the first time he hits her you will ask, “why did you not leave?” you will be puzzled by the idea that she could not only tolerate but adore such a coarse man, yet you forget since she was a child she has been told by her mother and father that they strike her out of love, out of discipline; after all tough love is still love. so, when he strikes her why would she think it to be anything other than that—love? - unlearn the idea that love must come with pain.
