Robby is still looking down at his phone when he comes into the bedroom.

“Do you think it was too much?” He asks. “I feel like maybe I overshared -“

“Robby,” comes Jack’s voice, and it makes him look up. His husband is in bed, his reading glasses tossed on the book that’s resting next to him. He’s crying.

“Jack, what -“ Robby starts, immediately coming to sit on the edge of the bed.

“S’okay, it’s okay,” Jack reassures him with a watery smile. He grabs Robby’s hand, lifting it to his lips and kissing his knuckles. “I just - god. I’m so fucking glad you’re still here with me. I know it hasn’t been easy, but I’m grateful every fucking day.”

“Baby,” Robby says softly, moving up further to gently brush away Jack’s tears. “I know how hard it was for you, too. Your strength and patience got us through. I couldn’t ask for a better man.”

“You probably could, but I’m glad you won’t,” Jack says, smiling despite the tears still rolling down his cheeks.

“Never,” Robby smiles, leaning in to kiss him. “I picked this one a long time ago, and I’ll pick him every day until we die old and grey.”

Jack smiles against his lips. “A promise is a promise, Robinavitch.”

Robby links their pinkies together. “A promise is a promise.”
