as a HUGE harry potter book nerd who has re-read the books five times, read the harry potter wiki, and, of course, has to get into the marauders fandom, i HATE how basically 90% of the marauders era characters portrays are so inaccurate!
james was NOT a sweet guy, friends with everyone, and always saw the best in people. it is CANON he bullied snape. he was arrogant and had and ego that made him almost obnoxious. but he was loyal, and sacrificed. FOR HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY. the people he loved (which weren't much).
sirius WASNT A FUCKING TWINK. it is CANON AND REPEATED MULTIPLE TIMES, that he was physically strong and TALLER than remus (and most people). yes, he had long hair and tattoos and whtver but only to piss his mother (and family) off. and he, also, was a fucking dick. let's not forget he misled snape into a trap that could've killed him and if james hadn't backed out, snape would've died. but sirius, as james, cared about his friends (james, remus, and maybe peter).
remus. now. he's probably the most mis-characterized. he wasn't a casanova. he wasn't beautiful, tall and strong and had everyone drooling for him. he was a fucking loser. he was a mis-fit that somehow landed w the two popular boys. and he wasn't stupid. if he was their friend no one would mess w him (except at the end, they really became friends). he spent a lot of time in the infirmary, weak from his transformations. he had scars, all over, and let me doubt other students found that attractive. in the book he's presented as pale and sick-looking. how do u turn that into the fucking fuckboy of hogwarts.
and ma boy peter. now, this guy wasn't stupid at all. he wasn't the calm and collected, kind of goofy he is in the fanon. he knew that if he was friends w james and sirius, people wouldn't bother him, like remus, but unlike him, when he realized there was someone bigger, and dangerous, and w every chance to win, he didn't hesitate to switch sides. he didn't hesitate to RAT HIS FRIENDS OUT. he knew they would be murdedered, and he did it because he valued his life more. peter followed the biggest fish, and that's what he did his whole life.
homestly, i dont mind the headcanons, i have some of my own, what i care ab is the fact that these characters have been so badly characterized that theh have lost their essence and, much more importantly, they complexity.
ao3 and "all the young dudes" have absolutely fried this fandom's brains to turn the marauders into people they were not, at all.
