home is wherever you are - Gen. 3.5k. Set in OoTP. Sirius’ scent—cigarettes; clove and tobacco and smoke—has always reminded Harry of safety & home.

just a measly couple thousand eords but!!!!!! insanely big deal. it always is after a prolonged period of writers block.
james has the most perfect body ever and he's marked 24/7 because sirius cannot keep his mouth off him for longer than three minutes at a time. he is gnawing at james' back. hes biting james' arms.

but okay. so it was not a pantsing. it was more,, a robesing? cause yknow he wasn't wearing pants? i'm nitpicking there but yeah. i like to call it a robesing (but it is basically the same)
now pantsing (robesing in wizarding world) was a VERY common thing. especially in the 70s but like,, boys did it to other boys they didn't like or even their friends like all the time when i was at school too?? it was fairly common tbh, and would've been even more common in the 70s.
and the whole 2 v 1 thing is so stupid i fear. ofc they're gonna go after him when he's not with like mulciber, avery, etc. that's what you do??? why would you purposefully outnumber yourself??? (and severus and his friends would've done/100% did the same thing to the marauders AND other students (muggleborns)).
^plus james purely did it cause sirius was bored. sirius is a mean 16 yr old that hates blood supremacists. ofc he is gonna enjoy making fun of/bullying a blood supremacist. (and same with james too)
i think the main takeaway from that scene tbh is NOT the actual pantsing or anything. it is 1. peter enjoyed watching it immensely despite not wanting to participate himself, 2. lily's hint of a smile, 3. the end of lily & severus' friendship
severus wasn't shocked (he expects sirius & james to go after him), but severus can fight back quite well (goes for his wand to attack back, would've likely succeded in attacking them back if his friends were with him & likely would've used much much darker and more harmful magic on them than they used on him)
severus didn't become a blood supremacist because sirius & james bullied him, they bullied him because he was a blood supremacist <3
hard agree w both sides (but more so, the ‘icocnic’ 🤌) and also would like to add:
snape created the spell in the first place. he was the one who made a spell where u can levitate robed individuals in the air by one foot.presumably knowing it would flip their robes over their head/above them etc etc. he did that. it is literally his own creation biting him in the ass (or pants, as it were)
how did james and co come to know about it? can’t see them flipping through their own textbooks, let alone snape’s, so they must have heard it somewhere, i’m gonna assume. wonder where….
(also tangentially, not at all related ofc, how did remus know sectumsempra was snape’s signature spell when death eaters were masked and they didn’t know ab him in the first war? could it be…hm…he was throwing it around willy nilly amidst the hogwarts grounds? possibilities, possibilities…)
james would’ve adored the heck out of hermione for brewing the polyjuice in 2nd year (illega animagi anyone?) and also, for keeping rita locked up in a jar. oh and punching an asshole classmate in the face.
i know this is probably meant to be along the lines of ‘that disgusting fascist i’m morally and ideologically fighting against, teach ME?’ but i’m also just. so in love w the idea of arrogant sirius (canon) who looks down upon voldemort and just cannot imagine being shown anything new by that poser.
and just, so many angles to it also.
- simple arrogance of the youth where u think ur invincible and ur enemies are idiots. would 10/10 look down upon the idea that the ‘other side’ would have anything worthwhile to teach u
- but even better, sirius has seen voldemort fight and is just. so unimpressed w him. like. ‘omg what is he doing that’s SO basic’ (bc of my hc about sirius and magic and intuition etc etc) and he’s just like. this man, this monster, who wields magic like a blunt hammer and not the beautifully, precisely carved dagger it must be, is not someone i can ever take seriously.
- also, this is interesting hc territory bc afaik he didn’t know about the riddle roots at the time (or maybe….and this is another hc i’ve always been obsessed with…walburga told him?) but! imagine a sirius who knows that voldemort is a half blood from a muggle orphanage. try as he might, he is still a black at heart, still walburga’s son, and just as he cannot stop himself from comparing peter to filth, and looking down his nose haughtily at those he considers inferior, so too can he not fully accept voldemort. something along the lines of…’that upstart, teach ME, the scion of house black? we’ve forgotten more magic in the last two centuries than he’s ever managed to even glance at, and you think he can teach me?’ not like, blood superiority exactly, but def some form of us vs them mentality. just, so delicious.
(also want to mention the sheer comedy of pettigrew shrieking about dark magic when that fool knows full well about padfoot and has, in fact, been surviving due to the same ‘magic’ as sirius. he was fully banking on the chaos of the moment so that no one looked deeper into his words, u just know. which, huh, can be another reason sirius is laughing—‘voldemort teach me? we did this together you idiot, and james and i had to teach you’ just disbelieving laughter at the pitch pettigrew decides to go w)
Tbh I'm surprised more people don't write Barty Crouch Jr. as a perv. Obvs the real moody wasn't the kind to misuse his magical eye, thts probably y most ppl ignore tht scene during the yule ball in gof where moody comments on Harry's socks and Parvati calls his eye creepy. But we know now tht it wasn't moody, so wtf was Barty using tht eye for?? U can't convince me it was just to look at ppl's socks and feet
nobody talks about the split second realization - the cold , gut wrenching truth that james must have had - that his bestfriend , his brother in all but blood , had handed them over to die
nobody talks about the guilt that must have consumed him as he stood wandless , knowing he had trusted the wrong hands with everything he loved
nobody talks about how his trust was turned into a weopen against him
nobody talks about how james didn’t just die protecting his family but carrying the unbearable amount of betrayal and guilt
nobody talks about the fact that maybe james potter’s last thoughts was to not only to protect his family but also thinking how could he?
nobody talks about james potter - the boy who loved hard , laughed loud , had a bravery that never faltered , died with betrayal in his heart
i just remembered that canonically, sirius got to godrics hollow after hagrid.
which means that after he had his godson taken away from him (bc lbr that’s exactly what hagrid and dumbledore’s orders basically did) then he went into the house and saw james and lily’s dead bodies alone. no buffer in the form of harry crying out for his parents or even the godfatherly instinct of making sure his kid is alright.
he was there, with his brother and friend’s cooking body, all alone. stewing in grief and pain and rage and guilt. ALONE.
do we even know how long he was there? for all we know, he could’ve been catatonic right there besides james all day.
One of my most hot take hp confessions is that, unfortunately, if I imagine teenage/young adult Sirius, I do think of Ben Barnes solely bc of all the edits I wound up seeing when I first got into the Marauders
