Now that all (I think) of the colour prefixes are up, I’d like to go briefly into what the tagging system is for prefixes.
Any colour: this just indicates that the prefix is pattern-only, so the base colour could be anything.
Bicolour: a cat that is approximately half white, and half another colour (or colours, if tortoiseshell).
Black: refers to solid black only; due to the differences in appearance between a black tabby and a solid black cat, black tabby has its own tag.
Black tabby: your standard broad-shouldered dark tabby tom. Black stripes on a brownish base.
Blue: a grey cat; may or may not look blueish.
Chocolate: a very dark brown seen mostly in pedigree cats.
Cinnamon: a rich, reddish-brown seen mostly in pedigree cats. This and chocolate are the only way to get a solid brown cat.
Colourpoint: your Siamese, your Himalayan, etc. Dark at the extremities and light at the rest of the body, due to heat-sensitive albinism. (There are other types of colourpoint (Tonkinese and Burmese), but the tags are a reference for naming the high-contrast Siamese type).
Cream: a very pale orange; dilute form of red. Won’t be tagged with tabby, since all red cats have stripes.
Fawn: the dilute form of cinnamon; a very pale brown.
Lilac: the dilute form of chocolate, this is a very pale grey with an almost pinkish tint.
Patched: prefixes for more than half white, that still imply some colour, get this tag. White prefixes can be used with a small amount of colour, but those won’t be tagged with this.
Red: your standard ginger cat. Since all red cats have stripes, this won’t be tagged with tabby unless the pattern is particularly important.
Silver: a particular type of modified tabby, where the stripes are very dark and the base is very light.
Spotted tabby: a type of modified tabby where the stripes have been broken into spots. The prefix probably shouldn’t be used for a standard tabby if this is tagged.
Tabby: classic and mackerel tabby are both fine unless otherwise stated. The colour of tabby is indicated by other tags.
Tortoiseshell: this tag goes on all types of tortoiseshell, regardless of the “base” colour (black, chocolate, cinnamon, or dilutes of those), since most will function for any of those. If one of those colours is tagged alongside tortoiseshell, then that’s the colour you’d want for the not-red. (eg, grey- is tagged ‘grey’, ‘lilac’, and ‘tortoiseshell’, so you could name a grey or lilac tortie Greykit, but not a chocolate tortie.)
White: can be used with small amounts of colour, just as any other colour prefix can be used with small amounts of white or another colour.
Basically, if you want a general idea of what the prefix refers to, look at the description; if you want to know the specific colours and patterns, look at the tags.

Uses: a cat with patches of different colours, whether predominantly white with coloured splotches, bicolour, or tortoiseshell with distinct sections of colour.
