still not over how the hebrew translation of jjk ch. 90 chose to translate gojo’s line
My friend sent me this scan of the Hebrew translation of Shibuya Ch. 90 from an Israeli animanga Discord and I’m literally screaming.
We all know the VIZ line where Gojo says "but my soul knows otherwise," but the Hebrew team apparently decided to go completely rogue.
Look at the side-by-side comparison:
According to my friend who translated the bubbles for me, the Hebrew script literally says: "But my heart and soul only love him!" For context, this is the breakdown they gave me:
העיניים שלי אומרות לי = "My eyes tell me..." (referring to the Six Eyes)
שאתה סוגורו גטו = "...that you are Suguru Geto."
אבל הלב והנשמה שלי אוהבים רק אותו = "...but my heart and soul only love him."
The "like" vs "love" thing in Hebrew:
For context, the modern Hebrew verb they used here (אוהבים / ohavim) pulls double duty for both "to like" and "to love."
If you want to be extremely conservative and platonic about it, you could technically translate this as "my heart and soul only prefer him." Syntactically, placing “heart and soul” alongside a verb that literally means “to love” is extremely powerful. It gives the Hebrew line a distinctly romantic undertone that the English translation doesn't fully capture. On top of that, they even preserved the anime’s added “heart” (הלב).
Whoever did this localization is seriously impressive. Did they just go full tragic romance, or is this the most intense “platonic” phrasing possible? 😭😭
