#sweater knitting

Literally haven't taken it off since I finished it. I am so unbelievably pleased!!!! It turned out like a dream 🍓✨ details below:

Pattern: frost lines by andrea mowry

Yarn: mc: Brooklyn tweed (rip) loft // cc: spincycle dyed in the wool, strawbaby colorway

I used US5s and knit a size 5 due to gauge differences, since these yarns are technically fingering weight. It is a very light wearing sweater, weighs absolutely nothing on my shoulders.

I wanted to show off the yarn - and I was afraid of running out of the mc tan bc I can't get more of it - so I did the cuffs in the spincycle, as well as added a very cute behind the neck detail i am in LOVE with.

Otherwise, the only mod is I knit the buttonband thinner, and shifted the buttons to be between stripes rather than at stripes. Thought it looked better.

Overall, so very happy with it. It feels absurdly professional and so put together. Mowry's raglan chart was really fun to use and I kinda want another one XD

I FINISHED THE BODY OF MY WHATEVER SWEATER, AKA THE FIRST SWEATER IVE EVER MADE, BEHOLD ME!!!

Worth noting this is pre-blocking; should be nice and oversized once washed and laid out.

I also picked the remaining colors for the sleeves! I wound them up already and have started both sleeves. I was hoping to weigh my minis and wind them into 2 equally sized cakes so I could do one sleeve, then the other, and still have them match each other, but my scale isn't accurate for grams AT ALL (telling me a 20 gr ball actually weighed 4.5 gr, be for real). So I've pivoted and broke out a second size 6 needle and am manually striping the yarn every 8 rows and pretending I'm not mad about the random leftovers. But. Look at the colors!

Seriously, look at that fade. I'm not ready.

Best part? These and all of the other yarns used in my sweater were gifts from friends/family. I'm quite happy with this project!!

I finished my sweater ❤️❤️❤️ The pattern is Koivua by Caitlin Hunter which I liberally changed: completely different yarn gauge, left out the texture pattern, mirrored the colourwork on the body and sleeves to make it longer, different cuffs and collar, completely altered the fit (from oversized to tight fitting in the body and sleeves that actually fit my arms and aren't 3 sizes too small - a lot of math that actually payed off ❤️)

Blocking did wonders, the back was bunching up weirdly between the yoke and body colourwork but that's completely gone now! The stitches evened out beautifully as well ❤️

Overall, I am SO HAPPY with how this turned out! 🥰🥰🥰 I love the colours, I love the fit, the wool is a bit scratchy but I'm not super sensitive to that so it's fine (and maybe wearing it will soften the wool as well). Now please wish me luck that the weather stays cold for a bit so I can still wear it lots before spring comes! 😃

My stash busting sweater is one sleeve away from completion! And I know it fits cause I tried it on before finishing the first sleeve (so much easier to measure sleeve length on the body).

Took the sweater to a knitting group and was asked what pattern I’m using. The answer … uh …. Elizabeth Zimmerman percentages system for a raglan sweater. Then asked how I planned the stripes … uh they come from the heart. I switch colors when I feeeeeeeeel it. And cause we’re going with designing with the heart, the sleeves won’t match. Bwhahahahaha!

If you know me irl you probably know about this beast of a project I took on in May of ‘25. Prior to this I had only knitted a pair of socks and half a scarf. I’m about to enter it in a small town festival craft fair next week so wish her luck!

After my last sweater project I had a fair amount of colourwork yarn leftover. I have so far been turning it into mittens (adult size) and a sweater (child size). There is still some more to go.

Hmm

So I got and stared the Project Hail Mary fox sweater and in the kit there was a yarn substitution for the grey (paw prints). Which fine that's allowed, but the grey they subbed with it too light. It needs to be a few shades darker to really contrast the cream/oatmeal of the main.

So I think I might go to the yarn store tomorrow and do a sub of my own. Bring the band and a hank of the main colour and see if I can find a grey that will work better. It also means I can buy enough to do proper fair isle along the bottom and not the intarsia the pattern vaguely wants you to do.
