Unpopular opinion - Aegon doesn't deserve a redemption arc, because there's nothing to redeem. He's one of the most normal HOTD characters.

on one hand, im all for these sudden influx of "aegon is growing on me" posts now that they realize how misunderstood he is, it really is a testament on tgc's goated acting and fighting for aegon's story which hopefully means we can finally have civil discussions on how amazing/tragic aegon ii's character is without getting spammed by assholes calling you "rape apologist". on the other hand, it is really unfair that it took until now because fandom can be so hypocritical and really determined in harassing you for liking his character, you can have daemon stans make thinkpieces of him having a so called, make believe "female" (lmao dont ask them about rhea) experience and you wont have the fandom spamming their comments/asks calling them a pedo/misogynist/wife abuser lmao

Yes, I understand all the positive aspects of this situation - the recognition of Tom's talent, more analyses, art, edits and other content about Aegon, discussions, but…fuck. I can't just forget the last four years. You know, I started my blog on Tumblr because I had a lot of things to say about Aegon as a character, and there was simply no place for me in the Russian-speaking part of the Internet. There were like one and a half TG fans here at the time of the release of the first season, for one positive comment about Aegon, there were twenty TB fans bullying you for your opinion. It was unbearable, so I started writing here. I had too many thoughts that I wanted to express. Initially, I didn't think my posts would find any response at all, but it seemed like gradually people who loved Aegon as much as I did were gathering here. I'm still surprised that anyone is interested in my blog, and I'm not sure why anyone is reading it at all, but I'm glad that maybe people could feel safe here. And for all these four years, I was receiving death wishes, threats and insults in my askbox and in my comments. Like, okay, people can change their minds, I can't stop them from doing that, and I'm not going to try, but my experience is valid, and I'm not going to be friendly to them.

What frustrates me is there are ppl going on about how the only thing stopping them from liking aegon/spoiling their enjoyment of his character is the fact that he's a rapist in the show as though it isn't blatantly obvious why that decision was made in the first place. Like genuinely it's the only argument ever given as to why someone can't support him. Hence why TGC tried to get them to go back on the decision, there was never gonna be any coming back from it. You like aegon and you instantly get branded a rape-apologist. It pisses me off so fucking much. If the show gave af about victims of rape/csa they would explore the ramifications of viserys sa'ing alicent, and then going on to rape-by-proxy both his fucking kids except they don't. They have alicent calling him a great man and then they have her say it was her father's decision to have them married (making no sense whatsoever considering it doesn't aid them politically, and again implicates her in the abuse of her children not viserys). Sorry for the ranting I need to stop scrolling thru tiktok and the aegon tag cus it's clearing pissing me off too much.

TB fans have DAEMON who killed his wife simply because he didn't like her and this marriage didn't allow him to stick his dick in his little niece. He practically deflowered Rhaenyra, and then left her half-naked in a brothel, and the fact that she wasn't raped was just luck. He beat up the messenger simply because he was angry, he celebrated the death of his nephew, and then stole the egg intended for him. Should I continue? But yeah, Aegon is the worst dude in Westeros. Btw - if they rate Westeros by modern standards, then Daemon is also a rapist, because he regularly visited brothels where women were often against their will.

I mean - Aegon wasn't a rapist in the book - the screenwrites destroyed his character once and for all with this addition, because now - Aegon can do anything, even save children and kittens from burning houses - he'll forever remain a rapist, which means that this character doesn't deserve any sympathy. But the problem is that even in the show - there are characters who have done much worse things, but the audience loves them, and TB fans ignore their sins.
