Get the Hair—» Genevieve’s 2015 Mid Haircut

We’ve had a lot of requests for another haircut How To so we’ve teamed up with Carley once again. Bellow is a simple guide featuring a few technical terms to help you best describe Genevieve’s mid length do’.

1 | For the base, you want your stylist to start with what is called a square cut on wet hair. This particular cut means that the hair is the same length all the way around.

2 | Once the base has been cut, your stylist should then add long layers about an inch to two inches shorter than your overall cut. If you follow the arrows in the first image, you can see where Genevieve’s layers blend into the rest of her hair. This is to add volume and movement, and to take out bulk as Genevieve has quite thick hair. Remember to talk to your stylist about getting the most out of your own texture and making the cut work for you.

3 | For the front portion of your hair, ask for face framing layers that are long enough to tuck behind your ear but short enough that you can style them to look like a side fringe (or bangs) if you so wish.

4A | Finally, your stylist should blow dry and smooth your hair, and then add further texturing if needed. Genevieve’s hair in the first image is her natural texture (we suspect she washed it the day before and roughly dried it with a hairdryer or let it air dry). The second image her hair has been styled with slight waves on the ends, so its up to you which you’d like to ask your hairdresser for.
