“ if you thought that was funny, i’m about to be hilar— ” wyatt stopped halfway out of the locker room, one hand still holding the door open, towel slung over his bare shoulder and damp hair pushed messily back from his forehead. he had been expecting someone from swim team with a stupid grin and his missing shirt balled up under one arm, not the person standing on the mostly empty pool deck. “ oh. hi. sorry. this is not, um, ” he started, then let out a short, embarrassed laugh under his breath, standing there half - dressed and holding onto the very unfortunate knowledge that he could not simply retreat back through the door without looking insane. “ you haven’t seen a gray shirt lying around anywhere, have you? ”

edie spots an unclaimed item in mint condition (albeit a lil’ bit stinky). edie doesn’t have the heart to leave it lying there, slowly fading into obscurity. nay, this has nothing to do with her sticky - fingered tendencies; her sensitive soul simply twists at the thought of the shirt remaining unused — failing to fulfill its life’s purpose.

one might pause to wonder: what even is the reason behind her poolside haunting? honestly? we may never know.

shirtless lad’s voice reaches her, yet she doesn’t turn, doesn’t flinch. she remains gazing out at the water, as if it were the mysterious ocean. “yer apologies aren’t needed, man. y’didn’t startle me one bit. i knew someone was approachin’. couldfuckin’feelit.” the mention of the shirt, however? that makes frizzy head snap in his direction, almost falling from its place on her neck. and, when she sees him, she can’t help but feel sudden irritation(?) he was careless with it, misplaced it, and now he wants it back? just like that?

“gray shirt… y’did say gray shirt, right? or was it green?” edie tap, tap, taps her chin. “nah, doesn’t ring a bell. any bells. bells keep on without any ringin’ and all that, y’know?” alas, even the greatest acting can’t hide the fact that she’s wearing said object over her usual ghoulish attire. polyester now covers torn lace. “sorry, man.”
