“Whether he was an asshole or not, no one deserves to get murdered.” Beck said and shrugged as they walked. “Unlike you, it seems, I have at least some humanity. Taking someone else’s life just doesn’t seem right to me no matter what they did.” And then it. hit him what Oz had said. “What, you? What did he do to you?” He asked. Beckett didn’t know Oz’s legal name or really anything about his history. He wanted to know, he wanted to know everything about Oz, but Oz was closed off and refused to do anything about that, which was mostly the reason they had stopped things in the first place. “Look, I don’t want to talk about it anymore than that. It freaks me out. And really, I’m fine walking home alone. I don’t need you.”
“Humanity? Because there’s so much of that going around right now. It doesn’t seem right because it’s not your life he messed with” laughter fell from Oz’s lips, amazed at how trivial Beck made it sound. Even if in the end it was his decision too pull the trigger, Oz felt it had long been justified “So do you or don’t want to know? I was actually thinking about telling you, but like if you want to continue to show me how much of a tough guy you are, then you can just trot off in your big boy pants” Oz didn’t hesitate as he turned away from Beck. This was the exact reason Oz never got too personal with people. The ones he thought he could trust always let him down, and the fact that Beck had come to his mind first after his crime was nothing more than a regret at the moment.
