A few days ago I was listening to the radio when I heard a news segment about Donald Trump's ostensible efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Resistance, and the reporter said that this would involve an exchange of "Hamas's Israeli hostages and Israel's Palestinian prisoners" (emphasis mine). It struck me for being such a comically obvious example of the double standard with which the Israeli occupation and Palestinian resistance are treated. Like they pulled the whole "using two different words for the same thing" trick in the same breath; a blatant prejudice even by the normal standards of Imperialist media.
This also provides a good example of how discrete pieces of propaganda generally work by reinforcing and building off ideas that have already been established within the intended audience, rather then trying to insert some entirely novel idea into an unsuspecting mind. Like the casual "Hostages vs Prisoners" distinction only makes sense to someone who already believes that Hamas are just a bunch of dirty terrorists, in contrast to the arguably flawed but ultimately legitimate state of Israel. Any remotely neutral observer, even one who is otherwise ignorant, would hear something like this and think "This source sounds very biased. I'm not sure I can trust it". But between all the mechanisms that the Bourgeoisie use to create an ideological hegemony(i.e. mass media, academia and education) and the general material interest that citizens of the Imperial Core have in maintaining the system of Imperialism, Australian news radio isn't particularly worried about a "remotely neutral observer". The ideas are already widely accepted; all that a single news report has to do is help keep them that way

what i'm begging people to understand is that a huge portion of evangelical/christians in usamerica do not genuinely and earnestly believe in their holy texts or core doctrines. for them, religion is a means to uphold white supremacy and patriarchy and they've convinced themselves it's their divine prerogative. that is what they believe. you can plead with them to "be christlike" or point out their hypocrisy until the second coming. they do not care. you can't reason with them because they are not interested in piety or morality they are interested in power and control
