A Shell Of Myself

Once

I was beautiful.

In that brief, shining moment

I laid every fragile piece of myself

into the altar of your hands.

I didn’t know

love could be a mouth

that only devours.

Now you are gone,

and the beauty left with you

dragged like wet silk through mud,

ripped from my body in invisible strands.

All that remains

is an echo I no longer recognize

haunting the mirrors

that have forgotten my face.
