As these days go on, I am finding there is no greater comfort than knowing God. His actions, His promises, His character. God is good. God is sovereign. God is faithful. God is just. God does not forget His promises. God does not forsake us. Cling to Him. Know Him. God is with us.

Prayer changes things.

also today’s gospel has another of my favorite lines in which John immortalizes forever that he runs faster than Peter.

I’m so glad other people find this funny. It’s even funnier to me because he doesn’t say “I” he says “the disciple whom Jesus loved” got there first. Just… you know, in case Peter told the story otherwise. Just writing this down so that all of history knows that they both ran “but the disciple whom Jesus loved reached the tomb first.”

Because you gotta know, in the adrenaline-high aftermath of the resurrection, when everyone is freaking out and crying and laughing and telling their story over and over again to anyone who will listen, Peter said something and then John said something and then it was this huge, best-friends, inside joke about “Ok, yeah — but I got there first.” “Yeah, John, but I’m the one who went inside!”

And years later, when he’s writing all this down, I can just see John smirking as he adds the line, “but the disciple whom Jesus loved reached the tomb first.” And then he sits there laughing for like, ten minutes, picturing the look on Peter’s face when he reads the completed manuscript.
