A couple of months ago I was browsing BenefitCosmetics.Com‘s products and noticed this cute little offer they had going. It’s a Custom Makeup Kit that costs $79.00 USD. I was planning on buying all of the products I got in the available combinations, so I decided to buy it. A couple of weeks later, when it arrived, I was thrilled. The bag is lovely and Benefit always impress me with their products.

I keep all my Benefit purchases in this cute little bag that came with this deal. For a small makeup bag, it actually has quite a lot of room. It’s a wonderful travel size bag for makeup. I’m so happy with this purchase.

What I use for Flawless Foundation. Laura Mercier!

It’s hard to find a really great foundation. The way foundation interacts with an individual’s skin is a very personal journey! There isn’t one standard type of foundation for everyone. Foundation is not created equally! Sometimes a high end brand might end up being right for you, but to someone else, it’s a disaster and a waste of money. I’m always on the lookout for foundation that will work with my dry, sensitive skin. In the past I’d get so frustrated when I’d apply a foundation and it had great potential when it would be flawless for the first hour or so, but then it would start to dry my skin out the later the day got! I can only vouch for those of us who get the dryness with our skin, because oily skin is something I’ve never had an issue with. By the end of the day my face would feel like a barren wasteland, with tumbleweed rolling across it and scorched animal carcasses …. Obviously not literally, but you get the picture.

I might have come close to finding my perfect foundation for my routine with a little help from Laura Mercier.

I’m currently loving three products of primer and foundations. When I don’t feel like doing a full face of makeup, say if I’m going to an early Sunday breakfast cafe with my husband, I put on a bit of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser (SPF 20). It has enough light coverage to make me feel confident enough that I don’t LOOK like I’ve just rolled out of bed (when I actually have).

For my normal full coverage I start with the Laura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer because I know that my dry skin needs that extra boost of hydration before I apply my makeup, that sometimes moisturiser just won’t do for me.

Then I top it off with Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. I have two shades. Soft Ivory and Rose Ivory. Depending on whether I’ve been out in the sun in recent times or a shut in for months on end, I blend the two to match my skin tone exactly. This foundation is creamy, blends like a dream, doesn’t dry my skin out and it gives me long lasting, full coverage throughout the day.

I know that you can purchase Laura Mercier from Sephora in the US and I did just that when I was there in November 2014, but here in Australia, David Jones has the rights to sell this brand. When I’m not holidaying in the US, I buy all my Laura Mercier products from David Jones! The below banner is a link to their site. Furless Brush Set Review! Vegan & Cruelty Free!

A few months ago, Furless Cosmetics were kind enough to send me one of their Purple Power Brush Sets for me to try out. I hadn’t heard of their brand before, but when they got in touch with me I decided to research their brand. I quickly recognised that they conduct themselves with morals in mind, with a high standard for business ethics (noted in various places on their website), from being vegan friendly, cruelty free, donating to an Australian wildlife fund to being body positive and promoting self esteem based on merit, not looks. I liked the cut of their jib, so I decided to accept their offer to test out their brush set.

It arrived 2 days later, which was impressively fast. It came inside a travel size lavender faux leather case. The inside lining unveiled 8 well constructed, purple tipped makeup brushes. I thought they were gorgeous just by aesthetics, so I couldn’t wait to try them. The bristles are soft, good quality, synthetic fibre attached to a sturdy handle. The powder brush is soft, which I prefer my powder brushes to be. The contour brush is the same, soft and luxurious. The two fluffy eyeshadow blending brushes are firmer than their larger brush sisters! I was happy about this because they work perfectly with cream eyeshadows. Until that time, I hadn’t found a firm enough blending brush for my cream shadow, but it has now been found!

I decided to put them to the test. It’s been about 2 months. They’ve been washed around 5 times now, I haven’t lost a single synthetic hair from any of the brushes. They’re great quality, extremely cute brushes that are friendly for animal lovers, if you’re conscientious of that kind of thing (I believe we should all at least strive to be). I definitely recommend that you check Furless Cosmetics out. The Purple Power Brush Set retails at $89.99 AUD. Benefit Roller Lash, First Impression!

When I heard about this alleged miraculous mascara that would supposedly make me want to throw out my eyelash curlers, I had to know what it was about. Benefit Cosmetics have come up with a new mascara, advertising a “pretty curl”, something that not many brands of mascaras can brag about. The Roller Lash mascara promises to “hook, lift and curl!” and I wanted to put that to the test!

It needs to be said that all of Benefit’s packaging is ridiculously adorable. I love their use of peachy corals and pinks for many of their products. It’s the first thing that really grabs my attention. It’s kitschy 1950’s housewife, and I’m digging it (even though I really dig my 2015 women’s rights even more than their brand aesthetic, just in case anyone interprets that the wrong way). The Roller Lash is a long, sleek mascara tube with an extremely cute, light pastel coral/orange applicator. It’s meant to look like a hair curler, and it’s freaking delightful. I’m sold on the packaging.

Okay, so moving on to the applicator… I’m a little disappointed that the bristles on the applicator are so tiny, but I can understand why they needed to make it like that. Upon application I noticed that the formula of the mascara is extremely fast drying and can be quite sticky if you’re not quick to apply it exactly where it needs to go. It’s clear that practice is required! I feel that on a very bristles-y applicator, it would get too gunked up, too quickly, which is why they have chosen to use short rubber bristles.

For me, the bristles are really the only downside, and maybe the consistency of the formula, but perhaps this was the only way to add the curl enhancing element, so I can forgive them and try to find a better way to apply it! BECAUSE ultimately, it works! It does turn your lashes up!

I liked the volume and I liked the curl that I achieved using it. I think I may need to practice application a few times, because I feel that it’s just a matter of once you get it right, it’s going to pay off! It is my very first impression of this product, but it’s my new mascara and I’m using it until the tube runs dry. I’ll give you an update once I’ve use it for a while, but right now I’m pretty happy with the results! Try it out for yourself to see if you’ll like it.
