"Hans Capon on the hunt" prep'

As usual, here is my first draft of the project using Derwent's "Drawing" colour pencils.

Needless to say, I underestimated the sheer number of details I would face when I started the project, so, of course, I added more by adding a forest background. Apparently, I prefer to work overwhelmed.

But one thing is for sure: I wouldn't have had the confidence to add those trees if I hadn't studied Sir George Frederic Watts' Sir Galahad two years ago, using the exact same pencils. If you spot similarities between this project and my old one, titled Chevaleresse, that is why.

This project has therefore been a nice reminder of why studies are so important. You learn from them in ways you might not be able to realize until one day, out of the blue, you do. A study of an old master's painting helped me create this intricate piece of art that I can absolutely be proud of two years later.

So... yeah, artists, study.
