Just a pal looking for some shopping tips. I'm new so any advice is more than welcome.

Im so mad at Sephora oh my god. I was looking. Honest to god looking and going to actually BUY something. But then they started cs'ing me to death. Like I was stealing. I had a bag from the shopping center a street over. You can take a free trolley to get to where Sephora is. One bitch was like: “oh I didn’t know we had X store in the mall” Me: “We don’t. It’s at -. ” I know what she’s insinuating. I’ve worked retail for 5+ years. Literally 5 seconds later another bitch shoved a shopper in my hands for the 2 foundations I was holding bc I honest to god didn’t know which one I wanted. 3 minutes later and I’m still being followed. 

This might not sound bad but at that moment I knew they were looking at me like I was the scum of the earth

Mind you, I’ve done nothing sus except having one bag from another store and nots uncommon to see that brands bag here bc people take the trolley all the time. After this, I’ve had it. I’ve never lifted from this Sephora. I’ve done nothing to be treated like this.I buy from this Sephora. I DON’T LIFT IN THIS AREA BC I FREQUENT IT. 

Those bitches messed with the wrong mother fucker.

 I fucking asked for the manager. I explain what’s happening and how I feel insulted blah blah. 

Meanwhile bitch 1 and 2 are squirming and whispering to the manager that I took shit. Jokes on them bc everything I had at that moment was from another store and had receipts. The manager asks to look in my bag.  So ever sweetly I tell the manager that he can search my bags. Oh sweet baby Jesus. Like, I know I’m not supposed to let them look but in this moment my righteous anger was so great. 

I had tampons, my wallet and phone and some other shit. Nothing stolen, No hooks. No magnets. Nothing. The other bags just had clothes that were accounted for on receipts. 

The manager was pissed and I’m pretty sure those bitches are in huge trouble. I got a 30% off coupon and the birthday gift as a “We’re sorry we thought you were a thief!!!” thing. 

So they’re all busy in the back and the employees are mortified (thank god) and you know what? I’m a bitch. So in retaliation I took some Sugar lip treatment and some bad blood lipstick.

And then I left a complaint on the Sephora website.

Sephora has just been hella rude lately. I went in with my friend to one (I have lifted here once like three weeks ago, but I looked different) and they basically shoved a basket in my hand and when I asked about the vice reloaded pallet one lady was a massive bitch. I didn’t get a manager but I did complain on the website. Ps- vice reloaded is only at Ulta Pps- let me know how you like the eyeliner I am loving it!

This has nothing to do with lifting but when I was younger and new to makeup I went to $ephora, hoping to get some help from what I had heard was a great makeup store. When I went all of the attendants were extremely passive aggressive and rude and brushed off all of my questions or requests for help. I was a young teen and I obviously didn't know what I was doing but I was still a paying customer so I thought that should have warranted me at least some of their time. But I think that if you're not a makeup pro, $ephora has no interest in helping you and I have never returned since then.

i recommend h+m, clàires, and nèw lôok!!H+m tends to have chill n inattentive SAs, often does not tag clothes, and it’s fairly easy to get into the fitting rooms without ur items countedClàires very rarely has rfids on their items and has tall displays to conceal behind. i’ve never been bothered by an SA thereNèw lôok is slightly more difficult, but still okay for beginners. depending on the store, they sometimes let u into the fitting rooms without counting, and have large clothing racks to conceal behind. they’ve never checked my items for double hanging, although they do tag everything. i’ve never been approached by an SAGood luck and happy lîfting!!✨❤️❤️

The most depressing thing was looking over at all the balloons and cake from when she had her 16th birthday :-( my 17th wasn’t even that depressing. I was so glad to bring her these things and hug her. She hasn’t spoken to me for 2 years except for really basic necessary interactions but she never really told me why she was mad at me.

I never go in cvs so idk about that, but I’ve seen elf stuff at Walmart and target.

I would not ever advise anyone to go lift at W@lmart or T@rget over CV$.  Look for blind spots and conceal in them.  Just be calm and you can do it.

Alright, so I know a lot of lifters seem to have a kind of…is dedication the right word? to fucking up makeup/beauty companies that test on animals. I know there’s also a TON of vegan/vegetarian lifters and idk if anyone’s seen this before, but this actually looks awesome.

THERE IS SO MUCH USEFUL INFO ON THIS SITE. INCLUDING FAKE CRUELTY FREE BRANDS.

So I mean, if you’re going to choose to buy cruelty free and vegan makeup, this is a super useful tool to checking if it’s ACTUALLY cruelty free (side eyes Mac).

Practicing Sleight Of Hand

I practiced this way to lift over $2k of smaller items from places like Urban Outfitters, Chapters, Walmart, Sephora, and bigger department stores.

*!!* DISCLAIMER*!!* Please remember I am in a SMALLER CITY in CANADA. I know my LP situation and have connections for the local Walmart LP and friends working at Sephora. I did my research before trying this out. Make sure to hone your own skills and don’t take my experience as the be-all-end-all. *!!*END DISCLAIMER.*!!*

Stand in front of a mirror with 2 small objects like a pen and pencil in which ever hand you choose to use for sleight. Have another larger object like your phone or a stick of anti-perspirant in the other. Watch you’re hand gestures.

What your aiming for is to be able to turn the side of your body with the hand that is doing the concealing away from the mirror- treating the mirror like it’s a camera- and examine yourself concealing one of the smaller items. Make bigger, dramatic movements with the hand holding the bigger item, learn to line up the smaller items side by side so that it’s not completely obvious that you went from holding 2 items to 1. Once you can fool your own eyes, you can either start trying at an easier store or (what I did) start practicing with someone else around. When they start asking “where did the ____ go?” after you’ve concealed is when you know that you’ve gotten better at concealing.

i feel like bc i’m still new to lifting i am overly cautious of everything, and i’m really grateful. like i have no idea what cameras are real and fake, whether they’re watched and by who. so i assume all are being watched by LP. i never know if an SA is sus so i think they are at all times. i know nothing about tags to if it’s more than a barcode i take it off, regardless of whether the store has towers. i don’t know what magnet to get so i don’t have one, meaning that if i get caught there would be less harsh consequences i’m not skilled at floor concealing so i’m extra careful when i do, and ensure i’m alone in a blind spot, and leave straight after

Always stay cautious!!! No matter how good or skilled you think you are, staying cautious is what keeps you safe! I’ve only been knowingly sussed once in about 8 months but I don’t let that give me confidence (especially bc it doesn’t change my chances of getting caught). In fact, the reason I’ve only been sussed once is because I keep myself scared. Assume every camera is real, every person is lp, and every item is tagged. It’s how you stay safe.

A beginners guide to lifting the moon

• never lift with a friend unless they are your very very trusted partner in crime. (still wouldn’t recommend it)

• never lift from mom and pops because that’s just cruel

• gtfo if you feel at all that you’re being sussed. “get a phone call”

• never conceal on camera

• never conceal near the nice old lady you think is paying no attention to you. imagine everyone is an lp

• never leave ANY evidence behind including hangers

• never hit up the same location more than once a month

• wear disguises

• conceal clothing in your bag not theirs they are watching what you come in and out of dressing rooms with

• rob the shit out of those slave labor, animal testing fuckers

I’ve heard some people say that you can wedge two forks together to try to take the tag off. Look it up, it’s said to work with smaller tags like those. I’ve seen some people on here claim to do it.

It’s definitely designed to be taken off with a magnet. But OP doesn’t have one. I would also recommend trying to cut through the pin with a wire cutter, as I’ve seen that be successful. But honestly? Doing it in store? Very timely and there’s no guarantee it will work.

We all do recommend you get a magnet, I’m sure. I do at least.

I’ve heard that Home Depot actually doesn’t sell the right kind, but neodymium magnets definitely work on a tag that small.

The super magnets from H0me Dep0t work on pencil tags just fine.  Get the ones that are about 3/4″ round, get enough to make 2 stacks of about 9 each.  They have worked for every kind of tag that needed a magnet that I have encountered.  They also will open those little tags on peg hooks that hold the merchandise on it.

These are the magnets that I use (specifically the ones that come in the 3 pack).  I have only found them at H0me Dep0t in the aisle with all the nuts and bolts.  Get you about 6 packs of them (lift them of course) then arrange them so you have 2 stacks of 9 each.  They have worked great for me and yet are small enough for me to keep in my pocket.

Just some reminders and tips to all my fellow lifters

If you feel uncomfortable or nervous, stop what you’re doing. Even if it doesn’t mean someone has sussed you out, it’s still never a good idea to lift while anxious

If you’re lifting makeup for your own personal use and you want something high-end, just lift small. I don’t mean keep your lift light, I mean only conceal small items. Leave the big palettes, those are fads and they’re cool looking but you don’t need them and once they’re in your bathroom no one else gonna see them anyway. Just lift the individual eyeshadow colors, or the individual bronzers/foundations. Since they’re smaller they’re easier to conceal, which means less anxiety for you and more makeup without the worry of peeling off RFID tags.

If you feel you must visit the same mall several times in one week (as I did because school hasn’t started yet and I’m hella bored), change up your look. Go feminine one day, lazy college student another, butch/tomboy another. Wear glasses one day, contacts the next, or those fake lenses if you don’t need a prescription. Try not to hit up the same stores if possible, and if so make sure the SA that helped you out before isn’t there again today. Try to go at a different time of day.

Make a list of what you want. Try to only lift items on this list. It can keep you from getting carried away, getting careless, or even getting addicted.

Try to only lift things you need. If you need a new dress, shirt, or jeans, do so. Only lift body scrubs or makeup when you’re running low. If you’re running out of closet space, collect the things you don’t wear anymore, donate them to Goodwill, then go out and lift some new cute stuff as a replacement, but don’t lift more than you got rid of. This keeps you from hoarding and from lifting “just for the thrill/heck of it”, and also keeps people from getting suspicious of why you have so many cute clothes, or so much extra makeup.

Now go out and have a lovely lift, babies 😊✨🍰

I was so mad at myself for not just concealing on the floor - I just happen to be really bad at that and was hoping they wouldn’t look in my tote or count. Well against my better judgment I detagged and concealed them anyway because I really really like gold and I wanted them. I concealed on person - not an easy feat, as they were crammed in my waistband making it hard to walk naturally. I went into H@IIm@rk afterwards and got a teddy bear for my baby (not shown - can’t find it now :/) but soon after I got worried the SA would notice the sandals were gone and I didn’t buy them, so I left the mall quickly.

I beeped because the lightbulb was tagged and I was so disappointed in myself. I played it cool, partly because the towers don’t even make a very alarming sound, and I didn’t realize I beeped until the guy said something.
