Dublin duo Peaks - Rory Caraher and James Hyland - have released a new EP. You can get it free here from the the ihaudio Tumblr.
They said last week they’d gone Techno and this new foray hears that they have indeed tightened up and wound down into a minimal form, with most of the tracks taking on the restrained longreach beats that slowly progress in broad arcs over fairly long timeframes; at four tracks, this EP is a full half-hour long.
The sounds are clean, calming, almost restorative with a stand-out for me being ‘6<4>40’, electronic sound for cool rambling into a disengaged territory. It all works in the interest of your attention span to attune your ears to the methods in place that lead an extended and enjoyable slow-burn up to the final moment when all that restraint jumps out of the box with ‘FR1409’, exuberant and disjointed, noisy and stumbling forwards in a frenzy like a thirst-stricken wayfarer who’s seen water far down the road after a long, slow trek across the desert.
Peaks launch the EP at Junior Spesh this Thursday 18 October for a late gig in the Twisted Pepper. Support comes from We Arrive Alive and We Is Cloud. More info on the FB event page.
