Story time: i think i might be the world's only knitter who is afraid to buy yarn. Sure, sock yarn is fine, cause it says so on the package: good for socks. Can't go wrong with that one. 75% wool, 25% acrylic. Now how did that all come about? When I was about... 14 cowls and "looped scarves" got in style and I thought, ah I can knit one. so I thought of an intricate cable and braid pattern and went out to buy some denim blue wool yarn. I don't remember what kind, it seemed fancy enough, but turned out terribly scratchy for something so close to the neck. It was just the worst waste of money. I wore it once or twice maybe and then never again. I think my mum dumped it, which is a pity, because the wool would have made a great hat for someone who likes light blue, but long story short I hate buying yarn which doesn't specifically have a purpose. I am nervous to research what to use for a sweater. :/

Sorry the lighting is super bad in my room! Updates! On the left is a mystery sock on the right my hermione which is getting so wiiide. The pattern looks a little confusing flat but worn it's pretty cute! With hermione i'm down to maybe ... uhm 6 repeats before I can start the heel! Fun fact : the heeel is my favourite part of sock knitting!

So as you might or might not know, I like knitting. I generally love needlecrafting and in the last weeks of being absent I embroidered patches and clothing. As fall is fast approaching and because a friend inspired me to take up knitting again. These are some very basic Hermione's every day socks (free on ravelry!) in burgundy fingerweight. The knitting is a little messy because I unraveled this wool three or four times already because other Projects didn't work. I unterstand why this pattern is popular. It is easy and just knit and purl. I would recommend to size down. The original pattern called for a cast on of 64 but I think a regular medium 60 works fine. It's a very flexible knit and a bit more interesting than "vanilla" socks. I will probably pass them on to my mom as I think she would appreciate them more than I do and they'd fit better. I happen to find them a little loose but maybe my ankles are skinny, but that's purely my own fault.

Rule of thumb for custom shirt diys: -If you intend to use a) white b) paint buy a men's shirt. Most paints will only work on cotton / non-artificial blends and cheap basic shirts for girls usually have some sort of stretch and the all cotton ones are either basically transparent or cost 10 bucks. I'm cheap. I can get two guys shirts for that price. For sizing I roughly guess a guy's small is a girl's large. Keep in mind that guys shirts are basically rectangles while girl's shirts flare out a little bit. Guys do generally not have super wide hips. They might look a little silly on you first. What you can do is slit the side seams open just a bit and flip em over and sew them with more space in between. Still working on that though. You can take in the sides but I love that 80s silhouette of large shirt tight highwaisted pants. I like to roll and fix the sleeves because a) cool grease vibes and b) men's sleeves are ridiculous. Ok at least their shirts do have sleeves that deserve that name but somehow they are super wide and tend to flare out like little pagoda roofs. Why? Not a good look on anyone. Actually if your sleeves do that and you're usually buying men's apparel you might be wearing a size too large. Oddly enough most men do. The collar is the worst part. I know some people do keep the knitted bit, cut it off clean and re attach it. I usually throw it away, draw a new shape from an old shirt cut and sew. It doesn't look as polished but who cares. I sometimes even hand stitch because I'm that lazy.

Reasons I haven’t been active on here lately?

Most of my projects crash and die.

I know, I know, not everything in crafting can always work peachy.

If you follow my main blog’s ig you might know I have this wall of collected items, including embroidery pieces, postcards, a mounted deer skull, a scottish cattle coaster, those things. And I thought to myself, you know what would look rad? Plates. So I ventured out and bought 50 ct white tableware to do things to.

Idea 1) somehow chipping it and adding a crystal effect by filling the cracks with those ikea glass bits I talked about a while ago. They make a great amethyst like effect. But somehow my weak ass can’t break plates now? No, dropping shattered them completely.

Idea 2) some sort of marble effect with maybe a cool quote on top. So I googled nail polish water marble, bought soup containers at the dollar store (which granted did seem a little flimsy) and started the project. First of all: metallics don’t work, so I had to end up dumping my cherished Kiko polishes in there (which for my cheap ass are expensive)- it still came out kind of clumpy, but not suuuuper bad. But now for the terrible part- I’m not a chemist, but the nail polish managed to melt through the pot somehow and ended up flooding my bedroom floor (because that’s where all the cool kids craft) and left my room smelling like a toxic wasteland. Was it worth it? Totally not.
