Postulating the idea of making little mini posts about concepts: idk how possible they are, but I like the idea of little regional posts to show off parts of the world and creatures and some small history just to give more sense of the world. We'll see
wow it's been two years since I've posted LOL !
I've actually been doing a fair amount of work in the background, doing a lot of conceptualizing, outlining, and some writing.
I finally got a diagnosis last year for ADHD and started medicating and it's really helped me overall get more work done. This past year I've done about 30 chapter outlines and done some extensive charting through the story. I had originally intended to do full outlines for "Maelstrom" (the first book of Orion), but will likely not get through that by the end of the year, given time and how busy I've been. Right now I've outlined through the entirety of the "Kingdom of the Moon" arc and well into Metallorgous
I've also actually gotten chapters written - I've been in a state of perpetual rewrites for Orion, to replace the chapters I originally wrote in late high school. Those were nice little drafts that I have a fondness for, but aren't particularly good. I've also taken a bit more time with the story to layer it in itself and work on longform development of characters and ideas. Basically, the first two chapters comprise the events of my first older chapter, with my currently drafted 3rd chapter being my original second one
I wanna say we start nebulously getting into kingdom of the moon in chapter 3, with the full "start" in chapter 5. We follow the harrowing tale of the illumis and follow through chapter 21 as per my outlines
This is all to say, I may try and get some edits and such and release those chapters this month. We're coming up on 10 years since I started to conceptualize Orion. I've wanted to do more to celebrate, but only can do as much as I have
If it helps, I have something like 120ish pages of concepts and ideas layered out right now. Outlines are something like 66ish pages long. I'm hoping to get most of my Metallorgous arc outlines centralized and filled through since it's needed the most work

so i have, on two occasions now, made up a little writing language when i was bored doing something else. these arent finalized by any means, and i honestly feel like are a bit lazy bc they’re just an english cipher currently. but uh, here’s a bit of beran i worked with
the idea behind it was to consider a language that was being written in either clay or stone, with writing based around easy straight strokes that a chisel could make. i wanted to avoid rounded characters, but have something that seems a little floaty
beran, for the uninitiated, is an ancient metallia language centered around nebera. it has since been transformed into common, a language that is seen as a merger between major existing languages for the purpose of trade
the words listed, if you’re curious, are” argenium (silver metallia kingdom), sanguine (native race of ferro-metallia/halcia), cupronan (copper metallia kingdom), and lyrada’me (lustre-metallia goddess of light)
in terms of current orion, many of these things no longer exist. the citadel of tel’argen has been a grave for thousands of years. the ruins of the cupronan kingdom mark a violent end to their rule. the sanguine of metallorgous are few, after the genocide, and the lyrada’me was slaughtered thousands of years ago

orion and mental health
so i typically post here when i have some sort of like, idea or concept i want to talk about and make evident to my 2 or so followers but i think i regularly work with this like. misunderstanding of how vague most of these posts come across
Orion Unfathomable is a world and narrative i’ve been building for the better part of 7 years now. its been a really interesting adventure. i started writing this as an extremely depressed teenager who was finding a way to like, explore concepts and find distractions from life. its a very different mindset than i feel im in now - an adult with significantly different circumstances
orion has been a very internal thing for me. i’ve only ever written the first few chapters, alongside small excerpts and anecdotes from history and worldbuilding since. orion was originally being done in small snippets between classes and at night between chatting with friends on steam and playing games. then came college - which was NOT conducive to writing a book (funny right), as well as like, a lot more mental health struggles
its interesting to me bc i find that i felt like i was significantly less mentally ill in college than i was in high school (honestly probably more about ability to deal with it as versus like. actual differences). however one of the things i think i came to terms with more is that ive dealt with like, LONGFORM executive dysfunction.
i don’t wanna like write some long excerpt on how its affected me over my entire life but rest assured - its been a major problem but ive really only recently considered like, that it wasnt some inherent flaw i had as a person. kind of fucked but you know: mental illness
i guess this is all to say: ive been reminiscing recently about writing orion. i have a full time job now that like pays me well and has benefits, and ive been finding myself with small bits of time where i can just sit and write. and i actually have been! its small bits of writing, and nothing finalized, but it is making me feel like i could potentially make a bit of progress
ive also actually been considering story progression and new developments as well. i feel like ive actually had a few moments where i improved on something ive genuinely wanted to get past for a number of years. i cant say for certain where this may take me, but i wanted to be forthcoming about some of my internal process to maybe explain a bit of why its been such a fragmentary process over the last like 5 years
but yeah. perhaps in the future if i get writing done i’ll release it here. ive been considering just compiling writing until i have substantial enough pieces to actually exist (like arcs, as versus the first chapter or two of something lmao), but again: uncertain. we shall see...

the governence of metallorgous in the wake of kinslaying, trade guilds and unions in a post-maelstrom neberra
so another thing ive been considering lately is the governmental structure of metallorgous, as i had previous only formulated a few ideas:
1) metallorgous has no royalty - the kingdoms of the metallia are in major decay, with a SIGNIFICANT amount of their power and influence diminished by the metallia war. this is both from the major losses due to the maelstrom (such a large amount of the lustre army and argentium-backed forces of the lithos alliance died in the impact in central neberra), as well as a loss of confidence in royalty. infighting and war destroyed generations of metallia, and the rewards of that war were obliterated in minutes
2) metallorgian government has symbolic leaders, with actual power invested in councils and influential groups. i sort of have VAGUE ideas about who the current leader of metallorgous is - and why its eventually gonna be an issue for a world being increasingly military-dominated by the gemman armies of the crystalline empire. metallorgous has structure for their government, but are a lot more economically focused. originally i had an idea that there was a king or queen of metallorgous and their bloodline had been cursed, but im sort of holding onto that in case i wanna explore that idea
3) as the economic center of neberra (essentially the whole nebri honestly), the many trade guilds and workers unions have had WAY more influence on major decisions in the way metallorgous operates. consider imports/exports, trade reputation and culture, flow of money in the economy, funding for public services, education, etc. also partially i think that one of the major concessions of power from the former government to unions was they literally had to perform a coup because the former government was complicit in a genocide
right now my biggest thoughts are WHAT trade unions are influential, and what that looks like.
also ive been using them interchangably but guilds and unions are very different. the metallorgian unions are cool and i wanna explore them more (some of the knights are ALMOST a union but i wanna say a fair few are part of a religious sect). metallorgian guilds have some cool shit but i figure theres some bad ones too
right now im focused on a trading group known as the terne guild, who operates in former argentium kingdom lands alongside the mountains that cut off the deadlands of ilna from the annoch (west annoccia, to be specific). amaya travels with the terne guild for a while in chapter 2, as they caravan towards metallorgous. this is actually where he meets gaia! yes i have changed this where amaya didnt just meet gaia in the fucking woods bc i realized thats stupid and bad writing

in the unthinkable, i have actually been writing some. it’s pretty hard to do with what i’ve spent years coming to terms with is likely “severe executive dysfunction” as well as like depression about current world, but its been nice
