The story behind: papercranes-and-hope

I was a kid when I heard this Japanese story and I’m not entirely sure whether it’s true.

After the tragic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan most of the civilians and citizens lost their lives or their health, one particular girl named Sadako developed cancer that left her bed ridden and constantly ill.

She constantly hoped to get better and in a desperate attempt she began folding paper cranes after having heard that after a 1000 cranes any one wish of yours could come true.

Hope was not enough, and the little girl passed without reaching her end goal. However, her friends all gathered before her funeral finishing a 1000 cranes and burying her with them.

To me, paper cranes show determination friendship and love, and above all the most important thing is hope.

when your card declines in therapy and they make you think of how you’ve never experienced healthy teenage love and it’ll affect you forever

raindrops slipping away from tired hands, splashing into eager tongues.

clutched umbrellas and soft lips, monsoon, the season of love.

in another universe we do not wish for more, we are content, we are happy, we are curled tightly into each other and we never wonder about anything else.

In another universe we are enough.

you tell me you don't like poetry. that you prefer a messy text with bad grammar but authentic emotion. and I smile and tell you that my poetry is a lot like that, a list of drunk texts at 2 am I never sent the person I wrote them for. minus the bad grammar. but authentic emotion? but words that aren't pompous? expression that's human? that's what my poetry is. and now at close to 2 am, I want to send you some texts. authentic emotion. lower caps. lacking punctuation perhaps. but what would I say? I'm not drunk. and I'm not in love. maybe one day you will read my poetry and wonder if in another universe we would know each other better and how wonderfully authentic that would be, how spectacularly human.

in another universe sleep is something warm and gentle with clasped hands in the middle of a soft bed.

sleep is not lonely and not a secret and not something to be ashamed of,

in another universe sleep is done because it is needed and not because it is an escape.

in another universe she loves me for my art and the words I scribble onto every paper, she loves me for my stories and imagination and the gift I have for creation. she loves me because of the smell of new books and the ache of old poems.

she does not love me for numbers I do not have and red pen that I always give, she does not hate me for papers I will never bring and certificates I have never won.

The inexplicable science of skin to skin contact,

The soft fingers kneading into tense muscles,

The reassuring clasp of a palm around a wrist,

the sheer intimacy of hidden feet twined together under the table at dinner,

The violent bruises around hips and knees,

The accidental brushes of limb against limb.

We exist so boldly in our little corners,

So fearlessly, so stubbornly determined and proud.

We exist so boldly until someone wraps their arms around our middle,

A quiet voice in our ear,

Rest now.

The inexplicable science between human contact and why some of it feels so foreign,

The reason behind some touches leaving Infinity around Gojo Satoru and some leaving butterflies in your stomach

I’d unravel this science, conduct experiments with strange ease,

Because with your arms around my waist, in my hair, on my face,

I’d have the answers to everything.
