That’s it. That’s his whole character.
This is some truth laid down right here boy.
Millennials have essentially been forced into a perpetual teenagerhood by socioeconomic circumstance, we desperately want to grow up, and we’re worried that we’re running out of time to do so
Not all heroes wear capes??? Yeah, that’s because some of us listened to Edna Mode, you Buffoon™.
I don’t think a lot of people really understand that ecosystems in North America were purposefully maintained and altered by Native people.
Like, we used to purposefully set fires in order to clear underbrush in forests, and to inhibit the growth of trees on the prairies. This land hasn’t existed in some primeval state for thousands of years. What Europeans saw when they came here was the result of -work-
I hate this “no spoilers” culture that we live in right now. Producers and writers are so terrified of fans predicting the ending to their works to the point that they’re making nonsensical endings to their narratives. They’re messy, out-of-character, and outlandish, but, hey! at least they’re unpredictable!
Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi — completely ignored & disregarded the 3-film narrative arc J.J. Abrams has planned out for the sequel trilogy, and instead developed his own messy narrative full of subversions for the sake of subversion, and completely disrespected the legacy of Luke Skywalker’s character (Mark Hamill himself has reported several times that he doesn’t recognize the character).
Russos, MCU — give out fake scripts, actors play against green screens and are cut & pasted together in post, show fake/edited scenes in trailers, throw away previous character development (Thor, Ragnarok vs Infinity War and especially Endgame).
D&D, Game of Thrones — throw away a decade of foreshadowing and character development for shock value, not to mention they missed a whole ass Starbucks cup in a shot in 8x03 (either on set or in post, somebody should’ve noticed this).
I’m sick and tired of this. It’s not good writing, and it’s no longer entertaining to fans when the characters they know and love become complete strangers. There’s good shock value — “No, I am your father,” for example — and then there’s ignoring years of character development and turning a kind and caring character into a murderous maniac. There’s a difference, and I think writers still know what that difference is, but they’re pressured to create an ending that fans can’t predict because of this mass panic over “no spoilers”.
This needs to stop. Give me a happy ending. Who the fuck cares if we guess what comes next? That means the writers have done their fucking jobs. If we can guess what comes next that means the writers have successfully developed their characters and foreshadowed future events as you’re supposed to do in a well-written narrative.
No spoilers? Sure. I like to experience narratives without being spoiled. But don’t make the narrative unrecognizable by the ending. It’s just not good writing.
Honestly if your that worried about spoilers leaking out why not just issue a fake press release saying that you’ve deliberately had “Fake” spoilers leaked so that way no one will know if spoilers they read online are true or not
That way you can keep the plot twists surprising because people will not know if the spoilers they read are true or not
That seems a more sensible solution than these
I will continue to say that Rian Johnson did the best Star Wars movie in 30+ years and created a new energy that was better than JJs Star Wars - The New Class.
Game of Thrones was just terrible, they made it unpredictable by simply having everyone do the most cliché thing based on their season 3 motivations. No one could have predicted that everyone reverted. Or that the heel turn would happen like that.
I’m also opposed to plot twists for the sake of plot twists. It’s making hollow media. Game of Thrones didn’t have twwwwists, it had repercussions for actions. Now it just has coin flips “heads I kill everyone, tails I kill me enemies”
I’m with OP on this one. I though Last Jedi was a mess. The story served to set up a couple ‘cool scenes’, and didn’t follow any of the continuity set up by the earlier films (fighters have to stay within 200 yards of their ship? Since when?) I’ll give Rian a pass(ish) on Luke because someone wrote him into that corner, but he blatantly ignored what happened in Episode VII.
The big problem some of these Star Wars films have is that they forget that Star Wars is science-fantasty and not science-fiction. Star Wars is Lord of the Rings, NOT Game of Thrones.
Even Rogue One, which I thought was pretty good: they portrayed the Rebels as being just as cut throat as the Empire. But as long as they were doing it for the greater good that was okay. NOPE. WRONG. The Rebels have to be like the Fellowship. They have to be noble and pure in spirit because as soon as they taint their souls they are no longer worthy of defeating the great evil.
This is so basic to the foundations of the Star Wars universe.
I generally agree with that. I’d say Rogue One works as a Star Wars Film in part because it does surprise us by how cut throat the rebels are, but by the end, they all die for the greater good. It makes good on its premise and validates some of their actions when it shows that they are just as willing to die for their cause. It’s the same reason Boromir has to die after he goes nuts over the ring. He is redeemed when he realizes what he’s done and sacrifices himself. I’d say it’s a similar story just drawn out a bit more.
But I’d also agree that The Last Jedi was a mess narratively, though honestly not because it subverted expectations but because it thought it did. TLJ repeated all of the same story beats from Force Awakens and wanted us to be shocked by them. Kyle Ren is evil and unredeemable??? Oh wait, we already knew that from when he MURDERED HIS FATHER. Rey is the next Jedi??? Well yeah, anyone who was paying any attention to the last film already knew that she was the Chosen One for this trilogy.
The only expectation it subverted for me was that Poe, Finn, and Rose would actually do something during this movie. Instead, they got a lot of screen time that was just wasted on a ton of absolute NOTHING. There was like one line of social commentary when they went to the casino planet and then… none of it mattered to the narrative. Like yeah, characters can fail in their goals, but generally there should be some CONSEQUENCES for that failure. The situation should become more dire. Instead, their little side plot felt like a filler episode. It was a complete waste of the actors’ talent.
Most of my followers know that I’m not a huge fan of JJ Abrams. His work on Star Trek proved that he really didn’t care for the franchise and didn’t respect how important it was to fans. Watching Force Awakens was a plot experience for me, because it showed what a good job the guy can do when he actually respects the source material. If he’d taken a similar approach with Star Trek, I don’t think we ever would’ve ended up with what we got from Into Darkness.
But he did love and respect Star Wars and he was setting up a few different narrative threads that were then just… dropped. That’s a frustrating experience as a movie-goer. You don’t set something up and then pull the rug out from under your audience and expect them to be happy about it.
You can do big twists and have them be satisfying. Jordan Peele has proven that you can do that. Get Out and Us both had phenomenal twists. One of them surprised me completely, and for one I actually guessed it at the very beginning. I was happy when each was revealed though because they were JUSTIFIED.
Having Kylo tell Rey that her parents are no one and she’s a no one and that we are just supposed to believe him on his word when we know he is deceitful? Dissatisfying. Making Rey come from “nothing” to rise up into a power Jedi is a great story and could be really impactful, but then you’ve discarded all the emphasis you’ve built up around her parentage for the entire first film. So if you want to do that, you need to do so in a way that is satisfying. Having the villain deliver the news while insulting her in a way that’s a red flag for emotional abuse is… not the way to do that effectively.

Bead animals were my JAM in the 90’s!! And you don’t have to limit your creativity to lizards, either! With a few adjustments, you can make anything!
AND with a little practice, you can even make them 3D shaped (especially with the smaller beads and wire, though you can make them with the bigger beads and string, to an extent)

He’s wanting to do this to his home:
He submitted the proposal to the Kensington and Chelsea Borough Council and the plan was rejected because the proposed four-foot-high railings (fence) and simple cast iron gate (which was chosen purely privacy and security for the front of the home) were considered “too domestic” looking for the former industrial area. The council gave Sheeran a list of options for privacy “railings”, and after changing the proposal Sheeran was given permission that was more in line with the neighbourhood, which is in a conservation area. A direct quote from Sheeran states: “Dear Natalie Edwards from The Sun newspaper. Your story is bollocks, I have done lots of work in the past for Crisis and Shelter and would never build railings outside my home for that reason. The reason was to keep the paps that you employ from being on my doorstep. Have a good day.” this comment has been substantiated by the local police and security companies that Sheeran and his neighbours have had to contact previously when paparazzi have been taking photographs not only of Sheeran’s house but inside his windows, and constantly knocking on his door and yelling outside his house. Think about this for a moment, a guy bought a house and fixed it up, he was trying to gain some privacy by asking for a simple fence and gate to indicate the property line and gain some distance from the paps, - which the police and council said was fine - and the newspapers who can no longer use these ill-gotten photos and are probably pissed have managed to spin this story to make it seem that this guy (whether you like his music or not), is an asshole and is anti-homeless. And you’re all eating this shit up and believing the newspapers, even though the Sun and Telegraph are well known across the UK for making shit up and lying. smh.
Hi, please know that this is completely false. Ed Sheeran is not installing anti homeless stuff near his home.
