I'm not an avid shipper in any way, but the connotations which are introduced by the assumption that the feelings brewing between Kaladin and Moash were beyond even those of friendship and deep camaraderie just make the nerrative click better for me. Kal's discomfort with being put in a position of near worship and reverent veneration by the rest of the bridgemen, which makes him seek Moash's reflex hostility to his authority as something humanising and welcome. Moash's intense loyalty to his captain after he has proven himself to him, snappy and scrambling for approval. The way they understand each other's pain so keenly, or rather desire their pain sympathised with and their experiences shared, they both let it influence their perception of the other to the point the image is more resembling of their own. They see themselves in each other's places, and project onto each other almost with a desperation to be understood. "Maybe that’s why I understand you. Maybe that’s why you understand me." Ultimately, they misread each other to such an extreme, painful extent that could only, like a twisted paradox, come from a place of extreme understanding. They betrayed each other in equal measures. It is not a pretty picture. It is profoundly passionate, romantic or platonic or something else entirely. They came to each other so close they ended up on the other side, facing opposite directions. But it certainly isn't anything as normal as just a friendship or a brotherly feeling.

wild how people will throw shade at stormlight archives books and go on to describe stuff that is like. exactly what you like about them. like yeah sorry chief but i'm the sicko that WANTS the complicated magic system and WANTS the huge pagecount that gives us ample time to worldbuild and to go on various asides about what Rumpus Stormsquibble is doing in the kingdom of Crumberfuck. Yeah actually I *want* this fifty page thing about some completely different dude I've never heard of doing something completely different, because whatever it is is probably cool as hell actually. I ain't here to get to the point, I'm here to get *immersed* because the real world is a horror show and at least when *these* people have problems there's a hell of a lot more they can actually *do* about them.

So, i had an idea for a book cover and just had to draw it

Lots of jokes abt Kaladin's Tien and the like and I love those but also I do not see enough discussion abt the grief Kaladin had for Tien.

Because one of the things about grief is sometimes you aren't haunted in a purely negative sense by those you've lost. Sometimes they haunt you and you take comfort in who they were. In the choices they'd make and what they'd hope for. You take comfort in being haunted by their love even as the loss of them breaks you. It doesn't make you into anything to be haunted, but you hold onto it.

Because the thing is. I lost my mom in 2017, and she haunts me. She was wonderful, and kind, and gentle. Her memory haunts me and comforts me in the same breath. Kaladin by the time of Wind and Truth, Kaladin is about 6 years removed from Tien's death if I remember right? And the thing is I'm 8 years removed from losing my mom and I do fully examine the world through the lens of my loss, especially when I see pain or grief I relate to. It's the way I'm able to quantify and understand, only through my own experiences.

Idk I totally get the jokes and I think they're funny too, but it is completely realistic for Kaladin to view other grief and struggles he sees thru the lens of his own grief and pain. It's imperfect, and with the way Kaladin is, his way of explaining can be clunky or messy, but I get it.
