A little symbolism meme for my take on poor, sweet Tatyana. More info under the cut (which my dear players should not open!)

Instead of being a Barovian commoner, I'm focusing on ancient ideas of homeland/country, so my Tatyana is a foreigner to Barovia. And due to other decisions I've made concerning Sergei, the role of someone sun-themed falls to her instead, so she's a Cassandraesque sun priestess and prophetess. One could even call her cursed...

It was especially important to me that she have a little more interiority than what the module really allows, so my Tati has a... complicated relationship with Strahd, which I'll have to get into at a later date. She still takes her own life in the end, but by different means and for a different purpose.

And, most critically, her soul is not being reincarnated across Barovia. Her image is repeated over and over again, whether that be on dryads or in old books or ruined statues or in the face of some doomed young woman, but it's never really her. Strahd had her once, and never again.

Last note on design: I recognize that Tatyana in the module is darker skinned and so any renditions of her as a white blonde woman will (imo rightfully) set off some alarm bells, but for the record if I didn't have a PC made in-fiction to have Tati's features whose roleplayer had designed before I picked up the campaign, I would have designed this character differently. She would be fatter, and a lot less white. But as DMs we work with what we're given, and I've enjoyed using this design to my own dark purposes.

Lottie's original plot saw her take up combat while in Barovia, seeing as she had bizarre and unexplained proficiency in every weapon she seemed to touch. I do miss her with nothing but a frying pan and cooking knife though.
