He was running late - a fact he blamed on his need for coffee and a sweet treat. Luckily heâd found somewhere open early enough, and now two donuts wrapped in brown paper lay in the passenger seat of his car, alongside a small wrapped box. Heâd known Mackenzie since she was small. The more time went by, the more proud of her he felt - the strength of her magic had increased, sheâd managed to gain entry to one of the most prestigious universities on the planet. But heâd always been unsettled by the feeling that her life wasnât fully hers. Upon learning that after all these years, sheâd never left the boundaries of the city, he immediately set out to change that. Of course, it wasnât without itâs risks. He shifted gears, car slowly coasting as he glanced through the windows, searching for the girl. His eyes settled at last on her silhouette against the rising sun.Â
He smiled, breaking as he unlocked the doors. âGood morning, Kenzie.â His voice was cheerful. He liked mornings. âHope I didnât keep you waiting too long, sorry. You good to go?â He went to move the items from the seat, before looking back to the girl. âOh - I, uh, brought you something from Paris.â
Mackenzie was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet as she kept herself pressed to the tree so nobody saw her. Though, through the excitement, she felt like her heart was about to burst out of her chest and she was so nervous that it was going to end all wrong. But just as she was just about to consider heading back home, she saw the car roll up to a stop and there was no turning back now. For the first time ever, she was going to sneak away and risk the wrath of her family and possibly the Ouroboros.
âAndrew!â Kenz breathed, sliding into the car and giving him a slightly nervous but still very bright smile. âGood morning.â She clipped on the seatbelt, placed her hands in her lap, and could hardly sit still. âYes yes, Iâm good to- What? Really?!â She asked excitedly.
