A confession

I love romance, I love horror stories… But you know what I love most of all? When those two things are combined in some gritty, sometimes even “edgy” way. 

Stories of true love with unproblematic ships are good and pure and I’ll protect them with my life, but I also have this morbid liking for stories about “romance” that are absolutely nothing but. Stories that instead of making you ship them and root for them in the usual sense of those words, it rather makes you think “Yes, these two are the absolutely WORST thing that could have ever happened to each other and to everyone around them”. Double points if, in a twisted sense, it’s what both characters deserve, disturbing implications and all. Sometimes because they both truly belong together in some absolutely awful way, and have reached a point where they wouldn’t be happy anywhere else or with anyone else, or at least that’s what they believe it is, even if the reader might know otherwise. 

Heck, it doesn’t even have to be romantic in nature, it can be platonic as well, as in an oddly heartwarming “found family” story between serial killers for lack of a better example. It just needs to be disturbing as all hell.

Horror stories where the main horror is the toxic, twisted, unhealthy and unromanticized relationship between the main characters, or at least two or more of the side characters. Purity culture can go fuck itself, we need more stories like that.
