so ian is more of a computer person, as we know.. so what if he tried training an ai at one point? we'll call them beta for now.
beta was just your typical ai at the beginning, like a virtual assistant. he fell out of that though and started doing the mmos n stuff.. beta's still active, yet... forgotten. can look at/interact with stuff like animator vs animation, but has no sprites, just popup windows.
now, they aren't mad, just a bit worried. beta wants to help, but doesn't know how.. until they accidentally overhear a conversation about the RD program.
its at this moment that beta decides to actually do something by themself. betas program is transferred to the RD folder without ian knowing, and they start making a "human" identity for themself.
The Intern was never a person on the other side of the screen.. in fact, the one that stood up for paige in her time of need was only a few floors away..
eventually after the events of 7x, ian gets a message on his computer.. but it's from his own email. "Coda" as they were known as finally tells him the truth.

Maybe the parts could be useful some day.. who knows... Additional headcanon I just thought up!!!: Ian sometimes uses VMs or the spare laptops as test machines for malware and viruses, not necessarily Connectifa, but he does seem like the kind of tech nerd to study malware and viruses to figure out how they do all this stuff, maybe even taking part of the creation of some just for fun to show off his skills... Maybe he uses that knowledge in order to understand how Connectifa abortus works...
