Once you’ve looked over all those cool links, I have some general advice for you on how you can have some sort of support system going for you:
Reasons to move out of home
You may decide to leave home for many different reasons, including:
wishing to live independently
location difficulties – for example, the need to move closer to university
conflict with your parents
being asked to leave by your parents.
Issues to consider when moving out of home
It’s common to be a little unsure when you make a decision like leaving home. You may choose to move, but find that you face problems you didn’t anticipate, such as:
Unreadiness – you may find you are not quite ready to handle all the responsibilities.
Money worries – bills including rent, utilities like gas and electricity and the cost of groceries may catch you by surprise, especially if you are used to your parents providing for everything. Debt may become an issue.
Flatmate problems – issues such as paying bills on time, sharing housework equally, friends who never pay board, but stay anyway, and lifestyle incompatibilities (such as a non-drug-user flatting with a drug user) may result in hostilities and arguments.
Your parents may be worried
Think about how your parents may be feeling and talk with them if they are worried about you. Most parents want their children to be happy and independent, but they might be concerned about a lot of different things. For example:
They may worry that you are not ready.
They may be sad because they will miss you.
They may think you shouldn’t leave home until you are married or have bought a house.
They may be concerned about the people you have chosen to live with.
Reassure your parents that you will keep in touch and visit regularly. Try to leave on a positive note. Hopefully, they are happy about your plans and support your decision.
Tips for a successful move
Tips include:
Don’t make a rash decision – consider the situation carefully. Are you ready to live independently? Do you make enough money to support yourself? Are you moving out for the right reasons?
Draw up a realistic budget – don’t forget to include ‘hidden’ expenses such as the property’s security deposit or bond (usually four weeks’ rent), connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.
Communicate – avoid misunderstandings, hostilities and arguments by talking openly and respectfully about your concerns with flatmates and parents. Make sure you’re open to their point of view too – getting along is a two-way street.
Keep in touch – talk to your parents about regular home visits: for example, having Sunday night dinner together every week.
Work out acceptable behaviour – if your parents don’t like your flatmate(s), find out why. It is usually the behaviour rather than the person that causes offence (for example, swearing or smoking). Out of respect for your parents, ask your flatmate(s) to be on their best behaviour when your parents visit and do the same for them.
Ask for help – if things are becoming difficult, don’t be too proud to ask your parents for help. They have a lot of life experience.
If your family home does not provide support
Not everyone who leaves home can return home or ask their parents for help in times of trouble. If you have been thrown out of home or left home to escape abuse or conflict, you may be too young or unprepared to cope.
If you are a fostered child, you will have to leave the state-care system when you turn 18, but you may not be ready to make the sudden transition to independence.
If you need support, help is available from a range of community and government organisations. Assistance includes emergency accommodation and food vouchers. If you can’t call your parents or foster parents, call one of the associations below for information, advice and assistance.
Where to get help
Your doctor
Kids Helpline Tel. 1800 55 1800
Lifeline Tel. 13 11 44
Home Ground Services Tel. 1800 048 325
Relationships Australia Tel. 1300 364 277
Centrelink Crisis or Special Help Tel. 13 28 50
Tenants Union of Victoria Tel. (03) 9416 2577
Things to remember
Try to solve any problems before you leave home. Don’t leave because of a fight or other family difficulty if you can possibly avoid it.
Draw up a realistic budget that includes ‘hidden’ expenses, such as bond, connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.
Remember that you can get help from a range of community and government organizations.

summary: sometimes, after a bad case, all luke wants is to come home to you.
warnings: mentioning of tough case.
masterlist.
The entire plane ride home, Luke only has one thought. Well, technically, two. The first is the ache in his soul after finishing a tough case. Especially when it ends as badly as this one did. There’s a weight that settled on everyone’s shoulders, one they would carry for a while.
His second thought is you. How much he missed you, how eager he was to get home to you. The two of you were used to late night, early mornings and long distance. Although his job at the BAU was more stable than the Fugitive Taskforce, it still meant nights away from home. And right now all he wants is to be home. With you.

The walk up to the apartment was quiet, considering that it was close to 10pm, you didn't really expect otherwise. Luke should have been home a few hours ago as they returned from a case in New York this morning and he had been at the BAU doing some paperwork, at least that's what the text that you received said.
Roxy was laying by the couch when you got in, her head perked up at the sound of your keys. She came running over to you and you crouched to give her side a rub, “hi baby” you scratched behind her ear.
“Where is your dad ?” standing up, Roxy trailed behind you as you ventured further into the apartment. Luke was asleep on the couch, it looks like he came in and just fell asleep on the couch. You didn’t blame him, poor thing must be tired, they barely sleep when they’re on a case. Leaning down to give him a kiss on the cheek, he smelt odd. Not in a bad way but not necessarily in a good way either. It wasn't his cologne you were smelling but perfume and it wasn't yours. This was sweet and fruity, and strong, like whoever was wearing it had been pressed up against him long enough of it to transfer onto his clothing. Luke’s hand on your thigh startled you and broke your thought, he looked up at you as you were still hovering over him.
“Did you just get in? you asked, taking a step back. He nodded, rubbing his eyes and sitting up, “yeah, a hour ago or something like that”
“How much paperwork did you have to do?” you sat beside him.
“A lot, I didn’t finish all anyways”
“I like your perfume” you say, looking over at him. Luke leant down towards his shoulder, inhaling the sweet fruit-like scent that was all over him. He paused from a moment, practically hearing the gears turn in his head. “Oh yeah,” he chuckled, “Garica gave me a hug on the way out, said it was for Roxy since she didn’t get to come see her” he said, leaning back into the couch and nodding. Seems like he was trying to convince himself of his lie rather than convince you.
“I'm going to take a shower. Do you wanna grab something for dinner ?” you ask, standing up.
“Chinese ? I could run out and get it”
“Yeah, sounds good. Take Rox with you if you're gonna walk ?”
“Yeah, of course” He stood too, Luke gave you a quick peck on the lips and out the door he went with Roxy following right behind him. The moment the door shut, you headed to the room. Luke’s bag was on the bed, pulling the zip open, you dumped the contents of the bag into the bed.
What were you looking for? You had no fucking idea but you weren't gonna quit until you found what you were looking for.
Tumbling through his clothes, you occasionally picked up a shirt and smelt it to find the same scent you smelt on Luke a few moments ago. The whole thing felt wrong, you shouldn't be tumbling through your boyfriend’s stuff. He loved you and you knew that, maybe he was telling you the truth, maybe Penelope did just give him a hug. A phone chimed, pulling yours from your pocket, the screen was blank. The chime went off again and across the room, Luke’s phone sat on the dresser with the screen lit up. You took a few steps towards the dresser, pausing in the middle of the room, do you check his phone or do you not ?
The moral compass went out the window the moment you tumbled through his clothes. Fuck it, you wanted- needed to know who was texting him. Picking up the phone, you unlocked it. Someone named Lisa was texting him.
From Lisa: It was nice seeing you tonight, I missed you.
From Lisa: Let me know when you're free again, maybe we could get together.
Who the fuck was Lisa and why did she miss Luke ? And why did she see Luke tonight ?
The sound of barking caused you to turn towards the door. You tossed all of Luke’s clothes in the laundry basket before returning his phone to the spot on the dresser and you sprinted to the bathroom.
“Babe! I’m home!” Luke shouted from the doorway, “In the shower, give me a few!” you shouted back.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck do you confront him or do you leave him ?
Your mind went to the worst possible conclusion, Luke was cheating on you. Maybe he wasn't, maybe Lisa was a cousin or a friend from college. Decided to push all thoughts of Lisa from your mind, you took a quick shower before joining your boyfriend in the kitchen. You just wanted a normal night in.
--
From Luke: Hey baby, running late tonight. Got to finish this paper work, I'll call when I'm on my way home. I love you.
To Luke: Sounds good, I love you too.
The phone returned to its spot in your pocket, your chair spun to face your co-worker, Sarah. “Wanna grab dinner ? Luke’s working late and I’m starving”
“Yeah,” she smiled at you, “give me a few to finish this and I'm ready”
You nodded, spinning your chair back towards your desk. Luke’s message and the message from last night ran through your mind again.
“Running late tonight. Got to finish this paperwork”
“Let me know when you're free again, maybe we could get together.”
Was he meeting Lisa or was he really just working late? You trusted Luke, you knew he wouldn't be stupid enough to cheat, right ?
Sarah tapped your shoulder, “ready?” “Yeah, I was thinking of the Italian place on 43rd ?”
The two of you headed out, the streets were full of life and sound. People moving in every direction, some with others, some by themselves. Sarah walked into the restaurant first as you followed behind her. Seeing that she got in first, she sat in the first chair and you sat across from you. You were telling her about some files you had to go over for your boss but she didn’t seem to be listening to you, her focus was on something behind you.
“Earth to Sarah” you laughed, her focus coming back to you. “I’m sorry,” she gave you a small smile before her eyes drifted back to whatever she was looking at. “Sarah, what are you looking at?” you go to turn, she grabs your hand and your eyes are back on her.
“You said Luke was working late right ?” she asked, glancing behind you and back to you once again. You nodded, your brows furrowed, you could feel a line developing on your forehead.
“Sarah, what's going on?”
“Okay, I don’t want you to freak but I think Luke lied to you”
“What are you talking about ?”
“Isn't that him over there with another woman ?” she pointed to a woman in a green dress, who you could see clearly and a man who was wearing a black sweater. His back was towards you but even for behind you could tell it was Luke. One because you had bought him that sweater for Christmas and two his phone was sticking out his back pocket and you could see the picture of Roxy on his lock screen. Luke leaned over the table slightly to kiss the woman that sat across from him.
“Fuck” you mumbled. “What are you gonna do?” Sarah asks, “do you want me to dump a glass of water on him?” she offers, shaking the glass slightly. Her offer made you smile, “no but thank you” you smile. Walking through the restaurant to his table, you weren’t sure who this woman was or why he was here or why he had lied to you but you wanted to know.
“Hi,” you stuck your hand out towards the woman. “Um, hi?” she shook your hand, you glanced over at Luke and his face went pale. “I’m y/n, Luke’s girlfriend. You are ?”
“Lisa, Luke’s- Luke’s date” she looked over at Luke who was sitting there quietly, not a word came out of his mouth. “Let me guess, he didn’t mention he had a girlfriend huh” you chucked, she shook her head. “Smooth Alvez, real smooth. So much for being a ‘playa’ huh?” you laugh. “Y/n, wait-” Luke started as he stood, you turned on your heels and walked away. “Sarah, I'm gonna head out. I’m sorry” you give her an apologetic look as you rest a hand on her shoulder, her hand comes up and gives your hand a squeeze.
“Call me okay ?” she looked up at you
“Of course” you smiled and walked out.
Luke was making his way out of his restaurant when you got into a cab. Looking back, Luke stood there with his eyes fixed on the cab that you were in. It was around 7 so it was rush hour. You had maybe 20 minutes before Luke got home, if he was even coming home. That should be enough time to pack up your stuff. The drive was fairly quick, surprisingly and you sprinted up the stairs and into the apartment, putting the chain bolt on the door. Roxy rubbed up against your leg as you pulled your suitcases out from the closet.
“Hey baby,” you crouch down and scratch under her chin. “I’m sorry but I gotta go, I love you, you know that right ?” you told her, you knew she wouldn’t- couldn't answer you. You pressed a little kiss to the top of her head before tossing the suitcase on the bed. Roxy jumped up onto the bed as well, watching from beside the suitcase as you tossed everything from the drawers into the suitcase. Whatever you could grab was thrown in, fold or unfold- it didn’t matter right now. Hangers from the closet were scattered across the floor, you hopped over them on your way to the dresser. The makeup bag, your perfume bottles, the expensive ass lotion you bought that did absolutely nothing for you and the one framed picture of you and Roxy also got tossed on top of the clothes. That suitcase was zipped and set by the bedroom door, the other one gets opened on the floor, you pull all the shoes from the closet and throw them in, next stop was the bathroom, picking up anything you can recognize as yours and tossing it in.
You took one last look around, you didn’t really know what you were packing for, you didn’t even know where you were going. Were you about to uproot your entire life ? Probably, but was it worth it ? No fucking idea.
That seemed to be the theme of your life, you having no fucking idea what’s happening. You had always been a “go with the flow” type of gal.
The door rattled as Luke tried to push it open, the chain was hooked and he knew that. “Y/n! I know you’re in there! Open the door please!” he shouted from the other side. Debating on what you should do, you sat on the floor beside the opened suitcase. After what felt like an eternity, the chain snapped, you could hear the faint sound of the chain and then the loud thud which was the door hitting the wall. Luke must of kicked it in or did some stupid bodyslam to get it open.
“Where are you!?” he called as he walked through the apartment. His footsteps approached the room, he pushed the door open and took in the scene that was in front of him. Roxy was laying on the bed, the closet door was pushed open as was the door to the bathroom, there were hangers all over the floor and the bed, the drawers pulled out. The room was in a state of disarray.
“Y/n..” Luke looked down at you by the suitcase.
“What?” you spat, your voice filled with anger and hate. He couldn't blame you, he deserved it. He did the one thing he promised that he’d never do.
“It wasn't what it looked li- no it was. It was what it looked like. I was having dinner with another woman”
“Oh?” you scoffed, “your date, Lisa ? Yeah, she seems wonderful Luke.”
“I’m sor-” your laughter cut him off, “No you’re not. Don’t lie to me. Didn't you do enough of that already ?”
Luke stood there, not another word left his mouth nor did he move. He stood there watching as you got up. There was a safe in the closet, the two of you kept important things in there. Passports, legal documents, a couple thousand dollars in cash and Luke's gun when he was off duty. Opening it, you pick up your passport and some cash, what was he going to do, stop you after he cheated on you ? The gun rested on the top shelf, part of you wanted to go full crazy bitch on him but you knew it wasn't worth it. Life in jail over a cheating boyfriend ? Definitely not. Once again, you could feel Luke’s eyes burning into your back as you shoved the cash and passport into your purse. The suitcases get pulled into the living room, both Luke and Roxy follow behind you.
Once more, you bend down to give Roxy a kiss on the head and one last belly rub. “I’m sorry baby,” you whisper as you run your fingers through her fur. Roxy nuzzled into your side for a moment before trotting off to her bed in the corner. Luke looked over at you, “that’s it ? We're not gonna talk about it ?” he asks, his voice breaking for a moment.
“What's there to talk about ?” You question, looking back at him
“You didn’t even let me apologize”
“There’s nothing to apologize for. You didn’t accidentally cheat, you knew what you were doing.”
“Doesn't mean I’m not sorry y/n”
“I don't care Luke. I don’t- won’t tolerate that. What did I always tell you ? If you have feelings for someone else, tell me. Don’t lie or humiliate me and you did both.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Bye Luke.” you pull the door open and pull the suitcases out with you. Luke followed you into the hallway, he stood by the door. “Where are you going to go ?” he shouted to you, you were waiting for the elevators. “Doesn't matter, just away from you.” you shout back, you could see Luke’s heart shatter, you didn’t think it was possible but it was.
Once you got down, you got into a cab. You sat in the back as the driver put your luggage into the trunk. Luke’s words ringing in your head, “where are you going to go?” and that was the thing, you had no idea.
“Miss, where too?” the driver asked you, looking back at you through the rearview mirror, you paused before you gave him an answer. “The airport please.”
The whole drive you kept thinking about where you would go when you go there. Maybe on a girls trip, although it's just you or maybe you’d travel to all the places that Luke was too busy to go with you too. Your mind drifted back through the events of the night, leaving work with Sarah, seeing Luke in the restaurant, the panicked packing, the goodbye.
Oh fuck, Sarah.
To Sarah: Hey, I totally forgot to text you. I ended it with Luke, no surprise there. I’m headed to the airport right now, no idea where I'm gonna go but just thought I'd update you.
To Sarah: Sorry for ditching you at dinner tonight
From Sarah: Oh my god, no worries. I’m glad you're okay. Be safe and let me know where you decide to go!! Love you lots y/n!
You shoot her back a text with the promise of letting her know. Shortly after, you arrived at the airport, you stepped in and it’s like you were in a whole different world. Following the arrows to the check in desk, the woman asked to see your passport and your ticket stub.
“Oh I don't have one.”
“That’s alright!” she smiled, “where too ? I can find you the next available flight” she informed you.
“Um,” you paused, your eyes scanning the board with departing flights, “When’s your next flight to Los Angeles?”
“Flight leaves at 4am, it arrives at 8:30am”
“I’ll take it.”
----
Sunny Los Angeles. Home Sweet Home.
Well, not quite but home is wherever your family was. That’s exactly where you were headed. You found yourself on your brother’s front steps and knocking on his door. It just occurred to you that it’s 9:30 on Tuesday morning and he might be at work. You sat on the steps, your elbows on your knees and your chin resting on your hands.
The black truck drove down the street and pulled into the driveway. Your brother rounded the front and approached the steps. “Y/n?” he looked at you, you were a mess. Last night’s work clothes, your face all red and puffy from the crying and lack of sleep.
“Hey Eds” you sniffle, standing up and brushing the dust off your pants. “What are you doing here ?” he walked over to you, you ignored his question. Eddie was standing in front of you now. “Where's my baby ?” your voice wavered over a moment, your hand coming up to shield the sun from your eyes.
“He’s at school y/n, what's wrong hermana?”
“Oh, nothing” you sniffled, the tears welling up in your eyes.
“Y/n,” Eddie looked at you, he was only older than you by a year but he acted like he was much older. No one ever hurt you without getting a “piece of him” as he used to say. “Oh Eddie” you mumbled, looking down at the ground, Eddie pulled you into a hug. He held you as you cried, he didn’t say anything nor did he ask why you were crying.
He just stood there with you.
“C’mon, let's go inside.” Eddie unlocked the door, he let you go in and then brought in your luggage. “Can I take a shower?” you mumble as you kick off your shoes by the door. “Yeah make yourself at home, we’ll talk after okay ?” Eddie gave your shoulder a squeeze before sitting on the couch. You had visited Eddie in LA once before, after Shannon passed. You came down to support him but mostly to run interference between him and your parents as they brought up the idea of Chris moving back in with them. You were in the shower for a while, when you returned to the living room, you were in one of Eddie’s t-shirts and a pair of sweatpants you found in his room.
“Feeling better ?” he patted the spot beside him, walking over and sitting beside him, you nodded. “Yeah, thank you.” Eddie smiled at you, he didn’t ask you what was going on or why you showed up on his doorstep with no call or text on a Tuesday in the middle of the year. No one had passed, at least not that he knew of so that couldn't be why you were here. Eddie racked his brain for an answer for the unexpected visit, not that he minded but he was worried. It wasn't like you to drop everything. He looked over at you, you smiled at the commercial that was playing on the screen.
Wait, she was seeing someone right ? What was his name again ? Liam ? Lionel ? No, that’s not right. Lucas ?
“I ended things with Luke.” you broke the silence, you shifted sideways to face your brother.
Luke! That was his name.
“How come ?” Eddie asked you, his attention on you.
“He cheated.”
“Do you want me to kill him ? We can catch the next flight if you want. Buck can watch Chris, it’ll be a quick thing” Eddie says in all seriousness, you shook your head. “As much as I appreciate it, it’s fine.” you smile at him.
“Was she hot at least ?” you rolled your eyes at his question and didn't answer him. “Shut up Eddie. What time is Chris done school ? I miss him”
“He's off at 3,” you glanced at the clock, it was only 1:30. “Okay, what can we do for the next 1 and a half hours ?”
“Tequila truths ? But only for a little while. I have to drive.” Eddie suggested, you head perked up at the mention of the game. “Oh yeah, go get the bottle.”
Tequila truths was a little game you and Eddie came up with when you were in high school. The premise of the game was basically 2 lies and a truth, if you guessed the truth right then the person who turn it was had to take a shot and if you guessed wrong, you had to take a shot.
Eddie returned with a bottle of Don Julio, “when did you grow up and start buying the good stuff ?” taking the bottle from him, opening it and taking a starter shot. Eddie sat across from you and took the bottle back, ”when I grew up and realized how difficult life was, I thought why not treat myself?” he laughed and also took a shot.
“okay I'll start. 1. I lied to mom and dad and told them I was going to Ella’s house when I actually went to Vegas for the weekend. 2. I got arrested for possession of a controlled substance or 3. I accidentally shot the wall in Luke’s apartment and we lose the security deposit”
Your brother gave you the weirdest look, his brows furrowed. You had always lived an interesting life. “Uh, 1 is the truth.” he guessed. “Nope, 3. Take a shot” you chuckled, Eddie tipped the bottle back, his face twisting into a sour expression at the taste. “Wait, where did you even get a gun to shoot the wall ?” he asked, “it’s Luke’s. It was supposed to be in the safe but it wasn't”
“Why did he have a gun ?” you could hear the concern in Eddie’s voice. “He’s an FBI agent. It's fine”
“Oh”
“Yeah, he was in the army too, a ranger actually. You would have liked him”
Eddie nodded, he could sense the sadness setting in again, he spoke up before you could get wrapped up in your thoughts again. “Okay my turn. 1. I never did my physical for basic training because I was sick and they never asked me again so I never did it. 2. I stole a motorcycle in high school or 3. I also lied to mom and dad, saying that I was staying with you after i was discharged but I was in Hawaii with some friends for a week.”
“2 is the lie, dad asked me where you got it and I had to lie for you” you smacked his side making him laugh. “This isn't fair, I have to take another one?” he groaned
“Fine you baby, I'll take it for you. Only because you have to drive to get Chris.” Eddie handed you the bottle. The two of you played a few more rounds, you had a good buzz going by time 2:30 rolled around.
“I gotta leave to get Chris soon, are you going with me?”
“Yeah!” you stood up a little too quickly and almost toppled over, Eddie’s reflexes kicked in and his hand grabbed your side before you fell over. “Yeah maybe have some coffee and go brush your teeth, you smell like a frat boy” he pushed you towards the hallway, “haha, okay whatever” making your way over to the bathroom and brushing your teeth. When you returned to the living room, Eddie had a mug with coffee waiting for you. He waited for you to finish drinking it before leaving together.
Chris walked out with his class, you watched from beside Eddie. Chris noticed his father first, waving to him from beside his classmates. “Dad!” Chris smiled at his father as Eddie made his way over. “Hey buddy!” Eddie gave Chris a hug, they were having a conversation as they were walking back your way.
“Auntie y/n?” Chris stood beside his father, looking at you.
“Hi baby!” you walked over to him, Chris leaned into your side. “Hi!” he looked up at you. “How was school kiddo ?”
“Good!” you and Chris totally ditched Eddie, it wasn't until the two of you got to the truck that you realized Eddie was still by the school, talking to a woman.
“Hey bud?”
“Yeah?”
“Who’s that lady with your dad?”
“My teacher”
You hummed and helped Chris into the truck, the two of you were just chatting. Chris was telling you about his class and about the fire station where Eddie worked. He mentioned a person named Buck quite a bit, he even referred to them as “my Buck” which was adorable. You just assumed it was one of Eddie’s friends that they were close with. Eddie finally finished his conversation and got in the truck. “Who’s that?” you look over at your brother, he already knows why you’re asking him. “Shut up. It's Chris’s teacher, don't be weird.” Eddie tells you while giving you a warning look.
“Auntie?” Chris calls for you from the backseat, you turn to look at the boy in the back.
“What’s up ?”
“How long are you going to stay with us ?”
“I won’t be leaving anytime soon if that’s what you're wondering”
“Oh great” Eddie mumbled, you shot him a glare before giving his shoulder a little shove which earned you a giggle from Chris.
----
Eddie was in Chris’s bedroom with him, they were trying to set up some video game thing he had. You didn’t want any part in Eddie and his grumbling while fixing it so you were in the kitchen making dinner for them. The doorbell rang while you were chopping the onions, you put the knife down and walked the entryway.
A tall, blond man stood at the door. He was wearing a burgundy shirt and a pair of jeans. You took a moment to really look him over, blonde hair, blue eyes, undeniably built like greek god under those clothes, which you could already tell from his broad shoulders and his stance.
You were leaning on the door when his voice broke your thoughts. “Hi, who are you ?” he asked you.
“I could ask you the same thing.”
“I’m Buck, Eddie’s friend from work”
Your conversation with Chris ringing in your head, you nodded. “Chris’s Buck, right ? Nice to put a face with the name.” you stepped back from the door, “Come in, shut the door behind you. Oh shoes off please” you tell him before returning to your spot in the kitchen. Buck followed your instructions and then your steps to the kitchen.
“Still haven't told me your name” he leaned against the counter, watching you from his spot
“I’m y/n, Eddie’s in Chris’s room if you want to go see them” you tell him, your eyes now on the pot in front of you.
There’s some shuffling behind you and his footsteps start becoming distant but then, they return. Glancing over your shoulder, Buck stood by the doorway.
“That’s my shirt by the way”
Looking down, you now realize the shirt read PennU on the front and Eddie most definitely did not go to the University of Pennsylvania.
“You went to Penn U?”

It was Christmas Eve and the 3 of you sat on the couch watching how the grinch stole Christmas. Emily and Christopher had spent the day hanging out and playing video games while you put up last minute decorations and did some gift wrapping. Christmas was always super small for the two of you, it usually consisted of you buying gifts for Emily and then tv in your pjs all day but since Eddie and Chris came into your lives this year, you decided it was time to go all out.
“What do you two want for dinner?” leaning back into the couch as you paused the movie.
“Pizza”
“Burgers”
“How about both ?”
A loud yes and the two of them getting off the couch to go get their shoes. Your phone buzzed as you tumbled through your bag for your car keys. Pulling it out of your pocket, Eddie’s name popped up on the screen.
From Eddie: What are you guys up to ?
To Eddie: Going out for pizza and burgers
From Eddie: Did you starve them today ? Why both ?
To Eddie: Haha very funny Diaz, they’re growing children
From Eddie: Swing by the station ? I miss you guys
To Eddie: We’ll see, I’ll message you if we’re coming by
From Eddie: Bobby’s making dinner but sounds good
“Kiddos! Can we take a rain check on burgers and pizza ? Eddie just texted and Bobby’s making dinner at the station. Maybe we should stop by ?”
The two kids nodded, “can we take the cheesecake too ?” Emily asked you, her and Christopher were sitting on the bench by the front door. You headed back to the fridge to grab the cake before heading out.
–
The drive wasn’t very long, it was only 15 minutes from your place to the station. Helping the kids out, they went into the station a few seconds before you, you had to get the cheesecake from the car. When you got in, Buck was being smothered with hugs from the kids. “Hey pretty boy” you smiled at him, the nickname making him laugh, he pulled you in for a hug. “Hey yourself, I haven’t seen you in forever”
“You saw me last week Buck”
“Yeah but that’s too long, who’s supposed to make me dinner if Bobby doesn’t cook ? Plus Eddie won’t share whatever you pack for him” he pouted at you, his arm over your shoulder.
“Oh you poor baby, I’ll make sure you make double next time. One for him and one for you” you chuckled, Buck smiled. Chim and Hen had already come down and helped the kids up the stairs and to the game machine. “This place is so cool!” Emily said to Christopher, Christoper smiled at her, “I know!”
“Hey, I thought you said you’d text if you were coming ?” Eddie walked over, giving you a hug. “Surprise ?” hugging him back and chuckling, he kissed your cheek. “Did they say hi to you ?” the two of you looked over at the kids who were very into the game they were currently playing. “No,” he laughed, “they ran off. I’m gonna go say hi, make yourself comfortable” Eddie’s hand squeezed your waist softly before letting go.
Turning to the kitchen, you were greeted by Bobby who was stirring something in a pot. “Is that cheesecake ?” he looks over at the box in your hand, you nodded. “A little something for you guys. Chris and Em helped me make it,” you glanced over at the kids before whispering, “if there’s any eggshells, just bypass that ?” Bobby nodded with a smile. “I’m sure it’s great.”
“What can I help with ?” you washed your hands and took a look around.
“You’re a guest don’t worry about that” he told you, you shook your head, “Oh please, let me help. It’s a lot”
“Fine, but only because you insist. The carrots and celery need to be chopped and someone needs to let the table” he said, his attention still on the pot in front of him.
“I got the veggies. Eddie! Buck!” the two men found their way over to you in a matter of seconds. “Set the table please ?” smiling sweetly at them, Buck glanced over at Eddie.
“Question Buck?” you glare at him,
He shakes his head, “Oh no, I’m fine”
“Why are you two still standing here ? Go set the table” you nod towards the table, the two men walk away. You can still hear them bickering as they set the table.
“Is she always that bossy ?” Buck asks him, Eddie nods. “It’s hot though” Eddie replies and Buck agrees with him earning a smack to the arm. “Dude! c’mon that’s my girlfriend” Eddie groans making Buck laugh, “if only I had gone to pick up Chris that day” he jokes, Eddie walks away leaving Buck at the table.
“You should come around more often. They stopped listening to me months ago” Bobby tells you, “they’re a handful. I don’t know how you do it” you laugh, taking over at the stove.
–
After dinner, Eddie disappears with Chris and Emily for a few minutes only to come back with a suspicious look on all 3 of them. “What’s up with you ?” taking a seat on the arm rest of the chair Eddie was sitting in, his arm comes up and wraps around your waist. “Nothing, just a little conversation” he smiles at you, your arm around his shoulder now.
“You’re losing!” your daughter giggles, Chim groans, “I’m not losing to children!” “You’re losing!” Chris laughs this time. You glance down at Eddie who has a smile on his face.
Your heart felt like it grew 10 times its size when you saw Eddie’s reaction to them.
“C’mon!” Buck shouts from the other end of the kitchen, he’s holding a mistletoe above Bobby and Athena.
