SPRING 2018 Collection ~ Years ago when I was first starting out in home furnishings retail... I went to the Gift Show in Atlanta, GA...it was July of 1997. I found so many beautiful items. My showroom at that time was in the Northern CA Wine Country...and the decor I focused on was for seasonal, casual Wine Country living. I came across a woman who was selling Dinnerware from Provence. I can not tell you how many hours I spent in her booth...looking at all the beautiful pieces of dinnerware, platters, bowls, and salt and pepper cellars. Everything had a story. I placed a sizable order, and waited for its delivery. It was amazingly beautiful...and the response was beyond enthusiastic. Word of mouth traveled and soon there were visitors from Carmel and beyond.Sometimes I think retail is much like gambling. SPRING 2018 Collection ~ Is it just me, or do we all accumulate stories as time passes? I remember the first set of Gien dishes I puchased. It was in San Francisco at Gumps. I was a young woman just outfitting my first real home...and I went to Gumps. In those days the store was in an old building, and the elevator stopped at your floor with a THUD. But anyone who was anyone knew GUMP's had the best. I wandered onto what I recall as the 3rd floor where there was the most amazing dinnerware, crystal, flatware, sterling...and a very old lady who worked there came over to ask if she could help. It was when times were more civilized than today, because if you ask that question now...you are shouted down by "CAN I JUST LOOK?". I took her over to set of dinnerware I liked and she brought them out of the back room for me to inspect. I loved them, and said I would take them...as she was preparing the invoice she told me to make sure I always stored the dinnerware when not using them in the original cartons...and never, ever discard the cartons.
