Another double spread from my Backhanded Compliments artists book! So happy with the framing of this image, I’ve been messing with colours most of the day and have settled on this one. Hopefully the contrast between pages isn’t too great a jump.

A double page spread from my Backhanded Compliments book series. Pretty darn happy with this page, still not completely fine with the type- wanting the box in somewhere was priority but I feel like it makes more of a statement without. I’m going to speak to my tutor on Monday and get some opinions.

I want to keep something similar in all of the pages, so after the last spread I made I wanted to go back to this one and see if i could get it to co-ordinate somehow. Trying to find a colour for the box that fits right, any feedback is welcome!

Backhanded ‘compliments’ page.

Little teaser for some of the pages I’ve got together this week. This is potentially one of my finals, so I’ll post the full image once i’ve made the decision and/or completed the full book.

I’ve been experimenting with some layouts on photoshop, combining the paintings I’ve got with some of the first backgrounds and I’m really excited about the outcomes! They’re coming soon so keep an eye out! I intend to put some of my text together first and then I’ll post a little teaser.

Thinking about continuing the theme of mirrors for a few pages. I’m really excited to see how these sketches look with my paintings.

I’m (sort of) back!

Two backgrounds I’ve started getting sketched up for the book!

I was worried that the images were going to become flat and repetitive, so to create more depth and variety I hope to use these.

I’m probably going to be quiet on here for a while, I’m having my Gallbladder removed tomorrow. Will try and get some sketches churned out as soon as I’m feeling better!

Plans for next week will be getting some backgrounds sketched out, I want something that will create more depth.

I spoke to my tutor about the running theme stylistically, and I’m hoping to create backgrounds that contrast with my images’ fine line and detail.

Test run page, for layouts.

I thought that the image on the reversed being contained in the character’s silhouette would be an interesting way to put the ‘compliment’ in.

I was having trouble with colour palettes, I’m not entirely sure I’m happy with the brighter colours, I think it may work better with more depth.

The flat is boring, I feel.
