While I recognize the irony in opening with the statement that that this is not a fully-thought-through idea, there's a concept that's been chewing at the edges of my brain and I'm going to try to write it out to help formalize it. And if anyone wants to "Yes, and..." or "no, that's not it" to help refine it, please jump in.

The concept that's been going in my head is that "Right and Left" isn't really an effective mechanism to map the current political landscape, not anymore.

Instead, what I'm observing is a large scale movement of various flavors of authoritarian autocrats and their supporters, engaged in alliances of convenience and mutual benefit, whose worldviews are not "reality-based"--they're fundamentally founded on vibes/propaganda/ideology. But they recognize each other as fellow authoritarians, and while they're certainly willing to fight each other, they're more concerned with squashing "centrist liberals"--principled democratic technocrats who are concerned with such things as "facts", "rule of law", and "consistent ideological principles".

The autocrats come in a variety of flavors--Kleptocrats like Trump and Putin, Islamist theocrats like the IRGC and associated, Strasserites and Stalinists like Western Leftists and the DSA, or just good old-fashioned absolute monarchists like Crown Prince Suliman in Saudi Arabia or the leaders of Qatar and the UAE. They all have more in common with each other when it comes to their authoritarianism and rejection of factual reality, and it's why you get things like DSA members in the US finding it easier to engage with people like Trump than centrists (yes, I'm singling out Mamdani for his interactions with the Orange One here).

And from my perspective, it's terrifying just how many of those groups specifically blame The Jews in one form or another for everything wrong in the world.

This really does hit on why I describe myself as an anti authoritarian first politically. Because autocrats are more willing to work with each other to crush any chance of freedom for humanity as a whole than actually sticking to their principles. I first noticed this in my union organizing days when the entire group tore itself apart over russia's invasion of Ukraine. All these die hard anti imperialists flocked to the russian side because NATO evil don't ya know.

They've only gotten worse and more extreme with time and I've found myself increasingly alone in trying to stick to principles like invading other nations is bad. Massacring random people just trying to go about their day is bad. Terrorism is bad (whether it's Left, Right, Islamist, other flavours)

Then there's the Jewhate that you've mentioned which everyone seems to be adding to their repitoire now, even though Jews are just fucking people who deserve to live in peace. It's utterly fucking exhausting explaining to people online and in real life that no, they don't control the world, and no Israel didn't do that thing you just don't read enough actual media or read widely enough to get all the facts.

One repeated refrain I keep seeing from the Pro-Palestinian crowd, from the most virulently Jew-hating to the most Jew-sympathetic, is pretty straightforward.

"Well, after 75 years of how the Palestinians have been treated, can you blame them for the 7/10 attack?"

And the response that I've been itching to give to that...

"So, you're saying that the Nakba was acceptable back in 1948? Because after 1000+ years of mistreatment by Muslim Arabs, including multiple massacres and ethnic cleansing in living memory, that means that the Jews were justified with the Nakba--indeed, they were restrained, because they could have easily done so much worse, and the Palestinians Arabs hadn't had any mistreatment yet at the hands of the Jews. There was a clear side who had been the victims (the Jews) and a clear side who had been the victimizers for over a thousand years, as the Muslims been the ones doing the mistreatment to the Jews. If you're saying that 75 years of marginalization justifies mass rape and murder, then the Israelis in 1948 would have been justified in killing every single proto-Palestinian Arab by that same metric.

"No? That's different? How? How is it different? Explain to me how it's different without using the word 'colonizer', because a vast number of the Jews who lived there were unquestionably native and had never been living elsewhere. Sure, they were just a portion of the Jewish population as a whole, but so are the Palestinian militants. Would someone whose family had been butchered in the 1929 Hebron Massacre not be justified in taking out their hate on other Arabs? Because that's the standard you're promoting now. How is it different?

It's cuz that's all they know about Jewishness. People "get bar-mitzvahed" and they are forbidden from eating pork. To not "get bar-mitzvahed" or to choose to eat pork is transgressive... But also guilt-inducing!

It's just so ignorant. You become bar-mitzvah whether you have a public ceremony about it or not and people engage with kashrut in all sorts of ways.

Truly, in the most cynical core of my Jewish heart, I think this goyishe obsession with making Jewish characters eat treyf is the same as it ever was. Did you know that there are rules for kashrut for plain, unprocessed milk? Not milk-products. Straight milk. And this is because - I kid you not - in the Middle Ages, Christians would go through the weird labor of milking their pigs and sneaking the sow's milk into Jewish milk barrels. There's some perverse fascination with making a person do something they don't want to do. (You can see this also with people tricking vegans into eating animal products or that infamous post about someone vending full-sugar soda to "skinny girls" who order diet.)

But it's especially egregious to do this to Jewish characters because of the millenia of history of real people doing real bullshit like this to real Jews.

The antisemitism of it all is utter bullshit but this post did remind me of a Jewish man who came up from New York during the same week every Summer to my hometown visiting a restaurant I worked at.

He'd order a double bacon cheeseburger every time consistently over the course of 4 years. I asked him once why he does this, his logic? God can't see me when I'm on vacation away from New York because I'm not where he thinks I am. Pretty reasonable logic if you ask me.

This was just after the Camp David Summit.

It's also important to point out that this act of vandalism destroyed historical evidence of our history in Israel.

See, the Waqf's illegal excavation of the Temple Mount has a part two: The Temple Mount Sifting Project. We know where all the rubble was dumped, and this organization, with the help of hundreds of thousands of volunteers, has spent decades sifting through it for all the priceless archeological treasures.

But one of the most important elements of an archeological find, perhaps the most important element, is the context. Not only where it was found, but how deep. What was above it? What was it above?

And all of that context was permanently, irrevocably destroyed. If a 3000 year old shard is found, we have to ask: has it been there for three thousand years? Or could it have spent two thousand years elsewhere before being moved?

If the Temple Mount hadn't been desecrated, we'd find that shard in a layer of debris that would prove how long it had been there. But as is, we can't be totally certain. We can't prove it.

I've volunteered with the sifting project twice. The first time, I found a piece of Herodian tile--that is, the specific type of tile that he used in all his major building projects, which we also see at Masada.

I held in my hands corroboration of the contemporary account of Herod renovating the Temple and adding the retaining walls and plaza that are still standing today, the structure the Dome of the Rock was built on.

But that evidence, and every other piece of evidence the project finds, has, and always will have, an asterisk.

A bit of room for doubt that will always be there, because the religious authority descended from the conquerors of the land deliberately destroyed the evidence of the cultural history that predated their presence.

And yet, somehow, we are the real imperialist colonizers, and our presence is the real desecration.

The destruction of the context is huge here, I'm just a Pagan archaeologist, but the loss of all that information is devastating for the history of the Jewish people. Only roughly 1% of all material culture survives into the archaeological record. Any destruction of that is criminal and, when practiced at scale evidence of cultural erasure, a hallmark of genocide.

When you factor in the fact that Jews are so so few, the amount of material culture within the archaeological is infinitesimally more finite, especially when compared to say the Roman Empire or the Arab Conquest. The scale and depth of just this incident of Temple Mount looting (note the Jordanian government also did significant damage during their occupation of the West Bank, this is not an isolated incident) is unimaginable.

The deliberate destruction of cultural heritage is an atrocity in itself and should be recognized as such.
