In fact, I find the situation in the show at the moment and its potential development very funny. The screenwriters once again forgot that the antagonist defines the protagonist. I suppose they won't change the ending, and Helaena has already voiced her prophecy, which means what do we get? The green team doesn't exist in fact, all members of this family hate each other, Rhaenyra, apparently, will get the capital almost without a fight, the blacks have more dragons and more allies. And she's going to lose anyway? To Aegon? To this Aegon, who has only Larys on his side? It's pretty...pathetic.

This episode proved Team Green is the better team

TG had all of 10 minutes, and they were the most riveting parts if the episode

Team Black on the other hand? Boring

Putting aside the fact she shouldn’t be the hero, Rhaenyra has no personality. Neither does Jace. Neither does Baela. Neither does Corlys. Name one personality trait any of them have. You can’t. Because they are blank slate good guys that you can project onto. You can be a hero and still have a personality. Just look at the HP books. You can take out “Harry said,” “Ron said,” and “Hermione said,” and still know who said what because their personalities are so distinct. Just look at the Starks. Arya and Sansa are completely different. You can do the same, and still know who said what. If you did to Team Black you’d have no clue who said what. This is a huge problem. Your main character is indecipherable from the secondary characters around her. The dynamics are also nonexistent

The only one with personality is Daemon, and look what he’s been reduced to. We got a scene of him chopping wood. Same with Rhaenyra, we got a scene of her hair being brushed

Because they have no personality, there’s nothing you can do with them. Even the way mourned Rhaenys was so bland

The first episode to really focus on the main character, and Aegon/TGC stole the show with one word

Really let that sink in. This is the first episode to really focus on Rhaenyra, and Aegon is still the most talked about. And he only said one fucking word

And the ep is otherwise seen as unwatchable

We are in for a rough second half of season 2, which is said to focus on the Blacks, if this ep is anything to go by

Maester Aemond AU (1/2)

Well, after Evan's interview about how Aemond could end up being a Maester in Grand Sept gave me some power to post this old AU in my head about how Aemond could be if he stayed in Old Town.

- Start with how the Pink Dread incident ended up differently, that both Velaryon boys got scared after Aemond was mad with their prank, thus their dragons acted on their protective instinct haphazardly to eliminate the threat.

- Fortunately, Vermax and Arrax were still young dragon so their claws and fires can only injured their master's uncle, not claimed his life. This is merely an unfortunate event in the King's opinion, and those boys didn't need to hold any consequences. Alicent or Rheanyra didn't know the details about how Aemond got injured in the Dragon pit.

- Viserys agreed with Alicent that his second son's obsession with dragon must be stopped, let him be dragonless is better than being burnt to death next time. We're gonna send him to Old Town. (Yes, so they brought Daeron with Tessarion back)

- This is an unofficial disown, huh? Aemond wake up painfully with his arm in bandage and the news that you will be send to Oldtown in a couple of days.

'Dragonless and troublesome second son like me has no place in the godlike Targaryen family. I know that father doesn't love me, but now I just realized that Mother doesn't want me too.'

- His uncle wanted him to be a cupbearer or squire at first, but Aemond requested to admit into the Citadel instead. Since his arm still had some chronic hurt.

- He did quite well with his nerdy life there. Got a few friends from The Reach and Dorne. In less than 5 years he got several chains, his expertise was healing art but he hated Astrology.

- Laena still died, but since Aemond didn't be there so the funeral did happen smoothly. No conflict.

- So, Rheanyra didn't go paranoid with how the green got the biggest Westerosi flying nuclear like Old Granny Vhagar.

- So, she still did keep her marriage with Laenor. No Daemyra marriage here. (Harwin still died like before)

- Sorry Rheana, but grampy old granny didn't like you. She tried to claim Vhagar but ended up nearly dying from fire. Due to his daughter's injury, Daemon was a good dad here. He stayed with Rheana and oversee her recuperating with Baela in Pentos (or high tide).

- Aegon married Haelana like before, but Aemond could not come back to the ceremony since he joined Citadel field trip to Volantis and Yiti. Learned about Eastern Healing art like Chinese-yiti medication and acupuncture. A year later, he returned to Citadel and got his second silver link. He used an alias after getting famous, got many healing appointments with southern houses. Little silver hair healer.

- When he was 16, got kidnapped by some pirate from Pyke along with his Martell friend and the third son of Tarly.

- they demanded a ransom of gold equal to Aemond's weight. But after the letter reached King's Landing, the king and the hand thought it was a lie. So they replied to the letter saying that we would not pay. If that boy was so stupid that he could not take care of himself. You can keep him for yourself. The court had no money for such worthless people, maybe this attached one single silver coin was enough.

- No response from Old Town too because they also believe it's a fake.

- those pirates read the answer to Aemond. That is the moment that he truly realized how worthless he was in the eyes of his family.

- unfortunately, before they decided to throw him away in the sea, some plague widely spread in the area and yes, they needed a doctor. And that is how he met and made an acquaintance with Dalton Grayjoy.

- Aemond was released shortly after because his noble friend from Dorne paid the ransom for him.

- working like a dog to pay off his debt.

- invented some sort of westerosi-penicillin because he noticed that some area on the plagued corpse looked better if it made contact with *this* certain mold. This was a really breakthrough medical invention, but he is still a prick. He kept the extraction method secret to himself. Got third silver link and a ton of money.

- 18 year olds, was invited to Bravos and needed to travel through KL during Jace's birthday. He saw how Viserys splashed out a shit ton of money on this occasion. Even the prize for tourney winner was more than his ransom price that year. He asked his companion to help him shave off his hair, no more silver. He hated every Targaryen element on his body.

- He needed only one or two more chains to graduate and be an official maester. He wanted to discard his surname as soon as possible. Many houses already competed to get his service in advance.

- Somehow, his uncle just had known about his unfortunate experience in Pyke, and relayed it to his mother as well. Alicent wanted to apologize to her son so she called him back on the pretext that Rheanyra was about to give birth to her 4th children and we hadn't seen you for a decade.

- Aemond: wtf they need me to do......

- When he arrived Red keep, because his nearly baldhead and sloppy and old acolyte outfit, he was greeted without intending to be insulted by his nemesis nephews, "Are you a new servant?"

- well, that was a great motivation to stay outside until his sister finished her labor. He went to do some part-time job with healer guild in the city that night. (some knights that known Aemond since he was young was chosen to be his escort)

- Both Jace and Luke wanted to apologize to their uncle after some Kingguard told them that guy is Aemond, but they can't find him and the maester just informed them that the crown princess will have her labor tonight.

- The escort knights were astonished with the second prince ability, it's like a god work. Especially looking at his skill that handled complicated childbirths safely. They're about to celebrate with the guild personnel and the newly mother family but they were told to return to the keep immediately. Princess Rheanyra passed away while giving birth.

In an attempt to make a feminist show, Hotd has Rhaenys be totally cool with her man cheating on her, has Baela refusing her mother’s claim, has Rhaena reduced to a nursemaid with little to no scenes with her twin sister, has Rhaenyra start a war for a throne because daddy said she could have it, has Alicent dithering around with no influence over the court that she’s ruled for over a decade, has Helaena offer up a necklace instead of her own life to try and save her children, also completely removes the fact that Helaena fell into complete despair and insanity due to this immense trauma, has Nettles–a commoner who learnt how to ride a dragon-erased, has Saera Snow-a major proponent of the Pact of Ice and Fire and an RLJ foreshadowing, not to mention an enriching factor to Cregan and Jace-removed, has Jeyne Arryn be totally cool siding with the man who murderered a fellow female liege, has—

And if I said clown behavior??? If I said what a cheap attempt at excusing no women inheriting any claims other than Rhaenyra???

Baela was raised by her salt and sea side. Her blood and fire side neglected and ignored her. And then they only accepted her as valuable when she was viewed as a future wife and mother. Rhaenyra fought to push her bastard on the seat of Driftmark to reaffirm her position subsequently passing over Baela. Corlys passes over both his granddaughters for his bastard grandson because he’s more obsessed with his name than his blood.

But now the show has run into the fact that actually team black is only propping up one woman, so what do they do? They have Driftmark be freely offered to a woman and have her turn it down so it can be taken by a man and follow book canon. Because naturally, Baela would have no ambitions of her own. Naturally, Baela would never stand for her sister to take the seat. She only exists to empower Rhaenyra! She believes in feminism!! So she has to support Rhaenyra’s claim to the IT and not accept her own claim to Driftmark.

Because feminism for team black is just Rhaenyra is special and has a right to rule. But all other women should exist solely to prop Rhaenyra up and have no claims.

What a complete and utter joke this show can be.

That line flabberghasted me because wasn't Baela raised on Driftmark? And I am more confused by everyone insisting that Rhaena was raised to rule Driftmark when she never warded on the island? Neither was Luke? I'm sure they visited, but it was Baela that was taught how to rule from that seat. I know folks will say Rhaenys was teaching Baela to be queen but still. Rhaena should have been on Driftmark too. Luke's butt should have been planted on a boat so fast if they were gonna usurp that seat for themselves. But it never was.

The thing is Rhaenyra didn't need to make babies with Harwin. I don't care if she wants to be with him, that's fine, but moon tea was right there in two separate episodes. She didn't need to have children to have heirs to the throne, and no heirs is definitely better than "obvious bastards posing as trueborn" heirs when it comes to future stability of the realm. It's not like the Targaryen family would end if she didn't reproduce - her brothers and sister and their families could carry on the line, and in the event she became queen, her brother would be heir. Not having babies with your husband isn't necessarily unheard of in this world - infertility happens.

I could even be sympathetic to her if she made a mistake and got the tea wrong once and oops! Bastard baby. But three? That was definitely on purpose and a very big "rules for thee but not for me" moment. Like I don't care if she should have the right to have babies with whoever based on our modern views but doing it back then with all that was riding on her to follow the rules and uphold the law as an heir was expected to do was just stupid and dangerous to everyone around her. Sorry girl if you wanted to prevent a war being fought over you succeeding the throne you needed to have done better.

My problem with Rhaenyra is not that she had kids with another man. My problem is that she had kids with another man that she then proceeded to demand be favored over her true born brothers and sister. My problem is that everyone else in Westeros still had to follow regular succession laws. My problem is that Rhaenyra wanted to be the exception.

If she fought to change the laws that’s well and good. But she didn’t. She just expected everyone to be cool with her obvious bastards (while their own bastards were still treated like well…bastards).

Rhaena and Team Black overall are the epitome of Rules for Thee but not for Me. And her constant expectation to be the exception is a huge part of the reason so many families sided with the Greens. Because the Blacks couldn’t be bothered to follow the laws of Westeros that they were supposed to represent. And if the Blacks picked and chose which laws to follow it’s only logical that the Lords assumed the laws keeping them safe were fair game too. I mean she married Daemon.

I didn’t see the episode that way. I think the kids are just traumatized and I think the fight stemmed more from Rhaena being told to ride a pig. If I were Laena’s girls I would curse the entire family

i mean we can agree to disagree, but we all have to agree that daemon's "betrayal" of laena is objectively worse than aemond's, who'd never even met laena and wasn't committed to her in any way. but this actually brings me to a different, but related and very important point i've been wanting to make:

baela and rhaena had no way of knowing what aemond was referencing with the pig comment. they weren't there for the pink dread prank, and it doesn't really make sense for jace or luke to have told them about it. so as far as the girls knew, the pig comment was something aemond came up with on the spot in order to sound as cruel as possible. but how do you think they would feel if they found out that aemond was actually parroting jace and luke's words back to them? (remember, luke, rhaena's fiance, still finds the pig joke funny all those years later at the family dinner.)

aemond specifically says "maybe your cousins can find you a pig to ride." because if luke and jace think aemond deserved a pig for being dragonless, they must think the same of rhaena. aemond's trying to hurt rhaena, yes, but he's trying to hurt her with the truth: that her "friends" look down on her deepest insecurity and always have. he's basically saying "look at who you hang out with."

so how do you think rhaena would feel, as the only targ kid without a dragon? it would be like if you spent your entire life insecure about having a big nose, only to find out that your fiancé and future brother-in-law used to laugh at (and still laugh at) someone for having the exact same fucking nose as you.

i think she'd be pretty hurt, and pretty fucking pissed. and rightfully so.

I hate fics where Alicent and Rhaenyra talk and Alicent tells her she was afraid Rhaenyra would hurt her children and Rhaenyra's like "I would never do something like that why would you think that?" And Alicent only goes "oh good, it was just my father trying to scare and manipulate me!"

Where's the fic where Rhaenyra says "I would never do something like that" and Alicent says "Your kid literally stabbed my child's eye out and you not only made sure Viserys focused only on you and your thing but also wanted my child to be tortured for it"

Edit: if it wasn't clear by the tags and the argument of the post itself, I am Pro Alicent Hightower. Making an argument of "But Alicent did this-" isn't relevant and won't sway me. Please shut the fuck up about it.
