Hey guys, my name is Michael Sube and I’m asking for help with some medical costs that I’m dealing with now that I’m out of the hospital. As many of you may know, I’ve been extremely ill with respiratory issues as I’ll explain in more detail below.

I went to Harris Hospital on October 16th for a really bad cough and a heart rate of 187, but they discharged me with antibiotics that didn’t necessarily work.

I went back 3 days later, the 19th, and got a CT Scan due to the possibility of having a blood clot in my lung, yet they found nothing in my lungs or heart that was life threatning.

Again, giving me more medicine that didn’t help and sent me home. I then visited a different hospital, called Parkland, in Dallas, TX to see if they could get to the bottom of this. Unfortunately, I didn’t receive answers there either. Again, more medicine for the usual flu-season patient this year, and sent me home.

Through each visit with no solution, I’ve been charged for more money than I can afford to pay, because I don’t currently have insurance and haven’t been at my job long enough to receive benefits.

I just got my bills from Harris, the first hospital I visited the first 2 times, which states that I owe $5,387 for those visits.

That’s not including the Parkland visit or my return visits to Harris with testing which I decided to continue when the 2nd opinion and Parkland didn’t contribute any further information, and I am waiting on the return visit and treatments from Harris to be billed…

Harris admitted me after being unable to give me any answers on my condition, but I have no idea what a stay at Harris Hospital is going to cost me for 48 hours and all the tests/treatmeants they ran on me. In addition to my admittance and stay, I’m waiting to see what the costs of the follow ups and more breathing treatments/medications will be to continue treating whatever it is in my lungs. I’m assuming it’s going to be a much bigger bill than what my first ones are.

At the moment, I’m dealing with proving my medical-leave information to my employer and receiving pay for the days I have worked. With that pay, I’m going to start a payment plan, after my bills such as rent, etc. are paid.

I’m going to be on breathing treatments and antibiotics until it’s determined what is in my lung, and if it’s growing or benign with medication.

If there is anyone out there at all that could help me get out of this bind and crazy time, it would be greatly appreciated.

I love you all, friends, family and even people I don’t know that are willing to help. If anyone can, please help in anyway seen fit. I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t cruciual.

I’m 22 years old and do not have parents or anyone that is capable of helping me through these unexpected medical conditions and costs, and anything helps which I greatly appreciate.

I actually had a neighbor that had kind of a fling with James Dean back in the day. He had one of Dean's old jean jackets and told me stories about him, it was pretty neat.

Today I was out walking my dog in East Grand Rapids and this man pulled up and started taking pictures of me. I told him to delete every picture he took of me and he refused and said it was “public domain” to which I respond, “I am not public domain.” He continued on to dig in his wallet while I took pictures of his license plate and tried to lure me closer to his car with a little card he said was his business card but the text was handwritten (like seriously? Come on). I started screaming for him to delete every picture so everyone in the neighborhood and probably the next galaxy could hear and after much heated arguing he finally deleted them. As I’m running away he screamed “you got a nice set of tits and pussy,” (again, seriously?) at me all the way down the street. So I get home and call the police because I’m an idiot and was hoping maybe someone could help keep this creep off the streets (batman and I aren’t talking anymore). The operator briskly and coldly let me know that he was completely in the right and that regardless of consent, if you’re on public property, people can take pictures of you. She also informed me that his comments were also fine because its free expression. So since the police have refused to take action, I’m posting this here and on Facebook so people know there’s some Wilford Brimley looking motherfucker roaming Grand Rapids taking pictures of girls on the streets.

I’m 100% sure this is the same motherfucker I kicked out of my club two weeks ago for taking pictures of the girls. He put up a fight and said “if they didn’t want pictures taken they wouldn’t be wearing what they are.” He didn’t delete them until I gave him an ultimatum: delete them or leave in an ambulance. Slash his tires, vandalize his house, idgaf.

This week I concentrated my efforts on a story about a Black-owned Masonic loge in North Portland that’s been on the same corner since the late 1960’s. After being vandalized by white-supremacist graffiti, it was the target of a complaint that racked them up a massive bill with the City for violations they might not be able to afford to bring their building into compliance with.

I know a lot of us spend a lot of time thinking and talking about the rapid gentrification of North and Northeast Portland, and the loss we feel that our families and friends can no longer afford to live in the city. But we’re in a position where we can still perhaps help one last part of history stay in its beloved corner. They need our help, and in order to to do that, we must raise awareness of their struggle and understand what the cost of keeping them here really is.
