That this man could be anywhere near government is astounding.

Saw this when I was little. Found it years later on YouTube. One of the most influential pieces on my young mind.

This is America in 2016. This happened in a federal building a few blocks from the White House.

Nazis, in America, are holding fancy suit and tie dinners in Washington, D.C. in 2016. The US empire is in danger of being put in the hands of the most extreme of the extreme.

The liberal class is traditionally the class that safeguards liberal democracy and provides legitimacy to its institutions. Over time, because the liberals have abandoned the working class in deference to corporate interests, they've failed to live up to those duties. Now the US is facing the prospect of the rise of fascism.Where do we go from here?

Over at The Daily Beast they wrote a scathing article against "holier-than-thou" (their words) candidate Jill Stein of the #GreenParty. They write:
> But an analysis of her financial disclosures, which she was required to file as a #presidential candidate, show she is heavily invested in the very industries that she maligns the most and as a result of her investments, she has built significant wealth.
Not surprised someone with money has investments in problematic places. #JillStein might have been more careful, maybe? Could she?
What's striking is that the issue is really in how mutual funds and 401(k)'s are structured that make it nearly impossible for normal folks to divest in industries they find problematic. When presented with fund options you're basically given an opaque list of ridiculous funds like the FREEDOM 500 and the LIBERTY AND BEER 750.

The diaspora* software setup process is definitely still very complicated. I can see that once it is set up, though, it is something you don't necessarily have to fiddle with too much. If I wanted to mess around with the style and feel of the site more I could dive into that. However, I think after an entire day of goofing around with the software I'm done.
The integration with Twitter and Tumblr wasn't hard at all. I like the idea of being able to centralize where I post and have it posted to disparate social media platforms with the possibility of expanding or shrinking that later on. It's my data, I should control it, and I should be able to be explicit where I share it.

For some reason I picture the end result of capitalism as one person hauling the entire planet’s resources away in a giant space-cargo ship to go trade it all on the intergalactic market.Â
Been playing around with decentralized networks. I’ve been mainly checking out ZeroNet.
They need to mature more. The bootstrapping process is confusing for most people. But it shows a lot of process.
The end goal that I’d like to see is complete control of all my personal data. Instead of entrusting 25 different websites to hold my data securely I want to own my own data securely and they must come to me to request it.
Decentralized networks are crucial for this because you don’t want centralized repositories of data. Encryption should be another key point.
IRC sucks. Watching a libertarian and a racist discuss whether or not crime is more prevalent among certain races.
“In capitalist society, providing it develops under the most favourable conditions, we have a more or less complete democracy in the democratic republic. But this democracy is always hemmed in by the narrow limits set by capitalist exploitation, and consequently always remains, in effect, a democracy for the minority, only for the propertied classes, only for the rich. Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in the ancient Greek republics: freedom for the slave-owners. Owing to the conditions of capitalist exploitation, the modern wage slaves are so crushed by want and poverty that “they cannot be bothered with democracy”, “cannot be bothered with politics”; in the ordinary, peaceful course of events, the majority of the population is debarred from participation in public and political life.”

Harvard dining hall workers strike
Amidst wide student support, Harvard administration fails to reach agreement with workers
Cambridge, MA—After failing to reach an agreement October 4, Harvard’s dining hall workers will be on strike starting Wednesday morning. Instead of clocking in for their shifts, workers will be picketing at dozens of locations across Harvard’s undergraduate and graduate campuses. The strike will continue until a fair agreement is reached.
The two principal demands of Harvard’s dining hall workers are affordable health care and sustainable incomes of at least $35,000 a year.
Harvard dining hall workers are asking Harvard to back off proposals that would make basic medical services, such as taking their kids to the doctor, prohibitively expensive.
Harvard students have shown overwhelming support for the dining hall workers. The Harvard Undergraduate Council and the Harvard Crimson Editorial Board have endorsed the strike. Harvard Medical School students have called the University’s proposals unaffordable. Graduate students at Harvard Law School, Harvard Divinity School, and Harvard School of Public Health have all pledged support. More than 3,300 signatures have been added to an online support petition.
Bargaining between Harvard’s food service workers, represented by UNITE HERE Local 26, and Harvard administration began May 20. Dining hall workers were not able to reach an agreement with administrators during Tuesday’s sessions, which were the 19th time the sides have met.
