percy has a really complicated relationship with his dad because it's like the normal lone wanderer + father troubles but when you add percy's disability to the mix it just adds whole new levels of Fucked Up.

like yeah james left percy in the vault because he knew that percy was an adult and that he would be cared for, but also because percy is blind and james knew he would have a better life in a home he already memorized the layout of; with people who are his friends and would look out for him.

which makes percy's feelings of being left behind get magnified tenfold when it turns out he doesn't have any friends and he has to leave into the super dangerous wasteland anyways...how could james think that percy wouldn't need him? both in an emotional sense and because of his blindness...
