WHAT THE FUUUUUUCK ME ME ME ME ME ME
genuinely in hysterics over this image actual united states senator ted cruz posted on twitter
- he watermarked it
- trains run on tracks so the point of the whole meme around who's steering it makes zero sense
- trains also don't have road signs
- i really don't think ted cruz has ever been on a train before
- bernie looks so happy at the front of the train it makes me feel like i'm five and he's the conductor of the train on the children's TV show i was invited to attend a live taping of
- no seriously i don't think ted cruz knows what a train is i think this should be the new "it's a banana what could it cost michael" in terms of rich people being hilariously out of touch with every day reality
- help

Black Scientists and Engineers Past and Present Enable NASA Space Telescope
The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is NASA’s next flagship astrophysics mission, set to launch by May 2027. We’re currently integrating parts of the spacecraft in the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center clean room.
Once Roman launches, it will allow astronomers to observe the universe like never before. In celebration of Black History Month, let’s get to know some Black scientists and engineers, past and present, whose contributions will allow Roman to make history.
Dr. Beth Brown
The late Dr. Beth Brown worked at NASA Goddard as an astrophysicist. in 1998, Dr. Brown became the first Black American woman to earn a Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Michigan. While at Goddard, Dr. Brown used data from two NASA X-ray missions – ROSAT (the ROentgen SATellite) and the Chandra X-ray Observatory – to study elliptical galaxies that she believed contained supermassive black holes.
With Roman’s wide field of view and fast survey speeds, astronomers will be able to expand the search for black holes that wander the galaxy without anything nearby to clue us into their presence.

First up, They really want to make sure that we know this is purely a study and not construction or development of any lines
Next the FRA establishes that the criteria they are using to decide on routes, which is pretty good criteria, basically access unserved regions of the US both large and small, try to help lower income and rural communities with the new routes, make the overall network better connected and more usable, and finally take into account the wants and needs of the public
They then give us this map from the previous meeting to better help show what the possibilities could be, this is not the map of what routes were selected for further study, this is simply a base for us to work off of
The FRA is apparently pretty confident that the Cardinal and Sunset Limited will get daily service given that they assume it will happen for the study
And there's the Map we have been waiting for, the 15 lines that were selected for further study
If I'm honest the MSP-Pheonix and the South Dakota Line were not what I was going to bet on, Houston to New York is also a big surprise to me
In case you were curious about the statistics of the new lines.
Anyways here it is, the queen, the icon, the line we have all been waiting for:
Chicago-Louisville-Nashville-ATL-Miami is moving forward
It has some chances for various different alignments South of Atlanta, I personally support the alternatives that go through Savannah. But this is seriously one of the most important gaps in the network for the us to fill and we finally are getting a real chance at it being filled. This connects 3 of the nation's most important cities as well as hits 3 major cities that are not part of the current network with Louisville, Nashville, and Chattanooga
YASSSS I really think this "Chicago-Louisville-Nashville-ATL-Miami" the most important long distance route that should happen. The need to include Nashville on the national train network is big, and giving people from the Midwest an alternatives from flying or driving to Florida I think would produce a good amount of vacation travelers. My only concerns are, number one funding (Please Amtrak Joe give them yearly funding for this), number two is speed. this service existed from 1971 to 1979 and they say the on-time performance was terrible and it took forever. They estimate 36hr from CHI->MIA that's not great, but over the whole route mileage that is an average about 42mph. I just wish Amtrak could buy or upgrade more track along the route since it is estimated by Google to take 22hr by car. Something from 26hrs to 32hr I think would be super competitive then with cars.
Long Live the Revolution (but I am talking about a green transport Revolution where we massively expand public transportation, electrify the main lines of the American Rail industry and power it all with a mix of Wind, Tidal, Solar and Nuclear power)
