In doing more research on this issue, this became more to me than just a birthday fundraiser for an admired actor - this became a wake up call to a crisis that effects EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US and all generations to come. If we ignore climate change, get ready for food shortages due to animal/plant extinction, more extreme weather (some places like Southeast Asia will become inhabitable!), more diseases because of germs spread via flooding, and a host of other issues. So, do I think that Union of Concerned Scientists is a good cause to donate to? Even only $5 if you’re broke? Hell, yeah, because I actually like being alive. Oscar’s Birthday - Update #3

We are only at 16.25% toward our total goal right now. At this time last year, we were at 43%. We can do better than this!!!

Will Oscar Isaac fans step up for a great cause? We came together last year in support of pancreatic cancer research, and climate change is just as important to him and his family. It should be important to all of us.

Oscar Isaac’s sister, Nicole Hernández Hammer, gave this interview while she was still working for Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) two years ago. We are delivering the birthday messages to a third party person to give them to Oscar. Last year, we had so many amazing messages for him on his birthday and I hope we can do the same this year. So many of you told him how much he meant to you, and we know it made him smile.

We’ve seen other fandoms do it! We’ve seen people get over $12k for fundraisers. We just want to hit the $4,000 mark for Oscar’s 40th birthday.

You might have participated last year because a friend or relative was affected by pancreatic cancer. You might be saying, “Climate change isn’t affecting me.”

It is. It’s affecting all of us. From wild fires to the strongest storms on record, heat waves to flooding to droughts, we are all affected by climate change, and it’s not normal.. It’s caused by us, by fossil fuel emissions and a lack of conservation.

We can help turn the tides by 2030 if we support causes like this. We have 11 years to change our ways before the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says it could be too late.

Do you have nieces, nephews, kids? Grandkids? Do you want a bright future on a planet that isn’t in peril? Do you hate seeing starving polar bears, and habitats ruined? What about the human lives lost?

This cause affects all of us. Even if you aren’t an Oscar fan, there are things you can do to help. Most of us can afford five bucks. Time to step up.
