been retitled to "Deadlock". There have been alpha testers leaking information about it and we have various screenshots and gameplay footage now. Deadlock originally was in the Half-Life universe but has since been switched to being an original fantasy IP due to negative feedback from players. In short its a 6 person PvP game similar to TF2's style but with DotA-esque characters/settings and character writing similar(ish?) To Left 4 Dead or TF2 (in my opinion- as they are described as having a bit of personality (although one leaker said it's a bit boring so far- some others liked it though)).
Here is a summary of what Deadlock is from the user Gabe Follower.
He later posted that he would refrain from updating anymore information due to the game being in such early stages and the rest of the leaks are still publicly online.
Here are the initial leaked screenshots. Note that these screenshots are from early-ish in development and NOT what you'll see on release. These are from what is likely an alpha version of the game which is being given out to play-testers, it is nowhere near complete. These images originated from people on 4chan talking about the beta testing.
Someone AI upscaled one of the images as well if you'd like to see it in a somewhat higher definition.
I found leaked images of some characters too (the rest will be shown in the video leak), I found them from @deadlockintel on twitter. The account frequently updates information and it's pretty interesting! They definitely have stuff I haven't reported here.
And this photo from @Vox_Noctem on Twitter of the Deadlock home-screen.
Now for the leaked footage. The TF2 streamer Uncle Dane had access to Deadlock playtesting and streamed it to a group on discord around the beginning of May. Someone screen-recorded that and it was leaked on the 22nd. Uncle Dane has since been removed from Deadlock's playtesting. The reveal of this video spiraled many of the other images you see posted online about the game.
This video is showing off the Hero Training/Hero Playground feature which lets you go onto an empty map and mess with character abilities.
Reportedly Dane says the gameplay feels dated.
The streamer XQC is also revealing tidbits about the game. I found these statements from him compiled by a discord user, again from the Tyler Mcvicker Discord server:
May 10th: Let it be known that I’m currently involved in a top-secret NDA project, chat.
May 11th: There’s an NDA game involving many people that I’m part of, and I’m surprised it hasn’t leaked yet, but I won’t discuss it.
May 17th: Did a Valve NDA game leak? I have no connection to it and no knowledge about the situation.
May 22nd: Valve's 3rd person shooter MOBA leaked? Yeah, I have seen some of this. I'm surprised they did not show the regular map. While I won’t contribute to the leaks, notice that the bottom right corner of the screen remains empty. During regular gameplay, there’s usually a map with 4 lanes there. Right now, as you can see, the map is at the top, gentlemen. Anyway.
So far there are 19 heros to choose from in game. As reported by Insider Gaming, the character names are:
Abrams – A gargoyle-demon like character
Bebop – A Red robot with what looks like a missing eye
Dynamo – Another robot
Grey Talon – A Native American character with a long-range bow
Haze – An assassin
Infernus – A fast assassin focusing on fire damage
Ivy – An Imp healer
Kelvin – A character that specializes in ice
Lady Geist – A life stealer
Lash – A warrior
McGinnis – A welder or blacksmith
Mo & Krill – A monkey and pig duo
Paradox
Pocket
Seven
Vindicta – A vampire-looking sniper
Warden – A police officer
Wraith – An early 1900’s gangster who “excels at one-on-one combat”
Yamato – A samurai-looking character
Insider Gaming had a previous article on gameplay footage sent directly to them that they were unable to share (this is most likely the Uncle Dane footage that then got leaked further to more people. Reportedly from dramaalert on Twitter- the video in full is 18 minutes long. We don't know if that's true and only part of it was leaked or if it's false information). Insider Gaming reports that the game is officially described as an “early development build with lots of experimental gameplay features and art assets". One of the goals of the game is to collect souls you get from killing other players, these souls are used as an in-game currency. There is also a non-playable boss that spawns in the middle of the map. They also confirmed everything else Gabe Follower said.
Taken by a user on the TMV discord server, they compiled many of the 4chan remarks on gameplay and other things. This is as recent as May 22nd. Read them all (so far) here and here. (The images have horrendous quality when I upload them here so it's only part of one image that I'm showing).
Random note about the 4chan thread- they say TF2 voice actors are definitely in it and someone compared a character to sounding like Cave Johnson. Valve tends to rehire voice actors so this would make sense if TF2's cast was in it (I don't think JK Simmons is in this due to his mainstream popularity/Valve tends to hire out of Seattle, where they're located. But there could definitely be a voice that's similar to him).
Many people think the game will be announced this summer due to previous Valve games leaking (such as Dota Underlord's, Artifact, and Counter-Strike 2) pushing the games to release or be announced faster. Personally I don't think they'll reveal it anytime soon as people thought Valve was going to release it November 2023 during The International's and it never happened. Frequently their projects are delayed (due to community labeled "Valve Time"), sometimes causing them to be cancelled or pushed in another direction and take longer.
