For my day of birth, I'm allowing myself one (1) self indulgent rant, (not to say my birthday was today or anything, just to say it was this week and I don't want to give away too much personal information so I'm posting this whenever I feel like doing so) so it's going to be about the The Amazing Digital Circus, Leak, with Spoilers for the leak below the cut, read at your own risk, CW for sexual assault mention,
Anyways, the Leak, I watched it, it was shitty.
The pacing is bad, there's no real reflection done with any of the core cast aside from, you guessed it, Jax, the worst character. Say what you will. Say that he's traumatized. But Jesus Christ we know his trauma now and it's his own damn fault brother almost killed his mother in an argument, "oh but his mom was being mean!" Yea sure but not violent, he said it's a fight they were arguing with eachother, she never escalated to violence and he thinks he killed her over it, and that's his trauma.
He has fantasies of sexually assaulting Gangle like, maybe 10 minutes before this btw, I'm not joking, if I was I'd probably feel less mad, honestly disgusting shit. "Those are intrusive thoughts" they're one of the 4 Jax's making up the overall whole of his psyche forgive me for not believing they're intrusive thoughts, especially with how he acts towards Gangle in the rest of the show.
He's the reason Ribbit abstracts By the By, and we're supposed to feel sad for him about it. FOR. HIM. That's how the damn episode is framed, it's literally from his POV that's the most literal way I could think of to imply that we're meant to feel empathy in this moment for this character. And then Jax is all calm and he becomes the circus's abstracted pet after Pomni hugs him once. Godddd
I hate that rabbit, and I'm glad he's dead.
Caine is back, he's reformed wOoOo uh he shows the gang a slide show of who they are IRL after a very confusingly paced scene where he somehow gets internet access, (C&A is an abandoned building, I can accept to a point that it has some sort of electricity (a generator or emergency power, but otherwise who's paying the bills for this place's electricity), but WiFi? No. Unless I missed something in the scene there's no explanation for this) and roll credits.
I'm not gonna get into the cast, and especially Gooseworx's reaction to the leaks, although I'll quickly say that if my creative work that other people are paying money for got leaked I'd be a little sympathetic or at least understanding, especially when those fans that are upset about the leak the most are keeping their tickets, and that money still goes to you in the end (especially since those fans aren't the ones that criticize you, these fans aren't the ones whom you say burn you out). To add onto this, when you agree to make a pilot for an somewhat well known indie animation studio with the means to promote your work, you know that thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of eyes would be on your project from the outset, people who like Murder Drones are probably gonna be a bit curious, from the beginning, TADC has been a product, a show concept created in two weeks FOR GLITCH, they promoted it, the merchandised the SHIT out of it when it came out, they went through with a theater release even after knowing there would be a two week gap between the showing and the YouTube release, (you can blame the theater all you want, I think that's stupid, that's how all movies that come to theaters work, they get a theater run then release on streaming, we know that,) but the show is still going into theaters, I'm sure there wasn't a financial incentive involved in knowing a lot of your fan base wouldn't want to be spoiled by two weeks of waiting so they'll pay for tickets, but I'm sure some of the extra money has got to be nice from the people who would've just stayed home and watched it on YouTube.
What I'm saying, is that it was never just a cartoon.
(this is of course to say that I'm sure there's bad actors in the fandom, and I'm sure that there are people like how everyone thinks the fandom is, but I haven't seen any, what I've seen is people getting upset with people who aren't fans of the show, who are just critical of it, and they're not apart of the fandom, because they aren't FANS)
