somniferance overwhelms his body, not dragging-- but gently pulling him to the forest floor where he once arose many years ago. there are two, inherently contradictory feelings that dwell between the tall, tall trees surrounding him: alone and together. the two intertwine, pushing and pulling for power while wren holds tight to both -- stanchioned by them as he sits on sodden soil, among the rocks and leaves and creatures that call them home.

he’s spent many years of his life wondering if those little creatures feel the keening of years gone by, but recently he has decided that the answer is yes, in their own way.

it seems that today, together will win-- if the sound of foot steps says anything at all. the book in his hands folds closed, thumb holding the page reflexively as he turns.
