Not just being plural, it sometimes it feels like they think singlets may never have multiple identities ever and that happens all the time. How many times have you heard that "a part of somebody" wants to do something? How many times in media the hero needed to face a part of themself? Do they think it was pulled out of their ass or something? Sure, it might not be to an extent that polyminds do but singlets differentiate their subpersonalities all the time. Antis are so caught up in the narrative that systems are so so different from singlets that they think that the nondisordered personality is some sort of monolith when it's not. i think a lot of the reason people think you can't have trauma, seperate identities, identity confusion, experiences with dissociation, etc if you don't have DID is because of how much disorders get watered down on the internet, people think any personality trait and remotely quirky experience has to have a disorder to describe it when disorders aren't personality traits they're disorders

this is a genuine question… why are people hating on polyminds? I’ve only recently learned about them but it just seems like IFS without it being applied in therapy - and I see some intending to use their system (the medical term) in therapy when possible.

So far I haven’t seen any polyminds claiming to be plural, but moreso a collective of selfstates or subpersonalities that have been given roles to better understand the self. Not like… larping being a system.

This is a genuine question so please don’t be an ass if you reply 😭 both anti and pro (and neutral) opinions are very welcome as, again, this is a genuine question and I’m curious to see what other people think. Like I said, this is new to me, so I’m just seeking more clarity on the situation.

to actually answer your question; tiktok discovered polyminds and the original video hating on them got a lot of likes and worded it in a way that appeals to people's bias (using words like "support" and "invalid") and tiktok has a habit of cyberbullying being generally toxic and spreading misinformation so that got really bad especially since polymind was a really niche term so tiktok was able to rewrite the definition of it. there were like maybe 100 people max who identify as polymind and the posts hating on them got 10-15k likes. when i corrected misinformation or asked for proof i would be blocked or have my comment deleted. i was one of the people who knew what it was but i wasn't able to speak out against it because people who know me irl found my account. and there's also something that really bothers me, people speaking out against the polymind hate who weren't pro endo and got remotely any views have said they got their accounts mass reported and banned. people also constantly use fallacies / debate tactics to argue against polyminds. this situation has driven me insane to say the least ive been completely isolated from everyone for something i can't change about myself and the way ive been treated has destroyed my mental health, this happened recently after i remembered my trauma and i wasn't able to use IFS therapy as a coping mechanism and i ended up triggering myself multiple times because i felt like i wasn't able to view the part of me that was traumatized as seperate because it was "encouraging dissociation" and i was "stealing from people with DID and they didn't allow me to" which ironically caused me to dissociate again when i had gotten better with it in the recent years (especially since im a minor and still live with one of my abusers), i had my survival mechanism continuously prodded at by people on the internet and told it was unhealthy and had my mental health policed by them, i was treated like i couldn't exist because my brain didn't work in the same way other people's did and i have trauma and i wasn't competent enough to tell what was going on inside my own brain and that i exist, ive had my trauma and brain invalidated and downplayed by so many people and had it boiled down to other peoples and told my own brain belonged to people with DID, ive been treated like im not a person especially by people on tiktok

it specifically bothers me when people call polyminds endogenic systems because it's caused by trauma for a lot of people and the coiner uses it to help with their dissociation. you can't say polyminds are faking DID without being under the impression their signs of DID aren't actually real, people say this because they're so desperate to invalidate their experiences. im pretty sure this is also supported by people because of fallacious reasoning, that being since polyminds claim to not have DID, they must also be saying the experiences they do claim to have aren't real which is obviously a fallacy because those are two completely seperate things. because they don't have DID, people think them faking it.. or faking their actual experiences (which is again a different thing) is reasonable to assume. (plus someone who identifies as a polymind could still have DID and not know it, so people acting like if someone identifies as polymind they automatically don't have DID and therefore their signs of it are wrong makes no sense)

i frequently hear from anti-polyminds (and similarly anti-IFS) something along the lines of “it’s harmful to identify your subpersonalities without a therapist in front of you”. but there is no evidence of this; this is a rumour that anti-polyminds made up and continue to spread simply to bash on polyminds and IFS.

in fact, Dr. Richard Schwartz, the creator of IFS, has said himself that IFS is “something you can do on a daily, moment-to-moment basis—at any time, by yourself or with others”. IFS is fine to practice without a therapist, and not everyone has the means to get therapy in the first place.

i have a huge gripe with this argument because for one it's hypocritical, saying THIS is insanely fucking harmful and dangerous. what im worried about is someone who already has compartmentalized parts of themselves to cope with trauma is gonna be told this and end up trying to integrate their brain and triggering themselves. they're policing the mental health of strangers and acting like a stranger has to listen to them and using therapy to act like they're not allowed to exist or aren't competent enough to understand IFS is helping them under the guise that therapists are mental health professionals so you can't possibly exist without one to tell you that you do. oh you don't like the color green? ive actually declared that's not true until you get a therapist to prove it is, don't even comprehend the color green or dislike anything ever until you get a therapist. oh you went through trauma? don't ever do anything to help yourself, process the event or cope until you can get a therapist, don't ever draw to cope, don't ever make music to cope, its not like that's not even possible and attempting to do that would severely hurt you. (this is the same type of argument used against non binary people) it's also because their brain works differently than other people. there's so much saneism and fear mongering to be controlling of others and convince them to do something to severely harm themselves. they're claiming a stranger has to do what *they* say when they aren't a therapist themselves until they get one which is incredibly ironic. acting like they know what's best for a stranger and they know what's going on in their life and the person is incapable of telling if something's hurting them, acting like they know what's going on in a strangers head better than they do, it's insanely messed up as it's adjacent to gaslighting. it's also just straight up wrong, why would a *therapy method* be harmful?? the only reason people think this is a valid argument is because it uses the fallacy i mentioned earlier. saying a literal therapy method is harmful is spreading harmful misinformation yourself. not to mention polymindence is said to be a label for people who were already like this, people are allergic to reading they would rather just make up whatever definition of polymind they want to get angry. also if polyminds are harming themselves, you should be concerned for them, not make them feel bad for it. they don't actually care about their health (otherwise they wouldn't be pressuring them to severely fucking hurt themselves) they just want an excuse to hate them. im begging the internet to stop spreading misinformation that severely fucking hurts people, stop acting like you know what you're talking about, wanting to be smart and go with what everyone else on your side of the internet is saying isn't more important than people's safety and mental health
