Breaking from SDCC: The first Avatar Studios movie coming to theaters in 2024 will no longer be about Kyoshi, but rather Aang! And, exclusive from Avatar News: it will be set in a time period where Team Avatar are young adults!
At today’s Braving the Elements panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Janet Varney (the original voice of Korra) announced that Avatar Studios’ first animated movie coming to theaters will be about Aang and his friends!
Avatar News previously revealed Avatar Studios’ slate of movies with a different project, Kyoshi, coming first. As I mentioned in that post, the order/dates of the projects could change, since it’s super early. I’ve even heard that some of their projects have shifted between being movies and shows, so it’s obviously still all very fluid.
I have an additional exclusive to add though: Team Avatar will be adults/young adults in this movie. I know a more specific age range, but I’m not allowed to reveal that yet.
If you follow Avatar News on social media, you’ll know I had plans to reveal live-action news on Thursday and Friday and animation news on Saturday and Sunday of SDCC. My post tomorrow was going to be that they’ll be adults in the Zuko movie (here’s proof), so that has obviously been bamboozled. I’m not sure if the Aang movie is the “Zuko-focused” movie, but I can tell you that the/a “Zuko movie” was definitely scheduled to be the second one at one point, and it makes total sense they would do Aang era first instead!
As for Kyoshi, I don’t know what’s happening with her place in animation. An earlier version of the schedule I saw had Aang in 2024 and Korra in 2025, so it’s possible that was always the case, or they switched the schedule or switched back, or… who knows! As I mentioned, some projects have shifted between movie and show, so it’s possible her movie became a show, or it will take the 2025 or 2026 slots, all of which could still change, obviously.
I guess my last note should be that theoretically the adult Gaang project could be a different project than the 2024 Aang movie, but I highly doubt it. But, I’ll say that’s possible here for posterity.
Get hype! And thank you to Avatar Studios for the official update!
I was watching spy x family with friends and one of them went “if this is propaganda to have children and work for a government agency it’s working” and we all laughed but the more we watched we were like “…….oh my god is this propaganda to have children?”
vampire that likes to cook for their human friends and puts on a hazmat suit to peel and dice the garlic
they stand on the other side of the house watching while their human friend is chowing down on the tomato bisque and garlic bread, the vampire is just standing there going “is it good? is it good? do you like it? 😊”

i love it when people are obsessed with their wives. it’s like yeah that’s literally what you’re supposed to do
Is anyone else like…halfway pro life because people need to be responsible and abortions shouldn’t be allowed just cause…half way ‘abortions should be allowed for extreme cases (high probability of death, certain illnesses, cases of rape)’. nothing is black or white imo. the way people are so extreme about one side or the other is weird to me tbh.
So, if you actually listen to the people who have had abortions, you’ll find that *none* of them did it “just cause.” Everyone has their reasons. Everyone makes that choice *because* of something.
And those of us who support unfettered access to abortion recognize that it isn’t *our business*, or our governors business, or the presidents business, or our senators business, what those reasons are. Those of us who can become pregnant should be given the respect snd dignity to make those choices without having to get permission from Ted Cruz first.
Now, if you want to reduce the number of abortions, there are lots of ways to do that *without* restricting people’s ability to access abortions. Universal Healthcare, subsidized prenatal and child care, expanded protections to victims of domestic and sexual abuse, guaranteed paid parental leave- these things can reduce abortion rates, and they don’t fundamentally dehumanize and denegrate those of us who can become pregnant.
Also on the “responsibility” front…
are you suggesting that pregnancy and childbirth should be a punishment for ‘irresponsible’ sex?
1. What is ‘being responsible’ in this context? Because that should mean using protection and getting checked for STIs and making sure your partner enthusiastically consents. All of which take good sex ed and access to healthcare and resources . Those are things that are unequally distributed. Better sex ed programs and better access to protection and healthcare seem a way better way to teach responsibility. Unless, that here is it’s actually code for 'women shouldn’t have casual sex/sex outside marriage/be sluts’ in which case yikes, though in either case:
2. It takes two to make a baby and only one has to be pregnant and give birth, what is your suggestion for making sure to teach people who can impregnate the same responsibility? How are you gonna be equitable about this lesson? Is it going to teach what you want it to teach? Even if it does, is it a good way to do it? Is there a better, kinder way? What exactly do you want forced reproduction to accomplish? Is this actually remotely just?
3. What about the instrument of this punishment: the child? How are you protecting them from this situation? If you don’t think people can be trusted to have responsible sex do you actually trust them with children? If the kids are given up for adoption do you have a plan to better fund and manage foster care to protect them while they wait to be adopted? What if they medical conditions? Who is responsible for making sure all these Lessons-In-Responsibility-babies actually have their needs met? How is it ethical to use actual human babies as teaching tools/punishments?
I just don’t see how the Face the Consequences of Your Actions take pans out logically, especially with actual human children involved. Like even if we accept the stereotypical and unrealistic narrative that abortions are sought primarily by people who just have a lot of casual sex for fun but can’t be bothered to use protection, how does making them have kids actually….fix anything? How is it ethical to use children to punish their parents? Why is sex something that should be punished? And how is it fair to make only the people who can be pregnant (and then actually get pregnant) go through this specific “lesson”? Is sex that can’t result in pregnancy more responsible?
And that’s not the reality. It’s so INFINITELY messier. And I for one am APPALLED at how the pro-life side treats children.
