『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  It did occur to him that today was Pocky day, and that means people eating on the other end of your pocky stick. But really, this really wasn’t what he had expected at all.

     His cheeks flushed as the free swimmer bit down on the other end of the pocky, and he registered slowly on what Haru is doing. “Wait, Haru?!” And then, because of the movement from speaking, the pocky stick broke and Makoto gazed silently at the broken pocky stick in Haru’s lip.

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  He hadn’t taken notice about pocky dangling from his lips as he slowly nibbled on the end of the chocolate tip. Though when a shadows hovered over him and emerald eyes glanced up, he watched silently as another set of lips settled on the other end of the pocky stick. Makoto met the strangers eyes, only to flush to realize it was his one and only friend. “H-haru??!”

     Nodding his head, Haru lead the way towards the palace – traveling along deserted streets and the like to make sure they didn’t arrive at the palace front on, or were seen by anyone on the way. Very few people were out right now, but it was just to make sure.

Soon, they arrived at the place where they could leave the camels, which where somewhere behind the palace. Tying the camel to the tree and making it lay down, he turned towards Makoto. 

“We need to get how the guards move before we do anything further. If we are lucky then they are drunk.”

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  Makoto smiled to the camel before tying the leash to the tree, patting it as it sat down onto the dusty ground. It was as if they were bandits-- Well, they really are right now.

     “How do we know, Haru?” He questioned, standing beside his friend as he looked at the peek of the palace. “This place is huge.” Now he is praying silently that the guards are drunk.

Makoto took back the clothes from him and Haru just stared curiously as he tried to understood exactly what to do with them. He was a bit confused as Makoto got him dressed, but didn’t try to resist him as his arms were moved around. He still didn’t trust him completely, but he cold understood that right now he was just helping him: 

Still, he had been right. Clothes were uncomfortable and itchy and why would humans do something like that to themselves?  He reached a hand to touch Makoto’s shirt, trying to understand if there was some sort of difference, something that maybe made clothes more bearable. Or maybe he just had to get used to it. He lifted his gaze to meet his eyes after that, a silent thanks as he had noticed Makoto hadn’t seem really comfortable dressing him up. He wondered why that was. Sure, even from his part, it wasn’t the best thing, having to be mavouvred around like a kid.  But now he would be able to see the ship form up close, to see what the human world was like and he was thrilled.

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  Oh trust him. He too thinks that clothes are uncomfortable. But maybe it’s because of the material the clothes are made? Makoto raised his eyes, only to meet the ocean blue eyes of the merman’s.

His heart skipped.

     He adverted his gaze rather quickly as he cleared his throat, and he quickly took his breathing into account. “A-anyways, let’s go back to the ship.” He stated, noticing that the ship is sailing farther away. Taking the paddles in both hands, he began to steer his way back to the ship, pumping his arms as he pushed the water, carrying the small boat towards the ship.

     One of the crew members leaned over the edge of the ship, throwing a pair of long ropes over the boat, and Makoto listened as it made a loud ‘plop’. With skilled hands, he began to tie the ropes around the ship, and he turned towards Haruka and gestured him to hold on tight. And then the crew began to pull them back up the ship. “Aye, why did you have to bring yet another strand to the ship lad?” One of the crew members spat.

     “I’m sorry, but every life counts.” Makoto countered. Taking a step off the boat before turning his attention back to Haruka, holding out his hand to help the merman out of the boat. “Can you walk?”

       Haru frowned at Makoto’s obvious nervousness, a small sigh leaving his lips as he moved over to his friend and placed a hand on his shoulder. “It’s okay. We’ll be fine,” he promised, dropping his hand soon after before once again making sure that they had everything they needed. Money, food – everything to survive was packed; the house almost seemed empty now, but he supposed that made sense.

Moving outside then to the camels, his feet making no noise due to practice in sneaking around, he turned towards Makoto at the question. “I know a spot. Just follow me,” he replied quietly, motioning for his friend to follow him. 

They had no time to waste. The night would be over before they knew it, so they had to move fast. It could take some time to figure out the guards routine, and then there was the whole part of sneaking in and get what they needed unnoticed. “Are you ready?”

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  It was assuring to know that at least he wasn’t doing this alone. A smile tugged on his lips as he adjusted the bag onto his shoulder before, sneakily, followed the navy haired male out of their house.

     The air was chilly, especially in the desert. As Makoto untied the leash and stroked the camel’s head, he followed closely behind Haru.

     “... Yeah.” He’s not going to waste any more time pondering about such a simple question. “Let’s go.”

But alas, the butterfly flew away, and his eyes followed it until he couldn’t catch sight of it anymore, before returning the gaze to his old friend.

     ❝ It’s almost time for swim practice, Makoto. ❞

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  He would be lying if the sudden flash of color flew between his eyes didn’t make him jump. Eyes trailing from the butterfly, he trained his eyes back to the male.

     “Oh, yeah!” Makoto nodded as he stood up from the tiled floor, but another yawn escaped his lips in the process. Well, he should’ve slept earlier last night.

Haru glanced curiously at Makoto, as he felt his eyes on him. Was it that interesting for him? Well, it probably was now that he thought about it. He never met a human and Makoto probably never met a merman before.  He ignored the red on Makoto’s cheeks and his apologize, more interest in examining the pieces of clothes he was given. He couldn’t figure out what he should do with them. How did he put them on? They seemed uncomfortable too.  After a few moments, he lifted his gaze to stare at Makoto. Maybe he could help.  “Makoto.” He couldn’t really ask, he hoped he would understand by himself.

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  He wasn’t sure if he should be amused by the fact that the merman does have limbs, or the fact that the male was having trouble wearing the piece of clothing in his hands. A chuckle escaped his lips as a smile fell upon his face, only to blink as the merman called out his name.

     “Oh! Right, you don’t know how to wear them.” And so Makoto took the white shirt from the other’s hands and unbuttoned the piece of cloth before leaning over, wrapping Haruka with the cloth before proceeding on bringing Haruka’s arms through the sleeves, and he did the same with the other as he proceeded with the pants.

     Well, it truly is embarrassing helping another male dress up, but this was no time to be embarrass, this is, after all, an emergency... To him at least. “... There.” He leaned back and let out a sigh as he stared at the fully clothed male, “You’ll be less suspected now.”

Haruka notices his friend there, and walks over. He was planning on waking him, for the practice was about to start — but there was a tiny butterfly on his nose that caught his attention instead.

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  It felt like hours since he had slept, but with the object that seem to prick his nose, he fluttered his eyes open, raising his hand to wipe the sleep off his eyes. “Haru...? Oh, sorry, did you say something...?” His voice trailed as he noticed the free swimmer’s eyes directed to his nose. What is he looking at? “Haru?”

       Haru offered Makoto a small smile and a nod at that. “Alright. Get some rest soon as well,” he replied before moving to his sleeping place, lying down to get a bit of rest before their ‘mission’. It should go well enough if they were careful. They mere had to get in, get some supplies and then get out; hopefully never needing to come back ever again. They would find the oasis and live peacefully there for the rest of time.

His rest seemed to be over far too quickly, the setting sun soon disappearing over the horizon. Haru let out a small yawn as he got up, stretching before moving to a stand. “Makoto…? Are you ready?” he questioned, moving to check that they had everything once again.

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  With the missions carved in the back of his head, it was a bit nerve wrecking to know that Haru and himself will go through it tonight. His eyes gazed at the wall on the other side as he took a breath out, relaxing his overthinking mind and to ease his tense muscles.

     The sun fell under the horizon, and he swore he felt his heart jump. “Y-yeah!” There’s no turning back now. Besides, he wanted this anyways, even if it meant to throw away other things.

     Makoto stood up and went over towards their belongings, picking up his bag and slung it over his shoulder, checking to see if everything is there, including the dagger by his waist belt. “Where should we tie the camels?” Makoto questioned.

        Haru didn’t want Makoto to kill anyone, his friend was far too kind-hearted to do such a thing – however, he had to know that he could if necessary. Their lives were on the line here, and if Makoto had to, then he would have to choose his own life over another’s. It was simply how it worked.

Haru had been in a difficult situation before because he didn’t wish to kill anyone when he first started off. He learned the hard way that it was necessary, because otherwise it was yourself that would be killed.

“Good. Hopefully it won’t be necessary,” he replied, nodding his head. Once done with his food, he cleaned up his own mess and let out a small sigh. “We will be able to rest a bit before it gets dark. Once the sun has showed its last light for today, we will leave. Okay?”

『 ◦ Μ α к о ƭ о ◦ 』━  It felt like something is running through his veins at the thought of having to kill a man over his own. Of course, no one wants their own life to end so quickly so they would fight for their life right? In Makoto’s case, he may just run away. However, if his friend is trouble... Then he’ll kill a man.

     Makoto nodded, agreeing with the navy haired male’s statement. It’ll be a long day throughout the night, and they’ll need all the rest they could get to move, especially through the desert. “I’ll clean up, you go rest first.” Makoto smiled as he stood from his seat, grabbing his plate, “You just came back from a journey so you should go and rest.”
