We did it! Alice and I competed in the Rolex Arena! She was a rockstar, trying so hard she ran out of steam for the finals, but honestly I am so blown away with this mare. So very cool!

Are you guys ever dumbfounded by the impossibility of life with animals? I just was. This exact thought ran through my head:

“I live in a house with four carnivores of varying sizes, and all of them are sitting here next to me because they want my pita chips.”

But having aquatic animals is super weird because like I’ve constructed a very very very small lake so my water beings can live in my land house.

I live with a sharp-fanged, needle-clawed predator of superior grace and agility. Sometimes it sits in the corner and screams, sometimes it trips over its own paws, sometimes it sits in my lap, and sometimes it falls off the couch. Amazing.

I routinely convince a hoofed prey animal almost 10x my weight to allow me to sit on its back, tell it what to do, and that jumping over things rather than running around them is the easier option.

Well that was a bit of an unexpected hiatus from the blog! Work had tumblr blocked which was where I found time to write up updates. But now I’m back! I think. haha. I’m starting a new job on Thursday and teaching more lessons after as the barn kids are back in school. I am still finding time to train however. I took the naughty paint to his first show this past weekend and hoooo boy. haha. It was just a rail show and I wasn’t expecting to place, but it was still disappointing to not be able to show myself and this horse off to the best of our abilities. But I think he really just wants to be a fantastic trail horse. He was never happier than when i just took him out on a hack around the grounds and the park next to the show. He loads easily, isn’t at all herd bound, and no spook! he would love to lead the way on the trail I think. Hopefully we can find a good home for him soon so I can give my attention to the new thoroughbreds. And my own mare included! haha. We’ve got the big TIP horse show in Kentucky coming up in just two short weeks. I’m going to ride in the Rolex arena. AH. I’ll just puke before every round. It’s all good. Ali should be fit and good to go! Just trying to get the flying changes consistent and complete. She still tends to forget her back feet. haha. There is no horse I would rather be riding there though. I missed her very much at this weekend’s show. I’ve been riding her bareback more often as well (stolen moments between lessons) and it actually lead to an epiphany on lateral movements and we did our first baby half pass as a result :) Plus she was so so careful with me when I asked for a trot. She gave me the tiniest little jog which I appreciated because bareback and thoroughbred withers do not mix. haha. It was nice to feel her topline beefing up too as I was actually able to sit on her comfortably without a spine poking me. Now just plenty of gymnastics, some ‘scary’ fences, more canter figure eights in a big field, and loads of transitions before September 8th!
