When dark creeps in and eats the light, Bury you fears on Sorry Night. For in the winter's blackest hours, Comes the feasting of the Vours. No one can see it, the life they stole, Your body's here but not your soul...
The Devouring by Simon Holt, p.4
A book I have read countless times:
Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore
When Queen Bitterblue took the throne of Monsea, she was a child, and her advisors ran the kingdom for her. Now she is beginning to question their decisions, especially how they handle the legacy of her father, Leck, who ruled through his Grace - a special talent for mind-altering - and his taste for darkness and violence. Biteable needs to know Monsea’s past to leas it into the future, so she begins exploring the city streets at night, disguised and alone. As she does, she meets to thieves who hold a key to the truth of Leck’s reign. And one of them, with a Grace that he hasn’t yet identified, holds a key to her heart.
(Read the first novel: Graceling, and check out the prequel to the series: Fire!)
Note: Reading Fire before Bitterblue will help you understand the ending of Bitterblue. The order goes: Graceling, Fire, Bitterblue. Enjoy!
A book I own but haven’t read yet:
Gone by Michael Grant
In the blink of an eye, everyone disappears.
Gone.
Everyone Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not a single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Gone, too, are the phones, internet, and television. There is no way to get help.
Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. An the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents - unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers - that grow stronger by the day.
It’s a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen and war is imminent.
(Check out the sequel: Lies!)

One choice can transform you.
Beatrice Prior's society is divided into five factions—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent).
Beatrice must choose between staying with her Abnegation family and transferring factions. Her choice will shock her community and herself. But the newly christened Tris also has a secret, one she's determined to keep hidden, because in this world, what makes you different makes you dangerous.

"My Grace doesn't give me the strength of a giant," she said. "You Ungraced don't understand. You think if we have one Grace, we have them all."

Have you been searching for a post-apocalyptic book containing aliens?
Read The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey
After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, just one rule applies: trust no one. Now it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker, beguiling and mysterious, Evan may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother - or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up. (Check out the sequel: The Infinite Sea! And watch the feature film!)
If you liked:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
You’ll love:
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
Why?:
Both of these books feature teenagers who are fighting for survival in a dystopian world.
In The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, Katniss lives in a post-apocalyptic world called Panem. In this desolate world, children from each district between the ages of twelve and eighteen are chosen annually to fight to the death in an arena. When Katniss’ younger sister is chosen as tribute, Katniss volunteers to take her place. From that moment on the arena, and twenty-three other tributes, await.
(Check out the sequel: Catching Fire! And watch the feature film!) In The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, Thomas is thrown into a landscape called The Glade. He has no recollection of his past life apart from his first name. He’s surrounded by boys from his age group who tell him that a maze surrounds The Glade and is filled with horrible creatures called Grievers. Thomas is adamant to solve the maze, beat the monsters and save the Gladers.
(Check out the sequel: The Scorch Trials! And watch the feature film!)
"One must always be careful of books," said Tessa, "and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.
